Chapter 191 No Need to Take Care of Me
Donovan slept lightly and heard a faint sound in his drowsiness, furrowing his brows as he opened his eyes.
He saw Riley on the hospital bed with her hand on her forehead, clearly already awake.
"How are you feeling? Is the fever bad?" Donovan got up and walked to the bedside.
Riley stiffened slightly, slowly propping herself up in bed, and politely thanked him, "I'm much better now. Sorry for the trouble tonight."
Seeing Riley's distant demeanor, Donovan's eyes darkened slightly. He reminded himself that Riley was still sick and suppressed his displeasure, asking with concern, "You didn't eat anything tonight. Are you hungry?"
Mentioning food made Riley's stomach feel an emptiness.
Not only had she not eaten that night, but due to the fever, Riley had no appetite all day and had only eaten a few bites at noon.
But she didn't want to owe Donovan any more favors.
Riley was about to say she wasn't hungry when her stomach growled involuntarily.
A moment later, Riley's face turned slightly red. She forced herself to remain calm and turned her head away. "It's so late, I don't want to eat anything."
Donovan furrowed his brows and directly walked out of the ward.
Hearing the commotion, Riley turned her head, but Donovan was already gone.
Ten minutes later, Donovan reappeared, holding a bowl of steaming porridge.
"I ordered takeout earlier and heated it up in the microwave. Just have some."
Riley was stunned again.
It wasn't until Donovan adjusted her bed and placed the porridge in front of her that she came back to her senses.
"Thank you." Riley sat up and slowly took a sip from the bowl.
Since Donovan had gone to such lengths, it would seem too impolite to refuse.
Seeing that she didn't refuse, Donovan sat back in the chair and said in a deep voice, "The doctor said you should stay in the hospital tonight to prevent a relapse. You'll do another check-up in the morning, and if everything's fine, you can be discharged."
Riley nodded and glanced at Donovan. "It's late. I'm much better now and can take care of myself. Thank you for tonight. You should go home and rest since you have work tomorrow."
Hearing Riley's clear hint for him to leave, Donovan's face darkened again, and his voice turned cold. "Leaving a patient alone here? I'm not that irresponsible."
Riley frowned slightly. "I don't need care anymore. You won't rest well here, and there's no reason for you to stay."
Moreover, Riley didn't want to owe him more.
The ward was very quiet at night, making Riley's voice seem abrupt.
After she finished speaking, the room fell into a dead silence.
Donovan showed no intention of leaving.
Riley pinched her palm and softened her tone. "There's nothing between us, Mr. Wilder. You don't need to take care of me to this extent. If this continues, I'll feel pressured."
After speaking, Riley looked seriously at Donovan, who was sitting in the chair.
Donovan hadn't expected that after taking such good care of her, she would still distance herself from him. He felt quite displeased.
But he couldn't just leave Riley behind.
Donovan was silent for a while, then suppressed his emotions and said calmly, "Don't misunderstand. I just think that if I go back now, Finley will throw a fit when she finds out."
In other words, Donovan wasn't staying just to take care of her.
Riley couldn't argue with him and had to acquiesce to him staying.
However, there was nothing to say between them.
The atmosphere in the ward was quite awkward.
