Chapter 317 Catherine's Intention
"We've been yappin' for ages, and Hollis and I haven't even had lunch yet. Can you get someone to grab us some grub?" Catherine shot Donovan a serious look.
Donovan caught on to Catherine's vibe and knew she wanted a private chat. Without making a fuss, he just nodded, "Alright," and headed out of the hospital room.
As the door clicked shut, Catherine took Hollis's hand with a knowing look. Hollis, a bit confused, asked, "Auntie, what's up?"
She couldn't figure out why Catherine needed Donovan out of the room. Did she see through their act? These thoughts raced through Hollis's mind, making her a bit nervous, her smile slipping just a tad.
"Now that Donovan's out, I can be straight with you," Catherine said, her tone way more chill.
Hollis nodded, "Go ahead."
Catherine continued, "You get what I'm aiming for, right? Donovan doesn't have to be the one taking care of you. We could hire a nurse. I had him do it to help patch things up between you two. You've been together for years, and he's not heartless."
Hollis was momentarily stunned but then felt a wave of relief. Her smile grew as she replied, "I get it. Thanks for thinking of us, Auntie. I'll make the most of this."
Catherine nodded. "But Donovan's been pampered his whole life. He doesn't really know how to take care of someone. This might be tough for you."
Hollis quickly shook her head, flashing a sweet smile. "It's no big deal. I'm easy to take care of. As long as I'm with Donovan, I'm happy."
She didn't need Donovan to take care of her; she just needed him to ditch Riley!
Catherine, clueless about Hollis's real thoughts, just saw her as deeply in love with Donovan. Sincerely, she said, "Good girl, I can't think of anyone better to be Mrs. Wilder than you."
Blushing, Hollis looked down modestly. "Auntie, you're too kind. I just hope Donovan doesn't hold any grudges over past stuff. I don't dare to hope for more."
Catherine sighed, feeling a mix of emotions. Hollis was such a good girl, but Donovan was blind, obsessed with Riley. But Catherine was here now, determined. She'd never let Riley into the Wilder family again!
Hollis lowered her head, her mind racing. It seemed Catherine was all in on making her the daughter-in-law, and Donovan was too distracted to notice that other girl. If Beck and his crew could dig up the real dad of those two kids soon, Riley would be out of moves!
They were about to say more when they heard footsteps approaching the door. Catherine cleared her throat and smoothly shifted her demeanor, showing concern for Hollis's injuries. Playing along, Hollis nodded, fitting right into the act.
Donovan walked back in, glanced around, and immediately sensed their staged behavior. It was obvious they talked about more than just Hollis's injuries while he was gone. But since they didn't want him to know, Donovan didn't press. He just walked over to the bedside and set the lunch box on the nightstand.
