Chapter 377 Can We Leave a bit Later?
In the evening, when Riley got home, Sophie had already picked up the kids and whipped up dinner.
As soon as Riley walked in, Landon and Winston rushed over, "Mom, you must be beat!"
They looked up at her, noticing she seemed extra tired today.
Seeing this, the boys exchanged worried looks, figuring Riley must've had a rough day at work.
Riley had been running around all day for herbs and was already wiped out. Seeing their worried faces, she forced a smile and patted their heads. "Thanks for caring, my boys."
Right after she said that, Landon and Winston darted off and came back with her slippers, placing them at her feet.
Riley smiled with relief. After she took off her coat, they scrambled to hang it up. They were so short they struggled a bit before finally getting it on the rack.
Riley just watched with a smile, patiently waiting for them to finish, then led them to the dining table.
As soon as she sat down, the boys offered her some veggies. "Mommy, eat some vegetables!"
Seeing how thoughtful they were, Riley felt all her exhaustion melt away, her face lighting up with smiles.
"Mommy, was work tough today?" Winston asked, leaning over the table, watching her closely.
Riley smiled reassuringly. "Seeing you two, I don't feel tired at all."
The kids looked skeptical.
Riley laughed. "Come on, dig in." She thought they'd be quiet while eating, but Winston's innocent voice piped up again. "Mommy, when are we going abroad?"
Next to him, Landon also looked at Riley eagerly.
Riley was caught off guard. After a few seconds, she replied, "I still have some stuff to finish at the research institute. Once that's done, we'll go."
Winston pressed, "So, it'll be a while before we leave?"
Riley nodded noncommittally.
Winston, not knowing why, kept asking. "Will it be a long time?"
Riley frowned slightly, puzzled as she met his gaze, seeing the anticipation in his eyes. She felt a pang of guilt. The kids clearly loved their life here, but because of her, they had to move around constantly.
But thinking about how Catherine was constantly targeting her from behind, Riley could only harden her heart.
Seeing her not answer for a long time, Winston urged anxiously, "Mommy!"
Riley snapped back to reality, her smile a bit forced. "I'm not sure either. Why are you asking all of a sudden?"
Winston and Landon exchanged a glance, their faces showing disappointment.
Seeing their expressions, Riley felt puzzled.
"Today at kindergarten, we saw Finley. Even though she still played with us, we felt she was unhappy," Winston explained, his voice full of concern.
After speaking, he looked at Riley with a pleading expression. "Mommy, can we leave a bit later?"
Thinking of Finley, Riley felt a sharp pain in her heart. After a long silence, she shook her head resolutely. "Once the work is done, we'll leave. Don't you miss Chandler?"
Winston and Landon lowered their heads in disappointment. They muttered, "We miss Chandler, but we also don't want to leave Finley."
