Chapter 330 He Was A Douchebag
On the sofa in the living room, Amos held Evelyn tightly, weeping bitterly as he lamented, "Evelyn, starting a business is so hard! Even with your assistance in networking for the company, we're still struggling to make progress. The pressure on me is immense."
Evelyn comforted him, saying, "Amos, starting a business is never easy. I also took it one step at a time back then. Take it slow, things will get better."
Since being with Evelyn, this was the first time Amos showed his vulnerability at work in front of her. It seemed the company's development was indeed not as good as expected.
"I know," Amos said, calming down a bit. "I'm anxious because I want to give you happiness!"
"I'm quite happy now. Just focus on your work, and I'll do my best to help you," Evelyn said, then asked in confusion, "What's wrong with the company? Tell me, and I'll help you analyze it."
Amos leaned on her shoulder, not answering, as if he hadn't heard her.
"Amos?" Evelyn gently moved her shoulder and called him.
Amos, as if talking to himself, mumbled, "Yes, I need to manage the company well and show results to Evelyn."
Evelyn looked down at him upon hearing these words. She felt quite gratified that he had such sentiments.
Amos squinted at the smile on Evelyn's lips, his heart filled with cold disdain.
After dinner, everyone went back to their rooms to rest.
Wendy and Angela shared a room. After washing up, they lay on the bed, chatting idly.
Suddenly, a message popped up in the group chat. It was from Tom: [Wendy, are you there? Caspian is asking for the grape-flavored popsicle you make. Could you make one for him now?]
After reading the message, Wendy replied: [I got it.] With that, she quickly got out of bed.
Angela called her, "Aren't you going to sleep? That popsicle will take you at least ten or twenty minutes to make, right?"
"But Caspian wants to eat it," Wendy said softly.
Angela rolled her eyes at her, annoyed. "Caspian is already quite drunk; just grab anyone for him."
"You're right; I'm so silly," Wendy said, knocking her head a few times.
Angela said with a double meaning, "I think you are silly!"
It seemed impossible to make Wendy give up on Caspian.
Wendy went to the kitchen and found that there were indeed popsicles in the fridge. She picked out two fruit-flavored ones and was about to leave. As soon as she turned around, she was startled by Amos standing behind her, dropping the popsicles to the ground.
"When did you arrive? How is it that you made no noise at all?" Wendy said, her face pale with fright and anger.
Amos's eyes were full of indifference, but he had a slight smile on his lips. "I'm very sorry for scaring you."
Wendy squatted down to pick up the popsicles, looking up at him in confusion; Amos didn't seem drunk at all, completely different from earlier. She stood up and said, "It's okay. You go ahead and I need to take these to Mr. Wade." With that, she was about to leave when Amos moved to block her way. "What are you doing?"
"Nothing. I just want to chat with you," Amos said with a malicious smile.
Wendy knew what he wanted to talk about and said bluntly, "Mr. Dalton, I am uncertain what there is for us to discuss. If you believe I overheard your last two phone calls, you are mistaken. I was merely passing by and did not hear anything. You need not worry."
"It was just two ordinary phone calls. Even if you did hear them, there's nothing for me to be concerned about," Amos chuckled, his eyes gleaming with a hint of danger. He looked at her and asked, "Or is it that you overheard the conversations and realized they were not trivial matters? Is that why you're worried I might be concerned about you divulging anything, am I right?"
Wendy looked at him in shock. "I was just saying, to let you know I didn't hear anything. That's all," She said, not wanting to continue the conversation and feeling scared to be alone with him, and tried to leave.
As she passed by, Amos grabbed her arm, leaned down slightly, and whispered in her ear, "I don't care if you tell others, nor do I care about your relationship with Caspian. I simply want to advise you to mind your own business. If you cause Evelyn and me to break up, just imagine how I might seek revenge on you."
Wendy looked at him in shock, thinking, 'He is so arrogant. If I tell Caspian about it, given his status in Rihegde, dealing with Amos would be as effortless as crushing an ant, right? Does Amos have more powerful backers, rendering him indifferent to Caspian?'
"Are you wondering if I'm afraid of Caspian?" Amos sneered, "When someone is cornered, does he still know what fear is? You have no idea what's going on, so don't stick your nose into this mess, got it?"
Wendy frowned deeply, not understanding what he meant. Suddenly, her phone in her pajama pocket buzzed; it was probably from Tom to urge her.
Amos let go of her arm and said, "Go ahead and take the popsicle to your lover."
Hearing this, Wendy was stunned.
"Wendy, one last piece of advice: Caspian is a douchebag. Don't ruin your life for him." Amos said.
Wendy asked in confusion, "Why do you say he's a douchebag?"
Amos said contemptuously, "Do you think he's infatuated with Evelyn? If so, you're being incredibly naive." After saying that, he left the kitchen, leaving Wendy bewildered.
When Wendy got to Caspian's room, Tom looked at her with eyes sparkled. "Wendy, you're finally here. Alright, you take care of him. I'm going back to sleep."
Wendy wanted to call Tom back but saw him leave quickly.
Caspian was lying on the bed, not yet asleep, mumbling something indistinctly.
Wendy asked, "Caspian, do you still want the popsicle? I brought it for you."
Hearing this, Caspian stopped mumbling, paused for a moment, and suddenly opened his mouth.
"What are you doing?" Wendy asked, amused.
Caspian, with his eyes closed, said, "Hurry up and put the popsicle in my mouth."
'Idiot!' Wendy cursed him in her heart and shoved the popsicle into his mouth.
