Chapter 375 Let Riley Off the Hook Again
Catherine had barely left when there was a knock at the door. Mia stormed in, looking seriously ticked off.
"What's up? Who got under your skin?" Hollis asked, confused by her expression.
Mia plopped down on the bed, grabbed an apple, and started peeling it angrily. "It's Dalton and my grandpa!"
Seeing her so distracted, Hollis quickly took the apple and peeler from her and asked patiently, "What did they do to you?"
"They found out I told Barry not to supply Riley with herbs!" Mia looked at Hollis on the hospital bed with a hint of grievance.
It was Hollis who had given Mia the idea in the first place. If it weren't for Hollis's heads-up, Mia wouldn't have known about Catherine targeting Riley. Since both of them couldn't stand Riley, Hollis suggested Mia follow the Wilder Group's lead and cut off Riley's herb supply. It was supposed to be a win-win; a little payback and a stronger bond between the Benedict Group and the Wilder Group.
Mia hadn't thought much of it at the time, trusting Hollis's advice. Now that she was getting chewed out, her first instinct was to run to Hollis and vent.
A flicker of disdain crossed Hollis's face. She hadn't expected Mia to botch such a simple task, but she still had to play the supportive friend. "And then? Did they give you a hard time?" she asked softly.
Mia nodded angrily, "They said I was ruining the Benedict family's reputation and banned me from getting involved in the Benedict Group's business!"
Desperate, Mia grabbed Hollis's uninjured hand. "Hollis, you know I didn't do anything wrong. Please talk to Dalton and my grandpa for me!"
She felt she hadn't done anything wrong, yet her influence in the Benedict Group was stripped away. Mia thought it was totally unfair.
A hint of impatience flashed across Hollis's face, but she discreetly shook off Mia's hand and tried to comfort her, "Don't worry. It's normal for your grandpa and Dalton to stick up for Riley. After all, Riley did cure your grandpa's illness, and Dalton has always been on her side."
Mia's expression shifted, "So, are we just gonna let Riley off the hook again?"
Hollis's face darkened a bit, "Has the Benedict Group started supplying herbs to Riley again?"
Mia nodded grimly. According to Dalton and Daniel, they were supposed to supply Riley with herbs as agreed. The thought of Riley not getting a lesson, while she ended up being reprimanded, made Mia feel quite annoyed.
Hollis almost couldn't catch her breath. If that were the case, all of Catherine's efforts would be for nothing! She had hinted at Mia to act to prevent the Benedict Group from intervening, but she hadn't expected Mia to be so useless!
After a while without a response from Hollis, Mia didn't find it odd and continued to complain, "I really don't get what's so great about Riley. All she did was treat my grandpa's illness, and now both my grandpa and Dalton are on her side. Even my own family doesn't trust me anymore. Everything I did was clearly for the good of the Benedict Group!"
Hollis felt a wave of irritation but only responded perfunctorily, "They'll realize you're right eventually."
Although Mia was reprimanded, receiving Hollis's approval made her more confident in her actions. However, she still felt a tinge of regret. "It's a pity we let her off the hook again!"
Hollis's face was full of coldness. She replied coldly, "Not necessarily!"
