Chapter 213 I owe you a favor

Hearing that voice, everyone froze.

Riley tensed up.

She knew Donovan too well; just from his voice, she could picture his icy expression.

And with everything that had happened lately, Riley had no idea how to face the person behind her.

But Donovan was already walking up to them.

When Aaron saw who it was, he noticed Donovan's look at Riley, and his expression shifted. "Mr. Wilder, this is..."

He didn't know Donovan had other women besides Hollis.

But Donovan's attitude toward Riley made him suspicious.

Donovan remembered Riley clinking glasses with him earlier, and his gaze turned cold. "Mr. Baker, when you're picking women, at least be selective. Don't get involved with those who have kids."

Donovan's eyes locked onto Riley's face.

Aaron's eyes widened in surprise.

Riley had kids? He couldn't tell at all.

Riley hadn't expected Donovan to bring this up in front of strangers and use it to mock her. Her eyes darkened. "I do have two kids, but it doesn't affect my being single now, nor who I make friends with. Mr. Wilder, you don't need to worry about me."

The tension was suffocating. Donovan glanced at Aaron and his friends, then sneered, "Are you sure you want to discuss this here with me?"

They were close to the dance floor, and their striking looks had already drawn curious glances.

Noticing the stares, Riley pinched her palm to suppress her anger, set Harper on her feet, and turned toward the bar's entrance.

Instinctively, Aaron moved to follow, only to halt as he watched Donovan striding ahead.

Upon reaching the bar's entrance, they were greeted by a cool breeze that seemed to almost dispel Riley's drunkenness.

Just as she was about to hail a cab, she heard footsteps behind her, followed by Donovan's commanding tone, "I'll take you back."

Riley refused without turning, "No need, Mr. Wilder. We can take a cab."

Donovan frowned and cut to the chase, "At this place, how long do you think you'll wait for a cab? How long will you make Landon and Winston wait for you?"

Riley choked up.

She hadn't explained to Sophie when she left, and she didn't know what Harper had said. She didn't know if the kids would really wait for her.

After a while, there wasn't a single empty cab, and Harper had already fallen asleep.

Donovan's car pulled up, the passenger window rolled down, revealing Donovan's stern profile. "Get in."

Riley frowned.

But Harper, feeling cold, shivered and woke up. Seeing the car, she thought it was the cab and got in without hesitation.

Seeing this, Riley's face stiffened. She bent down to call her out but saw Harper had already fallen asleep.

After a moment of hesitation, she got in too, glancing at Donovan before calmly stating, "Thank you, Mr. Wilder. Consider it a favor I owe you."

Donovan frowned but didn't respond. He just told the driver to head to Riley's place.

Soon, the car started moving, but the cabin was dead silent.

Except for Harper's occasional murmurs in her sleep, there was no other sound.

The atmosphere was heavy.
