Chapter 367 Can't Find an Opportunity

Daniel's face was just as grim. The Benedict Group had made promises to Riley because of him, and now they were dropping the ball. It was downright embarrassing for him. Plus, Riley had saved his life; he couldn't just let this slide!

"We need to get to the bottom of this, and fast! Who's playing both sides here?" Daniel's voice was full of anger.

Seeing Daniel so worked up, Riley tried to calm him down. "Daniel, I know this isn't your intention, so I'm not blaming you. I just want to figure out what's going on."

Daniel took a few deep breaths and looked at Riley with determination. "Even if they don't care, I'll make sure you get an explanation! I'm still here, and I want to see who dares to ignore me like this!"

Riley nodded quickly. She almost mentioned the Wilder Group but held back. It seemed like the Wilder family hadn't told the Benedict family, or at least Dalton and Daniel didn't know. If she brought it up now, they might reconsider because of the Wilder family. Luckily, she had been careful when she first mentioned the issue, and neither Dalton nor Daniel had pushed for more details.

Because of all this, lunch was pretty awkward. After they ate, Riley didn't stick around and headed back to the research institute.

Deacon had just come out of the lab area and hurried over when he saw her. "How did it go? What did the Benedict family say?" he asked anxiously.

Riley looked more relaxed as she replied, "There seems to be some misunderstanding. Mr. Benedict said he'd look into it. Let's wait and see. The Benedict Group has the herbs we need. Once this is sorted out, they'll start supplying us again."

Deacon was still a bit skeptical. "Investigations take time. Aren't you worried this is just an excuse?"

Riley frowned slightly, sounding a bit helpless. "What other choice do we have? It's too late to find other suppliers in other cities. We have to hope the Benedict Group comes through. Besides, even if Dalton is stalling, at least Daniel is reliable."

Hearing this, Deacon sighed in relief. "If it's just a misunderstanding, that's good. If even the Benedict Group is being pressured, no supplier in H City will work with us."

With the Benedict family's assurance, they were a bit less anxious. Riley went straight to her office. After closing the door, her expression turned serious.

Catherine was determined to make her leave H City, but she hadn't considered that Riley was here for the research institute. There was no way Riley would let the institute fall apart and then just leave.

Now that the supply issue seemed resolved, Riley wondered what Catherine's next move would be. Plus, Catherine had blocked her number, so she couldn't even negotiate if she wanted to.

Just as Riley was feeling a headache coming on, Chandler called. Riley quickly adjusted her mood and answered.

"Riley, how are things going back home?" Chandler asked with a smile. "I'm waiting for you to come back; I've already got a project lined up for you."

In his view, the research institute was thriving under Riley's leadership, so the transition shouldn't be too tough.

Riley felt a pang of guilt. She apologized, "I'm sorry, Chandler. There have been some unexpected issues at the institute. I can't come back just yet."

Chandler frowned. "Do you need my help?"

Riley shook her head. "No, I'll handle it. Once I've sorted everything out, I'll contact you."

Chandler knew Riley well. Seeing her insist, he didn't push further. After expressing his concern briefly, he ended the call.
