Chapter 316 The Role of the Recording

Amos wasn't annoyed by the remark and said with a smile, "Mr. Wade, I'm just concerned about you, so I came to check on you."

Caspian smiled but said nothing.

Evelyn asked, "What happened? It looks pretty serious."

Wendy, standing nearby, said, "It was right after we left Lillian's house that day. I drove into the landscaping."

"I was wondering why you had a bandage on your forehead, but you wouldn't say," Evelyn chided her. "As long as you're okay, just be more careful when driving."

Caspian gave Amos a dirty look, then turned to Evelyn and asked, "How did you know? Did my friend tell you?"

"Yes, he called me this afternoon and described you as being in a terrible state, with broken arms and legs and a disfigured face. I had to come and see you," Evelyn said, glancing at his elevated leg. "The injury isn't too bad, not very serious."

"Does it have to be broken arms and legs to be serious?" Caspian looked at the two of them and said, "Alright, I appreciate your concern. You can go now."

Amos affectionately put his arm around Evelyn's shoulder and said, "Mr. Wade needs to rest now, so let's not disturb him."

Evelyn nodded and said to Caspian, "Take care and get well soon. We're leaving now."

"Ms. Phillips, I'll walk you out," Wendy quickly said.

Caspian watched coldly as they left the room. This visit was more of a nuisance than anything else, making him feel even more frustrated.

Wendy returned after seeing them to the elevator. Seeing Caspian's sullen face, she teased, "Ms. Phillips came to see you, so why the long face?"

She smiled lightly, but inside, she felt a heavy weight on her heart.

Caspian didn't want to talk more, closed his eyes, and waved her off, saying, "You should go too."

Wendy saw that it was almost nine o'clock, and if she stayed any later, the nurse would come to chase her out. She bent down to pick up her bag and said, "Alright, I'm leaving. I'll come see you tomorrow."

"If you're not working late, go home and rest early. If you don't want to go home, visit your mom. Don't let them think I’m the one keeping you away," Caspian said, opening his eyes with a look of disdain, "What's so great about this hospital? Why do you keep coming here? I'm just recovering from an injury; I'll be out in a few days. There is no need to worry."

Well, the hospital might not be great, but Caspian was here, and that was good enough for her.

Feeling a bit embarrassed and annoyed by his words, Wendy slung her bag over her shoulder and said, "Fine, I won't come tomorrow. No need to keep repeating yourself. Let me know when you're discharged."

She straightened her back stubbornly and left, running into Marcus, who had just finished his cigarette outside.

"Wendy, are you heading back now?"

"Yes," she replied sullenly, closing the door behind her.

Marcus asked in confusion, "Mr. Wade, Wendy seemed upset?"

"Maybe it's that time of the month," Caspian chuckled and lay down.

At Beatrice's house.

In the evening, the family of three was watching TV. Ethan was engrossed, and Beatrice was just watching for fun.

Blake sat with his arms crossed, deep in thought. He couldn't wait to share the news with Beatrice, knowing she would be thrilled and proud of him. The thought made him smile smugly.

"Blake, if you don't want to watch, go to bed. You have work tomorrow," Beatrice said, putting down her phone and taking off her glasses.

"Mom, I'm not sleepy," Blake replied, playing with his phone.

Ethan gave him a puzzled look and said, "Usually, you don't want to watch TV with us. What's up today? Sitting here quietly until we're done. Did you get into trouble and are waiting to tell us?"

Blake looked up and said helplessly, "Dad, I'm either at home or at Harmony Jewelry every day. What trouble could I cause? Can you stop thinking of me that way?"

"Yes, honey, Blake is at the store every day. What trouble could he cause? I think he's just too idle and has become dull," Beatrice said, hinting at something.

Ethan understood her implication and said, "For now, just focus on honing your skills at Harmony Jewelry. If you manage it well, that's an achievement too."

"Mom, did you hear that? My father just doesn't believe in me!" Blake complained.

Beatrice patted Blake to comfort him and said, "Your father is putting you through this to toughen you up so that you can achieve great things in the future."

Beatrice knew how to speak without offending anyone.

When the TV show ended, Beatrice turned off the TV and said, "Time for bed."

"Okay," Blake said, standing up and giving Beatrice a meaningful look.

Beatrice accompanied Ethan to their room and came out quietly after about twenty minutes.

"What's so secretive that your father can't know?" Beatrice asked, sitting on a high stool.

Blake poured her a glass of wine and said with a sly smile, "Mom, you have to praise me this time. Your days of triumph are coming."

"What is it? Look at how happy you are," Beatrice said, downing the wine in one gulp.

She didn't have high expectations for Blake anymore; she just wanted Ethan to favor her.

"Mom, let me play you an interesting recording," Blake said, placing his phone on the table and playing a recording.

Amidst the noise, Amy's voice came through. The more Beatrice listened, the more shocked she became. Her eyes widened, and her mouth opened slightly in shock and disbelief.

"Mom, what do you think? Is this enough to bring down Samantha?" Blake asked, putting away his phone with a smug look.

Beatrice took a while to recover and asked, "Blake, where did you get this?"

Blake smiled and explained the whole story to her. "Mom, don't you think this is a blessing from God, giving us a chance to turn things around?"

"Blake, keep this safe. It's very useful!" Beatrice said, smiling confidently with a scheming look in her eyes.

Time flew by, and another two weeks passed.

Caspian was discharged and recovering at home. Oscar's surgery was scheduled for the following Monday. Emily finally convinced Michael to move to Tranquil Haven Estates.

On a moving day, Emily went to the Sinclair family and said to Oscar, "Oscar, we'll be neighbors from now on. I'll take care of you during your surgery next week."

Lillian, who was sitting nearby and snacking, paused and slowly turned to look at Oscar.

Oscar had been anxious and nervous about the surgery for the past few days. Hearing this, he impatiently said, "You're not even related to me. Why would I need you to take care of me? Don't come and cause trouble!"
