Chapter 189 How Does It Feel

Riley hesitated for a moment.

She didn't want to have too much contact with Donovan, but she had to admit, this was the best solution.

After a moment, Riley nodded in agreement. "Then I'll trouble you."

Donovan nodded.

Riley then asked Landon and Winston to get off the bed, and she got up herself.

Unexpectedly, as soon as Riley stood up, she felt a wave of dizziness. Fortunately, she was still by the bed, and after staggering a few steps, she managed to steady herself by holding onto the bed.

"I gotcha," Sophie interjected swiftly, moving to aid her descent.

Swallowed by darkness momentarily, Riley's senses slowly surfaced, her resolve tenuous as she weakly assented.

With Sophie's support, a tentative procession commenced, the kids tailing closely in concern.

Riley's feeble state necessitated an almost exclusive reliance on Sophie for locomotion, the weight of her exhaustion palpable in each labored step.

Moved by the sight, the children instinctively extended their hands in a gesture of assistance, but as Landon's hand reached out, a looming figure intercepted his path.

Donovan stood in front of Sophie, frowning, and said firmly, "I'll do it, you just watch the kids."

Without waiting for Riley to react, he scooped her up in his arms.

Riley was running a fever and her reactions were slow. It took her a few seconds to realize what was happening. She struggled a bit, but her efforts were feeble, and Donovan held her steadily.

After a while, Riley stopped struggling, frowning in protest. "Put me down, I can walk by myself."

Donovan pretended not to hear her voice and turned to Sophie, instructing, "They haven't eaten anything tonight. Please take care of them and make sure they have dinner. If we come back late, let them go to bed early."

Sophie quickly agreed.

The kids, however, were not happy and followed them all the way to the car, trying to climb in.

Donovan placed Riley inside, then turned around and lifted the kids out one by one.

The kids looked dejectedly at Riley in the car.

"If you follow us, you'll only make her worry, which won't help her recovery. It's better to stay home, eat your dinner, and go to bed early," Donovan patiently reassured them.

Hearing this, they looked at Riley, not quite believing it.

Riley forced a smile and said, "Yes, go to bed early, you don't have to wait for me to come back."

Only then did the kids reluctantly nod.

Donovan got in the car, sat next to Riley, closed the door, cutting off the kids' view, and instructed the driver to head to the hospital as quickly as possible.

At the villa entrance, the kids watched the car drive away, then reluctantly followed Sophie back inside.

Riley kept looking at the rearview mirror outside, and only when she saw the kids go inside did she feel relieved.

The car was very warm, and Riley felt a wave of drowsiness wash over her. Knowing Donovan was sitting next to her, she tried hard to stay awake.

But she was still running a fever. Despite pinching her palm repeatedly, her eyelids grew heavy, and she unknowingly fell asleep.

"How does it feel?" Donovan asked in a deep voice as they hit some traffic.

After a while, there was no response.

He turned his head and saw Riley sleeping soundly with her head tilted.

Seeing this, a complex emotion flashed through Donovan's heart. He silently looked away and instructed the driver, "Drive slower."

After a while, Donovan felt a weight on his shoulder.

He turned his head and looked at Riley's sleeping profile, his eyes gradually softening.
