Chapter 266 Jingjing Was Held by Her

"Since Miss Sutton's here and Finley's tree is planted, Mr. Wilder, why don't you take them back?" Riley said, trying to stay unnoticed.

Hollis straightened up, smiling at Donovan. She was there to keep him away from Riley, so Riley's suggestion pleased her.

Donovan frowned at Riley. "Ms. Monroe just helped us plant a tree. I can't leave now. There's still one more to plant. Let's do it together."

Riley wanted to refuse, but Finley timidly called out, "Riley..."

Hearing Finley's voice, Riley looked back and saw the child's face full of fear. The last time Hollis hit Finley had clearly left a mark.

Riley wanted to protect Finley but had no real connection to her. After a moment, she said, "Since Mr. Wilder insists, then I'll trouble you."

Donovan's expression softened as he picked up the shovel and continued. Finley, reassured, smiled and joined the boys in filling the soil, leaving Hollis out in the cold.

"Donovan, you must be tired. Want to take a break?" Hollis tried to pull him away, but he ignored her.

Frustrated, she reached for the shovel, but Landon stopped her. "Miss, if you're worried, shouldn't you care more about Finley? Uncle Donovan's only filled a few holes. It's nothing for an adult. But look at Finley, she's sweating."

Winston added, "Miss, didn't you just apologize to Finley? Or were you not sincere?"

Hollis, angry, clenched her fist but had to let go of Donovan. She walked over to Finley, saying, "Finley, are you tired? I brought some food. Want to eat something nice?"

Finley shrank back, looking at Riley. Riley felt sorry but couldn't interfere. Hollis was Donovan's fiancée and Finley's future mother.

Hollis smiled and picked Finley up. Finley struggled a bit but was held tighter, so she bit her lip and stayed still.

Donovan, seeing Finley quiet, thought she didn't hate Hollis that much and that, in his presence, Hollis wouldn't dare do anything to Finley, so he didn't intervene.

After planting the last tree, Riley suggested again that Donovan take them away. He agreed noncommittally.
