Chapter 166 You Are Really Amazing
The car rolled to a stop at the villa's entrance, and Paxton hurried to open the door, his relief palpable as he watched Donovan and Riley vanish inside before sighing deeply.
It seemed like tension always accompanied Donovan and Riley whenever they were together, Paxton mused.
"Mama, you're home!" Three eager faces greeted Riley as she stepped in, their sweet smiles melting away any residue of stress.
Decked out differently than usual, Riley garnered compliments from her little ones. Winston chirped, "Mom, you look so pretty today!"
Her spirits buoyed by their warmth, Riley beamed at Winston, "Thank you, sweetheart."
Before Landon could speak, another figure entered, causing Landon's initial grin to falter slightly. Maintaining polite reserve, he greeted, "Hello, Uncle Donovan."
Following Landon's lead, Winston finally noticed Donovan's presence and admirably greeted him. Donovan acknowledged them with a slight nod, his focus inevitably drawn back to Riley.
The kids caught on to the scent of alcohol, their concern evident. "Mom, did you have a drink? Are you okay?" they inquired.
With a gentle smile, Riley assured them, "Just a little. I'm fine, really."
Despite her reassurances, Landon and Winston showed care by fetching water, while Finley joined in ensuring Riley was comfortable on the sofa. Their attentiveness enveloped Riley, banishing the earlier discord completely.
Observing their mom sip the water, Landon, curious, glanced at Donovan at the doorway. "Did you drink too?"
Donovan, raising an eyebrow, replied in a deep tone, "A bit."
Landon, after a moment of contemplation, poured another glass and approached Donovan. "Would you like some?"
A softness crept into Donovan's gaze as he accepted the glass from Landon. "Thank you."
Landon pressed his lips together and didn't respond.
Upon returning the glass and rejoining Riley, Landon earned a pat on the head from his mom, who inquired about their evening activities. Excitedly, Winston seized Riley's arm, urging her to rise. Intrigued, Riley followed him to the carpet where a majestic Lego fairy tale castle loomed, almost 40 inches tall. Proudly, Winston announced, "We finished building it!"
Landon and Finley shared in the jubilation.
Examining the intricate castle that she had bought for them just a week ago, Riley marveled at their swift completion of the elaborate structure composed of over twenty thousand Lego pieces.
"You guys are incredible!" Riley praised, her heart warmed by their achievement.
The kids' joy surged at her words. Finley, with her tiny steps, toddled over to a small room within the castle, pointing eagerly before turning to Riley, anticipation gleaming in her eyes.
