Chapter 67 Unworthy of Being a Mother
Alexander brought Lillian and Luke to the Hyatt Hotel.
"Oh, you all came?" Caspian smiled. "Alexander, are you ready to send Luke back?"
Luke saw Jackson and Nico, but instead of going over, he sat with Lillian.
"You must be Lillian. I'm Luke's mom, Nico. Thank you for taking care of him during this time," Nico smiled and thanked her.
"You're welcome. Luke is a good boy," Lillian lowered her head and said to Luke, "Your mom and dad are back. You should go sit with them."
"I don't want to. I want to sit between you and Uncle Alexander." Luke rejected.
Nico calmly said, "It's okay if he likes sitting there."
Lillian smiled and thought, 'Are they still mother and son? After being apart for so long, neither Luke nor his parents seem excited. They act like strangers. Luke's behavior is understandable, but does Nico really not care at all? Is she so heartless as a mother?'
Alexander called a waiter to bring the food.
Caspian sat next to Lillian and asked in a low voice, "Lillian, has Evelyn contacted you recently?"
"We chat on WhatsApp every day," Lillian replied.
"Really?" Caspian pursed his lips, raised his hand to scratch his eyebrow, and muttered to himself, "She never contacts me."
Lillian lightly laughed and said, "You can reach out to her."
"She's too busy. I never had a chance to meet her. And I can't find her either," Caspian said, somewhat angry.
"Lillian, I want to eat this," Luke said, pointing at the newly served dish.
"Alright, let me help you," Lillian said, picking up a fork and putting some food on his plate.
Turning her head, she said to Caspian, "I don't know much about the two of you. All I know is that you are engaged, and you want to marry her, but she doesn't want to. Every time you meet, there will be conflicts. Mr. Wade, maybe Evelyn is not the one destined for you. If I'm wrong, don't mind me. Just forget it."
Caspian frowned. He understood what Lillian meant and asked, "What did Evelyn tell you?"
"Nothing, she really didn't tell me anything!" Lillian nervously replied, "We haven't known each other for long. Usually, we chat about fashion, skincare, and celebrities. We don't discuss personal matters."
"Really?" Caspian squinted at her, clearly not believing her.
"Of course, I'm not lying to you," Lillian said, "I'm just expressing my opinion. Don't take it seriously."
Caspian breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Lillian, you cannot understand how I feel."
Lillian patted his shoulder and comforted him, "Let's have a drink. Don't be sad!"
During the meal, while taking care of Luke, Lillian also observed Jackson and Nico. She thought to herself, 'They've been drinking and chatting the whole time, completely ignoring Luke. They don't seem like his biological parents at all.'
Luke sat between her and Alexander, sometimes talking to her, sometimes leaning on Alexander's lap. To outsiders, they looked like a family.
Lillian felt angry and thought, 'How could they treat their child like this?'
Midway through the meal, Nico got up and left the private room. Lillian followed her, and they went to the restroom together.
Lillian said, "Nico, there's something I want to talk to you about."
"Go ahead," Nico wiped her hands and casually replied.
Lillian asked, "Are you and Mr. Crawford going on another trip after this time?"
"Of course, we'll leave after Christmas," Nico apologized with a smile, "It will be a hassle, but we'll have to rely on you and Mr. Sinclair to take care of Luke."
"We have no complaints about taking care of Luke. But you and Mr. Crawford are Luke's parents. Always leaving him at friends' houses will cause him emotional harm. I heard from Alexander that Luke even has to see a therapist. You are Luke's mother, and you shouldn't hurt your child for your desires." Lillian said solemnly.
Nico nodded and said, "Lillian, you're right, but my husband and I are also helpless. Luke and I are not close. He likes Alexander, so let him grow up with him. As for his psychological issues, I believe you and Alexander will give him the same love. He will be fine."
"What are you talking about? You're Luke's biological mother!" Lillian reminded.
"I don't deserve to be Luke's mother," Nico said helplessly. "Lillian, there's something you don't know. I trust that you'll take good care of him. Thank you in advance." After Nico finished speaking, she returned to the private room.
Lillian felt a bit sad, thinking, 'So it's true that some parents abandon their children! Did my mom also abandon me and Oscar like this when we were younger? She was leaving me at Harry's house enough to keep me from starvation. How can people like that be parents!'
She adjusted her emotions and returned to the private room. Sitting in her seat, she no longer looked at Nico across from her instead, she lowered her head and started playing with her phone.
Caspian, who was drunk, leaned in and said, "Lillian, come on, let's exchange WhatsApp contacts. If anything is happening with Evelyn, let me know in time, and I'll repay you."
Lillian found it amusing and told him the phone number. "But I might disappoint you," she said.
"No, I have faith in you!" Caspian drunkenly said. He added her to a chat group.
"What kind of group is this?" Lillian read the group name aloud, "The Handsomes."
"It's just a group for us friends, no outsiders," Caspian said, putting his phone aside and picking up his glass again.
"Lillian, you've joined the group!" The first person to greet her was Tom, whom she had never spoken to since adding Tom's WhatsApp account.
"Hey," Lillian replied briefly.
"Lillian, after adding you as a friend last time, I don't know what happened, but you weren't on my friend list. Well, I'll add you again now." Tom replied.
"Lillian, have something to eat. Don't just play with your phone," Theodore said in the chat group.
Lillian looked up at him and smiled happily.
She checked the group members and recognized all of them, but she didn't see Alexander in the group, and she felt curious.
"Mr. Wade, why isn't Mr. Sinclair in the group?" she quietly asked.
Caspian laughed. "Lillian, look at the group name. Mr. Sinclair isn't handsome enough, so of course, he's not in the group."
Lillian secretly laughed, thinking, 'What? Isn't Alexander handsome enough? But it would be better that he's not in this group so that I won't feel awkward.'
Their gathering lasted for over three hours. Luke fell asleep on the couch. Lillian stayed by his side, closing her eyes.
"Jackson, mind your own business. What's wrong with my drinking etiquette? Am I drunk? Don't judge me!"
Lillian opened her eyes and realized Caspian had been drunk.
