Chapter 337 I Still Liked You
The next morning, during breakfast, Leah kept glancing at Lillian, wanting to ask but too afraid to speak.
Lillian shot her a look of defeat. Last night, she had clung to Alexander, trying to get him to agree, but he wouldn't budge. Eventually, she became exhausted and fell asleep first.
Leah sighed in disappointment, thinking if even Lillian couldn't get Alexander to agree, it seemed that pursuing Kevin was a lost cause.
"Ms. Sinclair, is the breakfast not to your liking? What would you like to eat? Tell me tonight, and I'll make it for you tomorrow morning," Noticing Leah hadn't eaten much, Kelly asked.
"Kelly, don't worry about me. I just have something on my mind and no appetite," Leah said, casting a sorrowful glance at Alexander, wanting to plead again but too afraid to speak.
At the table, Alexander said indifferently, "Aren't you going to the company? Hurry up and eat. If you get hungry in the morning, you're not allowed to go out and buy food!"
Leah was stunned and asked in surprise, "Do you agree to let me be your secretary?"
"The probation period is three months; if you're not up to standard, you're out immediately!" Alexander put down his spoon, took a napkin to wipe his mouth, and said sternly, "And change your name to hide your identity. Most importantly..."
"I know, stay away from Kevin," Leah interjected.
"Good. If you don't want him to get fired, behave yourself at the company!" Alexander stood up and said, "You have five minutes to finish your meal; I will be waiting for you in the car."
"Leah, congratulations!" Lillian said happily to Leah as she watched Alexander leave coolly.
"Lillian, thank you," Leah said excitedly.
"I didn't do much. Alexander didn't agree with me last night. Who knows why he suddenly agreed? It seems he still cares about you." Lillian said with a smile.
Leah smiled and said, "I'm done. Off to work!"
Lillian watched her walk out the door with envy in her eyes and heart, resolving to start her career as well. She returned to her room, logged onto the chat software, and found the comic book editor who had contacted her before. Their previous conversation had been brief, but she was very interested and wanted to explore opportunities in the field of comics.
At noon, Kelly came in and handed her a menu, asking, "Mrs. Sinclair, Dr. Evans, and his sister are coming over for dinner tomorrow night. Here's the menu. Can you take a look?"
Lillian remembered Alexander mentioning inviting Steven over for dinner. She carefully reviewed the menu and said, "It's fine. Kelly. You can arrange it."
Her phone buzzed with another message. She waved Kelly off, saying, "Alright, I have to get busy now. Please do not disturb me."
Kelly smiled and asked, "What are you up to now?"
Lucy White, a fan of Lillian from the forum, was employed as a comic book editor at Imaginarium Ink, which was a well-known company in the comic industry, recognized by anyone with even a passing interest in anime. Finding it inconvenient to chat online, they switched to a voice call. She admired Lillian's comic style and wanted to sign her on.
Lillian was somewhat familiar with Imaginarium Ink, having previously followed forums in the comic industry where the company's reputation was highly regarded. She was also interested in giving it a try.
"Princess Seven, if you do not wish to continue the serialization of your comic series with your husband on the forum, you may submit new artwork to me. Alternatively, we have pre-written stories that you could illustrate. Which option do you prefer?" Lucy asked politely.
Lillian asked, "Any story genre?"
"Yes. Imaginarium Ink's hallmark is its diversity." Lucy said.
"Alright, I'll come up with a new story and submit it to you," Lillian said.
"I'm looking forward to it," Lucy said.
After hanging up, Lillian shouted in excitement, feeling a surge of motivation.
At a restaurant, Evelyn arrived fashionably late and, after taking a seat and sipping her tea, asked Caspian opposite her, "What was so important that you had to call me out for dinner?"
Caspian refilled her cup and said leisurely, "Nothing much. It's been a while since we had a meal together."
Evelyn gave a wry smile. "As it happens, Amos is away on a business trip today, which is the only reason I could make it. Otherwise, you wouldn't have succeeded in getting me out."
Since they broke off their engagement, Evelyn no longer treated Caspian with hostility. This might be directly related to the fact that she now had a boyfriend. All in all, their relationship now truly felt like that of friends.
"Where did he go? Is his company doing well?" Caspian asked.
At this moment, the waiter brought the dishes Caspian had ordered, all of Evelyn's favorites. She was hungry and started eating, saying, "I assisted him in acquiring some resources, and the company is now on the right track. This time, he's traveling to Elmrest for a business negotiation."
Caspian silently sipped his tea, feeling a mix of emotions about Evelyn's ignorance of Amos's actions. "How's your father? Does he approve of you being together?"
Evelyn looked up at him and asked, "Why are you asking about that?"
"Nothing much. I saw him at a party the other day. He seemed dissatisfied with your boyfriend and had many complaints." Caspian explained.
Evelyn scoffed, "My father isn't satisfied with anyone except you. But he's never said anything bad about my boyfriend to me. What did he say?"
"Are you sure you want to know?" Caspian asked leisurely.
"Go ahead. Let's see if it matches what I think," Evelyn joked.
Caspian raised an eyebrow and said, "Your father said he has bad intentions. You should be careful."
Evelyn's expression changed, and she said unhappily, "That's too much. How does Amos have bad intentions?"
"Your father is a good judge of character. He's been in business for decades and has seen all kinds of people. Do you think Amos can hide his intentions from your father?" Caspian said.
"Did my father ask you to tell me this?" Evelyn asked with an unpleasing look.
"No, I just wanted to give you a heads-up," Caspian said with a self-deprecating smile. "Alright, I'll stop, or you'll get annoyed. Let's eat."
Evelyn smiled faintly. "Caspian, I've noticed that you seem different now compared to before. Is it just my imagination? You seem more grounded."
"I've always been grounded. You just didn't notice before." Caspian said.
"I don't think so. Is it because of Wendy? You are so close now. Do you like her?" Evelyn asked casually.
Caspian looked at her with complex eyes and said, "No, you know I still like you!"
