Chapter 153 Spoke to Her Heart

Donovan and Paxton helped load the boxes into Riley's car and then, without saying much more, took their leave.

After getting in the car, Paxton hesitated and asked, "Mr. Wilder, shouldn't you be spending more time with Finley?"

Finley had been staying at Riley's house for a while and had little contact with Donovan, which made Paxton worry that the father and daughter might grow distant.

Donovan shook his head without saying a word.

Landon and Winston clearly hadn't truly forgiven him yet. He had already spent the whole day with them, and if he continued to stay, the goodwill he had painstakingly built up with gifts might vanish.

Thinking about Landon and Winston's attitude towards him, Donovan couldn't help but feel a headache coming on.

As a ring interrupted his internal reverie, Donovan's brows knit in a silent query before he answered the call with a curt, "Hey, what's new?"

On the other end, Dalton's voice came through, "Donovan, are you free in a couple of days? It's my grandpa's birthday party soon. We initially didn't plan to make it a big event, but his health has improved a lot recently, so we thought we'd take this opportunity to celebrate. You must come!"

Hearing this, Donovan replied in a deep voice, "Got it, I'll make time."

Daniel had treated him well over the years, and Donovan had put a lot of effort into curing Daniel's illness.

Now that it was Daniel's birthday party, he naturally had to attend.

After Riley returned with the kids, Landon and Winston couldn't wait to start unboxing their figurines, which kept them busy until late at night. Knowing they didn't have school the next day, Riley didn't mind and just coaxed Finley to sleep early.

The next morning, after leaving the kids in Olivia's care, Riley went to the Benedict's to administer the next phase of Daniel's treatment. Accompanied by Dalton, discussions veered towards the intricate birthday preparations.

During the discourse, Dalton interjected, bringing up Riley in conversation. "Dr. Monroe, any chance you're available for my grandpa's celebration two sunsets from now? Your attendance is earnestly sought."

As they chatted, Dalton brought up Riley. "Dr. Monroe, do you have time to attend my grandpa's birthday party in a couple of days? I've reserved a spot just for you."

Riley had just finished the treatment and was a bit surprised by the sudden invitation.

She had overheard Dalton and Daniel's conversation earlier. This time, Daniel's party was going to be quite grand, with all the important figures of H City and several prominent families close to the Benedict family in attendance.

Riley, being new to H City and just an unknown doctor, felt out of place at such an event.

So, Riley hesitated for a moment before declining, "I'd better not. I'm not very good at handling such occasions."

As soon as she finished speaking, Daniel's voice came through, "This birthday party wouldn't be happening without Dr. Monroe. If it weren't for you, I'd still be bedridden. No matter what, I hope you can attend. Don't worry, if you don't like socializing, I won't let anyone bother you."

Faced with Daniel's enthusiasm, Riley didn't know how to refuse.

Dalton also smiled and said, "You might not be good at it now, but you'll have to get used to it eventually. You now have a research institute to manage, and you'll inevitably need to interact with those people. You can take this opportunity to get familiar with it. Who knows, you might even find business opportunities for the institute."

His words resonated within her, prompting a nod of acquiescence, "Since Mr. Benedict Senior extends such a generous invitation, I shall arrive promptly."

Before leaving, Riley briefly explained Daniel's follow-up treatment, "There's one more treatment session left, and then the course will be complete. After that, it's just rest and recuperation. I'll prescribe some medicine for you. Make sure to take it regularly, and you'll get better."

Dalton and Daniel agreed and thanked her profusely.
