Chapter 23 Wanting to Break off the Engagement

Once Finley was taken by her teacher, Donovan retracted his gaze and instructed Paxton, "Let's go."

Paxton nodded and headed towards the Wilder Corporation.

After arriving at the company, Donovan attended a high-level meeting.

The meeting lasted for over an hour.

Donovan went straight back to his office after the meeting.

"Van, you're back."

As soon as he walked in, he heard Hollis's voice.

After listening, Donovan frowned.

He only saw Hollis in a black suit, standing in front of his desk with a smile. It seemed like he had been waiting inside for a while.

"When did you come?"

Donovan walked briskly to the desk, and his gaze shifted from the documents on the table to Hollis's face.

Seeing him sit down, Hollis also sat down, smiling warmly. "I just arrived not long ago. I heard from Paxton that you went to a meeting."

After speaking, he suddenly noticed the scar at the corner of Donovan's mouth and felt a twinge of concern. "Your mouth. Is it injured?"

Thinking about what happened yesterday, Donovan's eyes revealed unhappiness, and his tone was cold. "It's just a careless bite. There's no need to be surprised."

Hollis nodded and reassured herself. Over these years, besides her, there hadn't been any other women around Donovan, so this injury shouldn't be what she suspected.

Thinking this, she reluctantly put her mind at ease.

"What's the matter?" Donovan asked coldly.

After listening, Hollis gathered her thoughts and laughed. "Indeed, it's a bit of business. We were just one step away from signing the contract for our previous collaborative project, so I came to confirm with you if there are any other conditions. Also, my parents said they wanted to invite you to dinner tonight. Your mom and dad will be there too. I don't know if you have time?"

This dinner was specifically arranged with the intention of urging their marriage.

Donovan glanced at her, furrowing his brows, and his tone was also icy. "Please tell Mr. and Mrs. Sutton for me that I have work tonight and no time to go."

The smile on Hollis's face froze for a moment, and for a while, she didn't know what to say.

The purpose of tonight's banquet was indeed to urge her and Donovan's marriage.

However, this matter should have been settled years ago.

However, after waiting so long for Riley to leave, Donovan kept delaying under the pretext of work.

And later on, he used Finley as an excuse, dragging on and refusing to marry her!

Now, it had been a whole six years!

She had waited for so many years, but she still couldn't get a result. How could she not be anxious?

Until today, Donovan was still avoiding it.

Hollis raised the corners of her lips with bitterness as she looked at the man in front of her. "Van, I have already waited for six years. How many more six years can a woman have? Of course, I am willing to continue waiting for you, but if it is destined for us to be together, why are you so unwilling to marry me?"

As she spoke, Hollis carefully observed Donovan's expression and saw his indifferent look. "We planned to get married from the beginning, so why?"

"I did promise that I would marry you," Donovan coldly interrupted her questioning, "but where does this promise come from? You should be well aware."

Hollis saw his expression and inexplicably felt nervous.

"I think that over the years, the Wilder family has compensated the Sutton family in various ways, even far exceeding the value of this engagement. Even if this engagement is not fulfilled, no one will say anything."

Donovan's tone was calm, obviously something he had planned in advance.

Upon hearing this, Hollis stared wide-eyed, feeling panicked.

Donovan's meaning was clear - he wanted to dissolve the engagement between their two families!
