Chapter 154 Completely Giving Up on Him
One afternoon, in a cozy coffee nook, Hollis and Mia engaged in animated conversation over steaming cups of coffee. As their exchange unfolded, the discourse veered towards the upcoming event of Daniel's birthday celebration.
"Hollis, you're coming to my grandpa's birthday party, right?" Mia queried with a discernible intention lacing her words.
Hollis, privy to the close familial ties between the Benedict and Wilder clans, nodded in affirmation before inquiring, "Yes, I'll be there. Why do you ask?"
With an affectionate glint in her eye, Mia probed further, "So... Donovan is going with you too, right? The two of you are practically H City's power couple."
At Mia's mention of Donovan, a fleeting uncertainty crossed Hollis's features. She knew Donovan would be present, but she wasn't quite sure if he would be her date.
After all, over the years, although Donovan hadn't broken off the engagement, he hadn't been very close to her either.
Mia, unaware of Hollis's concerns, continued, "You two must attend together. That way, some people will know their place!"
Because of Riley's cold attitude last time, Mia had grown increasingly disgusted with her. This time, she invited Hollis out mainly to talk about this.
Wasn't Riley just relying on Donovan's protection? Mia wanted Riley to see who the woman standing next to Donovan really was.
Hollis naturally knew who Mia was referring to.
Thinking about the dynamics between Donovan and Riley, Hollis relented, "Given our history, it makes sense for Donovan and I to attend together."
Mia was elated and said, "That's great! You have no idea how arrogant Riley has been lately. She doesn't know her place. When you and Donovan show up, Riley's face will definitely look awful."
Hollis was kinda pumped for it. Ever since Riley came back to the States, Hollis hadn't caught a break. This was Hollis' chance to get Riley to drop Donovan like a hot potato.
They wrapped up their coffee, did some shopping, then split up. Back at home, with the birthday bash on her mind, Hollis felt a throbbing headache creeping in.
She'd promised Mia she'd show up with Donovan, but getting him on board was still up in the air. After mulling it over, Hollis dialed Catherine.
"What's wrong?" Catherine's voice came through as soon as the call connected.
Hollis mustered up her emotions and said sheepishly, "Auntie, Benedict's birthday blast is around the corner. Donovan will be attending, right?"
Catherine assured her, "For sure he is."
Remembering the tension lately, Catherine added with sincerity, "You need to make it right with him. I'll drop a good word for you too. This back-and-forth ain't cutting it for you two."
Hollis nodded quickly. "Yeah, I see that too. But Donovan's been ghosting me. I'm worried he won't even want to see me at the party."
Catherine hadn't thought about that angle. After a beat, she said, "He won't. Get ready. I'll have him swing by on the day of the bash, so you can attend together."
Hollis got hyped up at the thought, though she tried to play it cool. "Got it, I'll get things set."
Catherine tossed a few more tips her way before ending the call. After the call, Hollis rocked a satisfied grin.
She hadn't seen the fix coming so easily. She couldn't wait to see Riley's face when she and Donovan hit the party together!
