Chapter 56 Aunt Lisa Arrived
Kelly took off her glasses, sitting up with curiosity, "Didn't you two go to the amusement park? How did you finish so quickly?"
"The park was crowded, and there were kids with colds. I was afraid Lucas would catch something, so we left," Lillian admitted sheepishly.
"You could have gone home. Don't you know hospitals have even more germs?" Kelly chided.
"Lucas didn't want to go home. At home, he'd have to study. He suggested coming here, and since it's dull at home, we decided to keep you company instead," Lillian explained.
Kelly laughed, "Well, I'm happy you're here to keep me company."
Lillian handed her phone to Lucas to keep him occupied and settled in to chat with Kelly.
"Although this hospital isn't big, it's busy every day. I remember you once called it a clinic, and I was curious when it became a hospital," Kelly remarked.
Lillian replied, "It grew from a clinic to a hospital over time. We've always called it a clinic since our school days, even after it expanded. The patients come because of the hospital's good reputation or through referrals, so it always gets busier."
Kelly nodded appreciatively, "Dr. Turner is truly excellent. Lillian, I still have to thank you for introducing us to such a good doctor."
"Kelly, you don't need to thank me. I just made an introduction."
As Lillian and Kelly chatted, Doris called, and Lucas stepped out to tell Lillian to take the call.
"I've taken care of it," Doris announced, "The mall has compensated us a thousand dollars. Where are you guys?"
Surprised, Lillian covered the phone's mouthpiece and whispered, "You're amazing! Lucas and I are at Turner Hospital, waiting to get medicine."
"I'll come over now," Doris said.
As soon as they ended the call, another video call came in.
"Lillian, it's Kevin!" Lucas called out nervously.
"Calm down." Lillian sat next to Lucas with a straight back and answered the phone.
"Mr. Martin." She was composed, asking, "What's the matter?"
On the video call, Kevin nodded at Lillian, stepped aside, and revealed Alexander's indifferent face.
"Alexander," Lucas couldn't help but call out to him.
Alexander looked at Lillian and Lucas and asked, "You two aren't home, where did you go?"
"Ah?" Lillian was startled, stammering, "You-you're back?"
"I'm the one asking questions right now, not you!" Alexander said with a low voice, "Answer me!"
"I brought Lucas to see Quentin, we're in his hospital room now."
"The temperature's been low these past few days, there's a lot of sick people. After you've visited Quentin, head back home," Alexander instructed, looking at Lillian.
Then, with a softer gaze and a faint smile directed at Lucas, he asked, "Did you miss me?"
Lucas nodded obediently, "Alexander, when are you coming back?"
"In a few more days," Alexander said, "I've bought gifts for you."
"Thank you, Alexander!" Lucas, hearing about the gifts, danced around with joy, but Lillian quickly stopped him before he could get too excited.
"Alexander, did you buy a gift for Lillian too?" Lucas asked earnestly.
Alexander glanced at Lillian involuntarily, not wanting to disappoint Lucas, he said, "I did buy something for her too."
"That's awesome, Alexander! Come back soon!" Lucas said with an impatient look.
Lillian quietly pinched Lucas, and although it didn't hurt, he exaggeratedly shouted, "Lillian, why did you pinch me?"
"I didn't pinch you, I just accidentally touched you," Lillian said irritated, thinking she'd have to scold Lucas later.
Alexander looked at Lillian with disdain, chuckled coldly, and said, "Head back early later."
"Goodbye, Alexander!"
"Goodbye, Mr. Sinclair."
After hanging up the phone, Alexander leaned back, crossed his arms, and asked Kevin, "Mr. Dawson's taken ill suddenly, we didn't get to properly discuss everything. What did the doctor say?"
"The doctor says Mr. Dawson isn't fit for visitors right now, he needs to rest," Kevin replied, "Mr. Sinclair, I'm afraid our trip was in vain."
"How could it be a wasted trip?" Alexander said with a faint smile, "We still gained something."
"Kevin, book the return flight for tomorrow."
"Right away, Mr. Sinclair."
That afternoon, after leaving the hospital, Doris drove Lillian and Lucas back home.
"Lillian, I'm so sorry. I wanted to give you a break, but instead, Lucas got hurt. I'll explain it to Alexander when he gets back."
Seeing Doris so candid made Lillian like her even more.
"I hope Alexander comes back later. By then, Lucas's arm should be healed. You meant well by taking us out, and I should be thanking you for bringing me clothes."
"Right, I’ve transferred the thousand dollars to you for Lucas's medical bills and emotional distress."
"Okay. I'll use it to buy Lucas some treats."
Doris also reminded her, "Don't let Alice find out Lucas got hurt. She's from the Sincliair old mansion, and it would be bad if Samantha found out. Make sure she doesn't see you when giving Lucas his medicine."
"Got it."
Lillian, helping Lucas out of the car, said to Doris, "Drive safely, we'll keep in touch by phone."
The evening went smoothly. Alice didn't seem to notice anything was amiss, or perhaps she didn't want to ask too many questions. After finishing her own work, she returned to the nanny’s room.
Lillian felt a bit relieved seeing Alice's demeanor. Before bedtime, she secretly prepared medicine in the kitchen for Lucas, coaxing him to drink it.
Back in their room, Lucas, licking his lips, complained, "That's so bitter."
"Effective medicine is always bitter. Hang in there!" After making sure Lucas was comfortable in bed, Lillian added, "Sleep on your side and don't put pressure on your arm."
"Okay. Goodnight, Lillian."
"Goodnight."
Another day came to a close. Lillian, watching Lucas sleep soundly beside her, prayed for his swift recovery. She regretted going shopping; maybe if they hadn't, Lucas wouldn't have been hurt.
Sighing over the unchangeable past, she thought, Alexander, please stay away a little longer before returning.
Suddenly, Alexander sneezed sharply, sniffing as he continued working. Hearing the sneeze, Kevin reached for the remote and adjusted the temperature of the air conditioning.
The next day, before Lillian had even gotten out of bed, Alice came knocking on the door and softly said, "Mrs. Sinclair, there's a visitor. She says she's your uncle's wife."
"Huh? Who's here?" Lillian mumbled, still half asleep.
"Your uncle's wife,” Alice repeated.
"Why is she here this early?" Lillian quickly sat up, her brow furrowed deeply, feeling very nauseous.
After Alice left, Lillian freshened up, changed her clothes, and came out of the bedroom.
In the living room, Lisa was holding a coffee cup and looking around the lavish house, constantly exclaiming, "This is really a rich person's place, I'll never live in such a big house in my lifetime!"
