Chapter 354 Ensure Riley Really Leaves H City
Seeing Donovan stay silent, Finley's eyes lost their sparkle. She looked down for a bit, then glanced back up and asked softly, "Daddy, when I grow up, can I go find Auntie Riley to play?"
Donovan was taken aback by Finley's words. She was so young, how could she be thinking so far ahead? Clearly, Riley had said something to comfort her. So, Riley really planned to leave the country and cut off contact with Finley.
A hint of bitterness flashed in Donovan's eyes. If Riley knew she had abandoned Finley as a baby six years ago and was planning to do it again, what would she think?
But Finley looked up at him seriously and said, "Auntie Riley said I can go find her when I grow up, so I need to get better quickly."
Riley had definitely planted that idea in her head. Donovan thought back to how Finley had acted at dinner – eating more than usual and trying to engage with him – all because of Riley's words, hoping to get better quickly. Did Riley realize just how much she influenced Finley?
Finley mumbled to herself for a bit, then looked down sadly and whispered, "It would be great if Auntie Riley didn't leave." Even though she could go find Riley when she grew up, that was a long, long time away. She wanted to see Riley every day.
Seeing Finley so down, Donovan's eyes darkened, and he promised in a deep voice, "I'll find a way."
Their relationship might be strained, but Riley was the woman he had searched for six years and Finley's mother. Now that he knew Riley intended to leave abroad, he wouldn't let her slip away so easily.
Hearing Donovan's promise, Finley felt a glimmer of hope and nodded eagerly.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Hollis had been waiting for Donovan to get off work but hadn't seen him. Instead, she got a call from one of her subordinates.
The subordinate reported, "Ms. Sutton, Finley was brought to see Riley by her teacher. She stayed at Riley's house until four in the afternoon, and Riley personally sent Finley back."
Hollis's face darkened. She asked, "What about Donovan? Did he show up?"
She had gone through so much just to make sure Donovan and Riley had no time to interact. Last time Riley visited the hospital, Hollis had gone out of her way to make herself look important in Donovan's life. If Donovan went to see Riley again today, wouldn't all her efforts be wasted?
On the other end, the subordinate quickly replied, "Mr. Wilder didn't show up at all, but shortly after Finley returned home, Mr. Wilder also came back with a man. It seems something happened to Finley, and Mr. Wilder looked very anxious."
Hollis secretly breathed a sigh of relief and instructed, "Got it. Keep an eye on Riley for me."
After hanging up, Hollis lay on the hospital bed, her mind racing with plans against Riley.
According to what her subordinate just said, Donovan should be at home with Finley now. Her self-inflicted suffering had indeed reduced the chances of Donovan meeting Riley, but it couldn't affect Finley's feelings for her.
If she let them keep interacting, Donovan and Riley would inevitably come into contact again.
Hollis thought, 'The only solution now is to make sure that bitch really leaves H City!'
