Chapter 165 What's your relationship with Adam?

Donovan practically yanked Riley out of the party in front of everyone, his grip like a vise around her wrist. Riley struggled to free herself with no luck until they stepped outside the villa, where he relented slightly.

Jerking her hand away, Riley distanced herself. "I appreciate it, Mr. Wilder, but I can manage on my own. Your mom and fiancée are still inside. You should head back to them."

Attempting to walk past Donovan towards the entrance, she craved solitude, never expecting such a public confrontation or Donovan's audacity. As she moved by him, Donovan seized her wrist again, tighter this time. Riley halted, maintaining her composure. "Is there something else, Mr. Wilder?"

Donovan, sensing Riley's indifference, couldn't shake off his irritation from seeing her laughing with Adam earlier. "I just want to check on my daughter and offer a ride. Let's not dawdle. Get in the car."

"I have my own car, and Olivia's waiting at home. Please go ahead, Mr. Wilder," Riley persisted.

His features darkening, Donovan's anger simmered. "Don't forget, you had a few drinks. Planning to drive under the influence?"

Riley paused, mulling over his words. Taking advantage of her hesitation, Donovan guided her towards the waiting car.

Riley couldn't break free, and Donovan's reasoning left her with no argument. He was going to see Finley, not to take her home. If she refused again, it would seem self-important. Besides, she had indeed had a couple of drinks at the party.

When they approached, Paxton had already opened the car door for them, waiting for them to get in.

Riley was still somewhat reluctant.

"Weren't you in a hurry to leave earlier? Or was that just an excuse to avoid staying at the party?" Donovan questioned in a deep voice.

Hearing this, Riley finally got into the car. Donovan followed closely and sat beside her. Riley silently moved closer to the window, distancing herself from him, her expression stern.

During the ride, Paxton discreetly drove as Donovan kept a brooding gaze on Riley, his emotions unreadable. Earlier, Riley had been animated with Adam, but now, beside him, her demeanor was starkly different. The contrast irked Donovan, prompting him to break the silence. "What's going on between you and Adam Smith? Seems like you two are pretty chummy."

Startled by the question, Riley shot him a cold glance. "My relationship with him is none of your concern, is it?" With that, she turned away, signaling an end to the conversation.

The silence enveloped the car once more, Donovan's mood casting a heavy pall. Paxton, wishing for invisibility, navigated the road cautiously, trying not to intrude on the tense atmosphere.
