Chapter 242 Adjacent Seats
An hour later, on the plane to H City.
Riley frowned as she saw Donovan walk in.
She had thought what he said before was just casual, especially since they bought their tickets last minute.
When she booked her ticket, only three remained available. After securing hers and Adam's, she was surprised to find that a single seat remained. Little did she anticipate that Donovan would claim it.
Regret flashed in Riley's eyes as Donovan got closer.
She had planned to return alone, so she bought her ticket first. As a result, she and Adam didn't get seats together.
Ironically, the last available seat was adjacent to hers, and she hadn't anticipated Donovan occupying it, hence not considering a seat change.
Now she was by the window, and Donovan was almost blocking her way. Switching seats now would seem too obvious.
While Riley hesitated, Donovan sat down beside her.
Riley frowned and collected her thoughts. She had no choice but to sit like this.
Before boarding, Donovan wondered where Riley's seat was. He didn't expect to see her right next to him.
Noticing Riley's discomfort, Donovan smirked, "Like I said, I got a ticket for this flight too. It's a pity you and Mr. Smith didn't wait for me."
Riley turned to the window, ignoring him.
Since she couldn't avoid it, she decided to treat Donovan like a stranger and fly back to H City in peace.
However, Donovan beside her clearly thought otherwise.
"I'm curious, Ms. Monroe, why the rush? You didn't mention going back to H City during breakfast," Donovan's voice was teasing.
Riley frowned and coldly retorted, "I'm curious too, Mr. Wilder. Your fiancée is still in North City, and you're leaving her behind?"
Donovan's eyes darkened at the mention of his fiancée.
Riley pretended not to notice and continued, "Mr. Wilder, your big day is coming up. You should be with your fiancée."
Donovan was about to respond when Riley pulled out a small blanket, covered herself, and lay down facing the window.
Through the blanket, Riley's muffled voice said, "I'm tired and need to rest. Please be quiet, Mr. Wilder."
With that, she closed her eyes, showing only the back of her head to Donovan.
Donovan didn't say anything more, just stared at Riley.
Whether it was the timing of her departure or her earlier words, Donovan was sure she left because of Hollis.
But he couldn't understand how Riley viewed his relationship with Hollis.
If she really considered him a stranger, why be so hostile towards his rumored fiancée?
Riley had no idea what Donovan was thinking and pretended to sleep.
She hoped to sleep all the way to H City, avoiding Donovan.
But even with her back to him, she could feel his gaze, making it impossible to fall asleep.
