Chapter 171 The Dinner Party
Wendy smiled, waved her hand, and said, "Why talk about work now?" But she couldn't help diving into work talk with Evelyn.
Lillian and Angela sat nearby, chatting quietly.
"Are you staying home until the baby comes? It might be tough to get back into work later," Angela said, concerned.
Seeing Wendy deep in conversation with Evelyn, Lillian felt a bit envious.
"I'm bored at home every day. But Alexander won't let me work, worried something might happen, and I didn't push it," Lillian said.
Angela replied, "It's nice he cares, but think about yourself too. He's amazing, but are you okay doing nothing? He might start resenting you."
"I don't care if he resents me. If he does, we can divorce. I just don't want to waste time at home. I read online that working until seven or eight months is fine," Lillian said seriously. "I should talk to him. Seeing you all work makes me envious."
Angela nodded. "I support you. But don't push too hard. If you feel any discomfort, stop and rest."
Lillian responded, "I need to figure out how to convince him."
"How are things between you two? Getting closer?" Angela asked teasingly.
Lillian smiled shyly, "We have gotten closer."
She asked, a bit uncertain. "But he hasn't confessed to me, and it feels off. Is that normal?" she wondered.
"I wouldn't worry. If it bothers you, give him a hint," Angela suggested, though unsure.
"How do I hint?" Lillian asked, clueless about relationships.
Suddenly, Shae walked over, smiling. "I was wondering where you were," she said to Evelyn.
Lillian looked up, frowned slightly, then exchanged a glance with Angela.
Evelyn asked, "Done playing cards?"
"Theodore went to the game room, so I joined him," Shae said, sitting next to Evelyn, opposite Lillian.
"Ms. Hill," she said to Lillian with a fake smile. "Long time no see. How have you been?"
"Not bad," Lillian said flatly. Sensing Shae's bad intentions, she told Angela, "I'm tired. I'm going upstairs to rest. Chat later."
Shae said, "Ms. Hill, why leave when I just got here? I wanted to chat."
"You can chat with Evelyn. Excuse me," Lillian said, then left the room.
Angela glanced at Shae and stood up, "Excuse me too."
Seeing her friends leave, Wendy didn't want to stay either. She told Evelyn, "Chat with your friend. I'll check on Lillian," and followed Angela out.
Shae sneered. "Good riddance. Evelyn, let's talk."
Evelyn sighed. "Shae, you need to explain yourself to Alexander. What you did was really out of line."
Shae just munched on cookies, not saying a word.
Upstairs, Lillian, Angela, and Wendy returned to the room, sat on the bed, and chatted until they gradually fell asleep.
Angela, sleeping on the edge, woke up to a tickle on her nose. She rubbed her nose and slowly opened her eyes to see Tom close by.
"What are you doing?" she asked calmly, without the usual startled scream.
Tom smiled. "Angela, it's time for dinner."
"What time is it?" Angela asked, surprised at how long she had slept.
She saw Lillian and Wendy still sleeping and patted them. "Wake up, it's dinner time."
Tom smiled and said, "Angela, I remember you love pizza, right? I had the chef make it especially for you. Eat up."
Angela looked at him coldly. "You remembered wrong. I don't like it, but Lillian does."
Lillian rubbed her eyes, yawned, and said, "I'm hungry after that nap."
"Let's eat," she said, nudging Wendy.
Downstairs, the dining table was filled with dishes. Luke was seated, and Alexander guided Lillian to sit next to him. Angela sat casually between Theodore on her left and Tom on her right, wondering why she was between two guys. She glanced at Wendy, who was sitting next to Evelyn, with the Nicos on the other side. She noticed Shae between Caspian and Alexander and sneered internally.
Alexander started with a few words, then everyone began eating.
He placed a steak in front of Lillian and asked, "Where were you this afternoon? Did you sleep in the room?"
"Yeah, I was sleeping with Angela and Wendy. What about you? Why were you in the study?" she asked while eating.
"I didn't do much. After giving Luke a bath, I stayed with him," Alexander said.
Shae placed some of Alexander's favorite food in front of him. "Alexander, I remember you love pasta."
Alexander turned to her. "Don't worry about me. Just eat your food."
Caspian, being lively, couldn't stay quiet. Tom joined in, chatting and joking, keeping the atmosphere lively with drinks flowing.
Seeing Alexander drink a lot, Lillian said worriedly, "Drink less."
"It's okay. I'm happy today, I won't overdo it," Alexander reassured her.
Shae chimed in, "Ms. Hill, it's rare for them to get together. Let them enjoy. Saying that is a bit of a buzzkill, isn't it?"
Alexander glanced at her disdainfully. "Shae, switch seats with Caspian. You're in the way sitting in the middle."
