Chapter 332 Caspian Was Here

Upon entering the city, Marcus drove towards Wendy's house. On the way, Patrick called Wendy to ask if she would be coming back today.

The car stopped downstairs, and Wendy said, "Thanks for driving me back. Bye."

"Go ahead." Caspian smiled at her as she got out of the car.

"Wendy, did your boyfriend drive you back?" Curtis shouted from his second-floor window.

Wendy stopped and looked up. "Curtis, didn't you take a nap?"

"I just woke up," Curtis replied, then saw Patrick walking over and shouted, "Patrick, you know Wendy's boyfriend is coming over, and you went out of your way to buy fish and meat. You're doing well as a father-in-law."

Wendy turned around and saw Patrick carrying several bags filled with food. "Dad," she called out, walking over to take the bags from him.

Patrick looked up at Curtis, about to speak, when another neighbor from the second-floor balcony chimed in, "Curtis, what are you saying? I've seen Wendy's boyfriend too. He's quite the catch, handsome and impressive. Who wouldn't like such an excellent son-in-law?"

Caspian's car was still parked there, not yet driven away. The neighbor noticed and said to Patrick, "Patrick, your son-in-law is still in the car. Why not invite him in too?"

Not wanting to give the neighbors more to gossip about, Patrick said to Wendy, "Why hasn't Caspian come down yet? Invite him in."

"Okay," Wendy was naturally aware of Patrick's intentions. These neighbors loved to gossip, and if they had found out that Caspian was not her boyfriend, they would undoubtedly have delighted in spreading rumors behind her back. She opened the car door and said to Caspian, "Come on down. My dad invited you in."

Having heard the neighbors' comments, Caspian didn't refuse. He got out of the car with the help of his crutch.

"My leg is injured, so I was a bit slow," Caspian said, feeling the neighbors' curious gazes. He looked up and greeted Curtis, "Curtis, long time no see."

Curtis nodded and boasted, "Come by often. I've sung your praises to Patrick quite a bit!"

Patrick lowered his voice and said to Caspian, "Don't get cocky. Home on in."

Hearing the door open, Jessica came out of the kitchen. "Why did you only buy a few groceries—" she stopped mid-sentence when she saw Caspian standing at the door. "What are you doing here?" she asked, eyes widening in surprise, before shooting a glance at Wendy.

Hearing the commotion, Molly ran out of the room. Seeing Caspian, it excitedly ran circles around his legs.

Wendy ignored Jessica and helped Caspian to the sofa.

Patrick took the groceries to the kitchen and explained to Jessica, "Curtis saw them coming back, so I invited them in."

"Why is he limping?" Jessica asked curiously.

"Not sure; it looks like it's been a while," Patrick glanced towards the living room.

Wendy and Caspian hadn't told her parents about her car accident, and they hadn't suspected anything.

"Wendy, come help in the kitchen," Jessica called.

Seeing Caspian playing with Molly, Wendy teased, "It seems Molly is the only one in the family who genuinely likes you."

"Don't you like me too? My girlfriend," Caspian teased with a smile.

Wendy knew it was just a joke, but she couldn't control her racing heart, and her cheeks flushed a deep crimson.

In the kitchen, Jessica started scolding Wendy before she could speak. "I asked you to come back, not bring him with you. Are you trying to defy me? You don't listen to us anymore and moved out, and now you're just trying to upset us! You don't want to go on blind dates, just want to be with him, right?"

Wendy rolled her eyes while washing vegetables, feeling her rebellious side emerging. "Mom, stop setting me up on blind dates. The neighbors all know I'm dating Caspian. If you keep setting me up, won't they laugh at you, saying your daughter has a boyfriend but still goes on blind dates?"

"The neighbors all know?" Jessica asked in disbelief.

Wendy sneered, "Curtis has known for a while, didn't you know? With him around, the neighbors must have known for a long time. He even watched us come in from his balcony just now."

Jessica angrily slammed a cucumber. "Mind their own business. Why always focus on our family's affairs?"

Wendy finished washing the vegetables and, not wanting to hear more nagging, returned to the living room. Unable to understand Jessica's actions, she voiced her confusion to Caspian.

"It's simple. In their eyes, you've always been obedient, sensible, and honest. When you first told them I was your boyfriend, they believed you completely. Your later denial was seen as a 'tactic.' Setting you up on blind dates is just a way to break us up. When you mentioned Curtis knowing about our relationship, your mom probably crossed that tactic off her list," Caspian explained.

Wendy nodded in agreement, then asked, "Do you think my mom will eventually accept us being together?"

"I couldn't see through your dad's thoughts. " Caspian said. "His attitude has improved with each call. Your mom is harder to read."

"But what if they agree? Are we supposed to pretend to be in a real relationship?" Wendy asked, bracing herself.

Upon hearing this, Caspian turned to look at her, his eyes filled with complexity. After a moment, he gave a mischievous smile and asked, "Do you want to be with me?"

Wendy blushed, feeling both embarrassed and a bit angry at his teasing. "Don't get me wrong, I'm just planning to avoid scrambling for a solution when the time comes!" she explained, trying to keep a straight face.

Caspian said, "We'll see when the time comes. Who knows; you might find someone you like soon and dump me."

Seeing his nonchalant attitude, Wendy felt a pang of sadness, unsure if he was pretending or genuinely indifferent.
