Chapter 204 Just a Misunderstanding
After sitting in the living room for a bit, Donovan called out, "Olivia, take Finley to dinner."
Finley had been quietly hanging out in her room, mulling over what her grandma had said and daydreaming about Riley becoming her mom. She was super excited.
During dinner, Finley asked, "Daddy, are you gonna marry Riley?"
She looked at her dad with hopeful eyes.
Since Finley came back, this was the first time she had said something so long in one go.
Donovan was momentarily taken aback before he realized Finley's question.Thinking about how much the little one liked Riley, he felt a weird sensation in his chest. "Do you like her a lot?"
Finley nodded eagerly.
She liked the pretty lady the most!
Seeing Finley's excited face when she mentioned Riley, Donovan frowned a bit. "What do you like about her?"
Honestly, Finley hadn't known Riley for long, but she was super attached to her, even more than to him.
Donovan just assumed it was the natural bond between mother and daughter.
Finley hadn't really thought about it before. She tilted her head and pondered for a bit.
After a moment, she counted on her fingers and answered earnestly, "Riley is pretty and gentle. Plus, she cooks well and treats me nicely."
Donovan asked with a complicated look, "But Riley also has two little brothers. Do you want them to come live with us too?"
The existence of those two kids remains a thorn in Donovan's heart to this day.
Even though those kids were well-behaved and he liked them, the thought of their dad callously abandoning their mom left him feeling uncomfortable.
But Finley, with her innocent face and bright eyes, said, "The brothers are really nice to me, and I like them a lot too!"
Finley still remembered her question and looked at her dad with anticipation. "So, will you marry Riley? I want Riley to be my mommy!"
Otherwise, why would her daddy ask her so many questions about Riley?
Thinking of this, Finley got even more excited, and convinced that Riley would definitely become her mommy!
But why wasn't him saying anything?
Finley was full of confusion, and her excitement started to fade. She cautiously urged, "Daddy?"
Donovan snapped out of it, his eyes darkening a bit, and he avoided the little one's hopeful gaze. "No."
At least, not for now.
Finley frowned, not happy with that answer, thinking about what her grandma had said earlier. "But Grandma said..."
'That Daddy wanted to marry Riley' left unsaid, Donovan cut her off in a deep voice.
"It was just a misunderstanding." Donovan didn't want to keep talking about it and urged, "Let's eat and go to bed early."
Finley had been so excited earlier, thinking that her daddy would let Riley be her mommy.
Upon hearing his father's response, she lowered her head in disappointment and lost her appetite. She barely finished her food, then jumped off the chair and went back to her room without a word.
Seeing Finley's dejected back, Donovan frowned but didn't say anything more.
