Chapter 109: Please Spare My Children
After leaving the principal's office, Riley picked up her children.
"I have some things to do later. Would you like to stay with Auntie Bishop?" On the way back, Riley suppressed her anger and asked the two boys.
The two little ones believed her and nodded.
Riley gave them to Harper and then drove back to the car, her expression darkening once more as she headed towards the Wilder’s house.
"Ms. Monroe..." Cole began to greet her as he opened the door, but stopped short when he noticed Riley's expression, causing her to swallow the rest of her words.
Riley nodded and looked towards the living room. "Is Donovan here? I need to talk to him."
Hearing this, Cole quickly nodded. "I'll go upstairs and call him."
Soon, the two of them came downstairs one after the other, with Finley trailing behind them.
Donovan still wasn't at ease with leaving Finley with his parents, so he decided to pick her up early from kindergarten.
Without having to encounter Hollis, Finley was in a much better mood. When she spotted Riley, her eyes sparkled and she smiled, eager to run over and give her a hug.
Riley's heart softened for a moment when she saw Finley. She patted her head. "I have something to discuss with your daddy. Can you play by yourself for a bit?"
Finley obediently nodded and sat down on the carpet by the sofa with her doll.
Donovan frowned slightly. "What's the matter?"
Upon hearing his voice, Riley's long-held anger finally boiled over. "Donovan, if you have an issue with me, address it with me. Why involve Landon and Winston? What have they done to deserve this? They've always treated you with respect and looked after your daughter. There's no excuse to bully those boys, even just for Finley's sake!”
Donovan hadn't expected Riley to visit suddenly, much less for her to be so furious. Hearing her words, his frown deepened. "What did I do to them? Tell me."
Noticing the bewilderment on Donovan's face, Riley sneered, "You truly don't know? Except for you, who could have the power to have them kicked out of kindergarten? Just stop pretending to be innocent, okay?”
Donovan was taken aback and instinctively began to explain, "I did speak to the principal, but I already..."
Before he could finish, Riley's angry voice cut him off. " Donovan, don't you think you're crossing a line here? Whatever happened between us in the past was our issue to deal with. If you have any grievances, direct them towards me. I can handle it! The children are innocent bystanders in all of this. They are completely unaware. Why involve them in your actions?"
After speaking, Riley tightly clenched her palms, attempting to maintain a calm tone. "Yes, I was reckless in the past and made mistakes with you. You have every right to seek revenge on me, but could you please refrain from causing problems for us and spare my two children?" With that, Riley pressed her lips together, lowered her gaze, and a faint redness appeared in her eyes as she looked away.
The principal was correct. Considering Riley's situation, it would be simple for Landon and Winston to enroll in another kindergarten. However, that would only be possible if Donovan didn't intervene.
If Donovan chose not to spare them, it would be futile, no matter how competent she was.
Thinking of this, Riley gave a self-mocking smile.
Despite their recent strained interactions, she had believed that they had managed to maintain a semblance of friendliness and move past their previous conflicts.
However, it became apparent to Riley that this was merely wishful thinking.
In Donovan's eyes, she remained an unwelcome presence. Witnessing the stubborn yet hurt expression on Riley's face, Donovan felt a twinge of guilt in his heart.
For a moment, he was at a loss for words and started to regret his actions in requesting the principal's involvement.
