Chapter 101 Kaitlyn's Assessment
Lillian and Alexander returned home, and Lucas, with a stern face, said to them, "If you come back this late again tomorrow, I'll be really mad!"
Oscar had been playing with him all evening, saying smilingly now, "Lucas, isn't it fun playing with me in the evening?"
"Okay, but when they're not home, I get worried," Lucas said, tilting his head and looking at Lillian, mimicking an adult's tone, "Especially you, a girl, don't come back too late."
Lillian laughed. "I'm with Alexander. What are you worried about?"
"Lillian, you've spent time with Alexander. Now it's my turn," Lucas said anxiously, hugging her from behind as she was about to go to her room.
Lillian stopped, saying embarrassedly, "Sweetheart, I still have work to finish tonight, so I can't play with you or sleep with you. How about in a couple of days? I promise, once I'm done with this busy period and the weather gets warmer, I'll take you to the amusement park."
Lucas pouted. "When the weather gets warmer, how long will that be?"
Lillian comforted him, "It'll be soon."
Alexander, standing behind, called out, "Lucas, come upstairs with me. I need to check your homework."
"Oscar already checked it today." Lucas reluctantly followed Alexander upstairs.
Lillian felt something was off, asking Oscar, "Why did you check Lucas's homework? Did he ask you?"
"Didn't Alexander tell you? Lucas is on vacation now. I'm tutoring him with his first-grade homework and assigning tasks. Alexander pays me five hundred dollars a month."
"What?" Lillian asked in astonishment, "Why didn't I know about this? He didn't tell me."
Oscar shrugged. "Maybe he didn't think it was important enough to mention."
"Alright," Lillian thought deeply and went back to her room.
While taking a bath, she thought about what Oscar had told her. 'Why was he being so kind? Admired by Oscar, he takes care of Oscar. They really seemed like a close-knit family.' She smiled helplessly, feeling like she owed him another favor.
Lillian came out after washing up, dried her hair, and sat at her vanity to memorize phone numbers. She didn't dare flip back, fearing she'd break down, so she obediently memorized page after page.
She didn't know how long she had been memorizing or when she leaned on the vanity or fell asleep. All she knew was that she woke up to the alarm, showing 5:30 am.
Lillian slowly sat up, her back aching, arms numb, and drool at the corner of her mouth. She yawned widely and dazedly sat there for a while.
She hadn't slept well. Her dark circles were evident. Kelly noticed and asked with concern, "Lillian, why do you look so tired? How late did you stay up last night?"
"I don't even know." She sat at the table, lazily picking up a slice of bread to eat.
While eating, she continued to memorize phone numbers.
Lillian left twenty minutes earlier than usual today, arriving at the office like a student waiting for an exam, ready for Kaitlyn's assessment.
Her phone on the table suddenly beeped with a message from Kevin.
Kevin: [Lillian, friendly reminder, the companies recently in contact with Sinclair Group are BlueSky Ventures, GreenTech Solutions, SK Group...]
Lillian looked at the message, understanding that these companies might be tested first. She felt a touch of gratitude.
Lillian quickly replied: [Thank you, Kevin. I'll treat you to a meal someday.]
Kevin's phone beeped with a Facebook notification. He opened it, feeling a bit nervous, then locked his keyboard.
"What did she say?" Alexander asked casually.
"She thanked me and said she'd treat me to a meal," Kevin said hesitantly, sweating a bit. "She was just being polite."
"Kevin, she seems to be very warm towards you." Alexander suddenly looked up at him. "Have you noticed?"
"Alexander, don't misunderstand. There's really nothing between Lillian and me," Kevin said anxiously, trying to prove himself, "Boss, I've been with you for so many years. You have to trust me!"
Alexander laughed. "Calm down!"
Kevin composed himself and said seriously, "Please trust me!"
"If I didn't trust you, I would have fired you long ago. Why would I keep you until now?" Alexander said.
Hearing this, Kevin laughed, feeling like Alexander was a bit jealous. He thought Alexander would never have said such things before.
Kaitlyn arrived at the office without wasting time. After sending all the files Alexander needed, she began testing Lillian.
Lillian was very nervous and carefully recited everything. Honestly, she hadn't memorized everything, but she tried her best.
After more than ten minutes, she finished and looked at Kaitlyn, holding her breath.
Kaitlyn listened, without showing any emotion, saying, "You're quite clever, knowing to memorize the phone numbers of the companies we're currently working with. But you didn't memorize everything, so I'm not satisfied."
She then took out a vocabulary book from the drawer and said, "I heard from Alexander that your English is terrible. Tonight, memorize one hundred business terms, plus the phone numbers you didn't memorize. I'll check them all tomorrow."
Lillian was stunned, 'One hundred business terms? Did she hear that right? How could she manage that in one night?'
"Kaitlyn, can I have two days?" Lillian pleaded.
"Two days? Then it will be three hundred terms. Your choice."
This would increase the workload. Who would dare negotiate further?
"Alright, I'll do my best," Lillian said defiantly, "I'll definitely complete the task by tomorrow."
Seeing her stubbornness, Kaitlyn added, "If you don't have time during the day, use your spare moments. There's a knack to memorizing things."
"Got it," Lillian replied.
In the morning, Kaitlyn handed her a file folder and a car key, saying, "Take my car and deliver this to the president of SK Group."
Lillian felt very nervous. 'Driving? With so many cars on the road during the day, could her driving skills handle it?'
"What are you waiting for? Hurry up and come back," Kaitlyn urged.
Lillian had no choice but to accept the task. She took the items and put them in her bag, saying, "I'm on my way."
In the garage, Lillian found Kaitlyn's car and was stunned, 'It was a luxury car worth millions. She had to be extra careful.'
She nervously started the car, slowly driving out of the garage.
It was around 10 a.m. The roads were bustling. Lillian gripped the steering wheel tightly, not daring to relax.
At a traffic light, she slowly pressed the brake. But whether it was because of her high heels or the slippery road, the car went out of control and lurched forward.
Suddenly, there was a loud noise. She had rear-ended someone.
