Chapter 393 Her Condition Began to Deteriorate

Dalton totally caught the eye contact between the two but smartly kept his mouth shut.

Once they both looked away, Dalton, with a knowing grin, turned to Riley. "So, the herbal suppliers I reached out to only have branch offices in H City," he said, keeping his voice calm and steady. "But it should be enough to keep your institute stocked. What do you think?" He raised an eyebrow, waiting for her answer.

Riley gathered her thoughts and smiled. "Since you recommended them, I'm sure they're capable. Plus, the Virus Research Institute is small and doesn't need a ton of herbs. A branch office will do just fine."

Dalton raised an eyebrow again. "It's a small institute now, but with you around, who knows what it could turn into."

Riley just smiled and changed the subject. "So, about the cooperation plan, what do those herbal suppliers have in mind?"

She wanted to wrap this up quickly, preferably before Catherine caught wind of it. Once the herbal supplier issue was sorted, she planned to move abroad for good. After she left, the institute would no longer be her concern, and Catherine would stop troubling them.

Dalton replied, "Their main office is in S City. It'd be best if you could visit in person when you have the time."

Riley agreed easily, "I'm free anytime. Just let me know when they confirm the time, Mr. Benedict."

Dalton nodded.

After the business talk, things got a bit awkward at the table. Dalton looked at the two people next to him and couldn't help but feel a bit anxious for them.

Even though Riley hadn't asked Donovan to leave, they hadn't said a word to each other the whole meal.

Dalton decided to give them a nudge. "Donovan, how's Finley been doing these past few days?" he asked casually, taking a bite of his food. He then put down his spoon and looked at Donovan, who was sitting next to him.

Both of their expressions changed slightly at the question.

Donovan hadn't expected Dalton to bring up Finley out of the blue. He glanced quickly at Riley, who was eating with her head down. He frowned a bit before answering in a deep voice, "She's not in any serious condition, just a bit emotionally unstable. Alexander has been visiting her a lot."

Ever since Riley decided to go abroad, Finley had been trying to get better but was still struggling emotionally.

Finley was like this because of Riley, yet Riley across from him seemed indifferent to her situation.

Thinking about this, Donovan's demeanor grew colder.

Riley felt a pang of worry when Dalton mentioned Finley, her chest tightening. She had to muster all her strength to not ask about Finley and kept her head down, trying to stay calm.

Hearing Donovan's response made Riley feel even more guilty. She knew Finley would be emotionally affected by her but had still said those harsh things. She thought, 'Finley must hate me now.'

Dalton pushed further, "What's been going on lately? Finley's condition was stable, then she started to improve. Before we could even celebrate, she went missing, and now her condition is unstable again. How long will it take for Finley to get better at this rate?"

As he spoke, Dalton glanced at Riley across the table.
