Chapter 234 Shae Becomes Blake's Secretary

Lola thought Adam had a point. Alexander and Blake never got along, and who knew whose side Alexander would take?

Adam's friend asked, "Who are you talking about? Someone from the Sinclair family in Rihegde?"

"No idea. Who cares? Let's go get a drink." Adam put his arm around his friend's shoulder and patted his chest. "Don't worry. I'll take responsibility!"

Lola followed behind. She felt a bit relieved that Adam had taught a lesson to the person who helped Shae.

In the hospital, a nurse was treating Blake's wound. He kept groaning, "Take it easy."

"Hang in there, Blake," Shae said softly, sitting beside him. She couldn't help but think how different two brothers could be.

Blake's face was being treated, and it hurt a lot. He grabbed Shae's hand tightly, trying not to make any sound.

Shae's hand hurt from his grip. She thought, 'Since you helped me and look a bit like Alexander, I'll let you hold my hand for now.'

"All done," the nurse said, bandaging the wound and laughing. "I've never seen a guy so afraid of pain."

Blake said awkwardly, "I can handle fight pain, but this medicine stuff is unbearable."

"Blake, can you let go of my hand now?" Shae asked. "You're hurting me."

Blake realized he was still holding her hand and let go immediately. "Sorry, I didn't realize."

"I know." Shae smiled gently. "Let's go."

That smile left Blake a bit dazed. When did Shae become so charming?

Blake said as they left the hospital, "I'll take you home."

"My car's still at the bar. Take me back there," Shae said.

"It's late. I'm worried about you driving back. Get your car tomorrow. I'll take you home," Blake insisted.

Shae didn't want to argue, so she agreed.

"You live alone, right? Which neighborhood?" Blake asked on the way.

"Just drive. I'll tell you the way," she said, looking out the window.

Blake thought, 'She is beautiful, no less than Nico. Why doesn't Alexander like her? I wonder what it would be like to hold Shae in my arms.'

Shae noticed his gaze and turned to look at him, puzzled. "Blake, what are you looking at?"

Blake snapped out of it and apologized, "Sorry, I haven't seen you in a long time. You've changed a lot. I remember you as a little girl, and now you're a beautiful young woman. It's impressive."

Shae smiled politely. "I'm still the same."

She ignored the greed in his eyes, feeling a cold laugh inside.

Blake asked, "I heard you joined the Whale Group as Alexander's secretary. How's that going? I rarely go to the main office since I'm always at the branch."

Shae frowned slightly. Did he really not know she was fired, or was he pretending? He should be well-informed about the Whale Group.

"Blake, your timing is impeccable. I just got fired," Shae said with a self-deprecating smile, tinged with bitterness.

Blake was surprised. "Did Alexander fire you? That doesn't sound right!"

"I think so too," Shae said, tucking her hair behind her ear, trying to look strong. "It's okay, I'll find another job. I had dinner with Evelyn tonight, hoping she could help, but she said there wasn't anything suitable for me. I don't have any strong professional skills."

"Don't listen to Evelyn. What good job could she offer you?" Blake said. "I'm in charge at the branch. I may not have as much power as Alexander, but I can still get you a job. If you want, you can start tomorrow."

Shae's eyes showed a mix of surprise and cunning. "Blake, what do you mean? Do you want me to work at the branch?"

"As my secretary, would you like that?" Blake asked with a gentlemanly smile.

Shae's face lit up with surprise and joy, but inside she thought, 'You're really letting your desires cloud your judgment.'

"Of course, I'd love to," Shae said, her face flushed with excitement. "Blake, won't this be difficult for you? If Alexander finds out, he might get angry and take it out on you."

Blake comforted, "Don't worry. I have control at the branch. Hiring a secretary is no big deal. It'll be fine."

"So I can start tomorrow?" Shae was overjoyed. "Thank you, Blake!"

Blake remarked, "No need to be so polite. If you need anything, just come to me."

Shae said, "How can I? You've already helped me a lot today."

Both had their own hidden agendas and achieved their respective goals.

The car stopped at Shae's apartment complex. Blake smiled and said, "It's late, so I won't come up. You can invite me another time."

'Brazen,' she thought, 'I haven't said anything!'

"Okay, be careful on your way back. See you tomorrow," Shae said with a faint smile as she got out of the car.

Blake watched her through the rearview mirror, thinking coldly, 'Alexander, you don't want Shae, so don't blame me for using her against you.'

Shae watched the car leave, also smiling coldly, muttering to herself, "I didn't expect that going out for a drink tonight would turn things around with Alexander."

Blake went home with a face full of injuries, scaring Beatrice and Nico.

"Mom, I'm fine. I just got into a fight at the bar. It doesn't hurt anymore. You go to bed," Blake said, pushing her out of the room.

Nico, understanding the situation, sarcastically asked, "Did you really get into a fight, or are you just covering up the injuries on your face?"

"You know the answer," Blake said irritably, looking at Nico sitting on the bed with her big belly, feeling a surge of disgust.

Beatrice knocked on the door again, saying, "You two come out. We need to discuss something."

Nico responded curiously, "What does Mom want to discuss?"

"No idea," Blake said, leaving the room first.

In the living room, Beatrice, wearing glasses, was looking at something. When she saw them, she said, "Your grandfather's birthday is coming up. Have you thought about what gift to give him?"

"Mom, I've got it all planned out," Blake said confidently. "I've been training a parrot recently. It learns to talk quickly and says a few congratulatory phrases fluently. On Grandpa's birthday, I'll bring it to perform for him. He'll be thrilled!"
