Chapter 312 Donovan's Suspicion

On the way to the hospital, Catherine was freaking out as she dialed Donovan. He picked up fast and asked, "Mom, what's up?"

"Get in touch with the hospital for me, quick. We were almost hit, and Hollis got hurt saving me," Catherine said, her voice shaky.

Donovan was on it in a flash. After hanging up, Catherine called Alice and her husband to fill them in on Hollis's condition. They were super worried and asked for the hospital's location before ending the call.

Donovan was a beast. By the time Catherine got Hollis to the hospital, a doctor was already waiting at the entrance. "Mrs. Wilder, Ms. Sutton, follow me," the doctor said, taking a quick look at Hollis's injury and leading them upstairs to a clinic.

Hollis clutched her arm, looking pale as a ghost while the doctor checked her out. She thought about Catherine waiting outside and felt like the pain was worth it. Catherine's face was a mix of guilt and gratitude. This whole mess made Hollis sure that Catherine would always have her back.

During the check-up, Donovan, Alice, and her husband showed up.

"Mom, you okay?" Donovan asked, scanning his mom up and down as she waited outside.

Catherine, still rattled and worried about Hollis, just shook her head with a grim look. "Hollis pushed me away. I'm fine. It's Hollis who's hurt."

Right then, a low cry came from inside. The examination must've hit a sore spot. Hearing that, Catherine's heart twisted, feeling like the pain was her own.

Alice and her husband, who hadn't seen their daughter yet, were anxiously waiting at the door. Hearing the cry, they asked Catherine, "What happened exactly?"

Catherine's face tightened as she remembered the parking lot incident. "We were walking to the parking lot when a car suddenly lost control and came at us. Hollis pushed me away but got hit herself."

Alice and her husband looked like they wanted to say something, but Donovan jumped in first, "What about the driver?"

Catherine frowned. "He took off."

Everyone was stunned. After getting the lowdown, Alice put her hands on her hips, looking furious. "How dare they run after causing this! Did you call the cops? We need to catch them and teach them a lesson!"

Catherine shook her head, still grim. She'd been so focused on getting Hollis to the hospital that she hadn't called the police.

Donovan frowned, giving Alice and her husband a suspicious look. But their genuine reactions showed they had no clue about the incident.

Seeing this, Donovan backed off and said, "Leave it to me. Don't worry about it." Whether the driver had bad intentions or not, he wasn't letting it slide.

After that, he nodded to the elders, stepped aside, and called Paxton, telling him to call the cops and get someone to investigate. Paxton agreed right away.

By the time Donovan wrapped up the arrangements, Hollis's examination was done. As soon as the doctor spoke, Alice and her husband rushed in, with Catherine right behind them. Donovan watched the three elders go in before slowly following, his suspicion still lingering. The whole thing had happened too suddenly and too perfectly.
