Chapter 221 Poor Oscar
After accompanying Alexander to the company last time, Lillian had returned to her usual stay-at-home routine.
She complained to Alexander about how dull it was being stuck at home all day, so he signed her up for a prenatal class. It did the trick, and Lillian felt more fulfilled with her daily classes.
"Honey, my belly's way bigger than other pregnant women at this stage," Lillian said during dinner, gesturing with her hands.
"Lillian, Kelly said you have two babies in there, so it should be bigger, right?" Luke asked seriously.
Lillian smiled, "Yep, two boys."
Alexander served her some food and asked, "Are you tired from the classes? Don't push yourself too hard. If you feel uncomfortable, take a break, okay?"
Lillian replied, "I'm not tired at all. After the lesson, we just sit and chat."
"What do you talk about?" Alexander asked.
Lillian replied, "Mostly about life's little things and griping about their husbands."
"Lillian, can you relate to them? You don't have those worries," Oscar asked curiously.
Lillian smiled proudly, "Yeah, they're very curious about me. They ask why my bodyguards change every day and if it's a shift system. They even rate which bodyguard is the most handsome."
"Is David the most handsome?" Luke asked.
"Yep, they were so bored they held a vote, and David won," Lillian said, laughing.
She continued, "They also ask if I get along with Samantha, saying rich people like her are usually domineering. They wonder if my husband has a mistress, thinking CEOs often cheat."
Alexander's face turned grim. "What kind of questions are these? Kevin told me he found a high-quality prenatal class, but why are they so gossipy? What do their husbands do?"
Lillian shrank back, realizing she might have said too much. She used to be in a high-end class where people talked about luxury, which she found boring. So, she asked to switch classes.
She told Alexander the truth, "I didn't tell you because I thought you wouldn't agree. I'm very happy in this class and get along well with everyone."
Alexander said, "As long as you're happy, you can go to whichever class you like. Just don't take their words to heart and don't let them affect you."
"Don't worry, I won't be easily influenced. At first, I was afraid they'd exclude me, but they didn't. They're all very friendly," Lillian said. "Today, one of the women brought homemade cookies, and they were delicious. In the previous class, they would've looked down on that."
She added, "I plan to ask Kelly to bake some cookies and bread tonight so I can share them with everyone tomorrow."
Seeing her happy, Alexander felt relieved. Having something to do every day would keep her in good spirits.
The past few days have been pretty awesome. Every evening after dinner, Emily would swing by to ask Oscar to go for a walk.
At first, Oscar wasn't into it, but Emily didn't push. She'd just stand at the door, chatting with neighbors and saying, "I'm waiting for my friend to come out for a walk." This tactic worked, and Oscar, not wanting to make a scene, eventually joined her.
At 7:30 PM sharp, Emily rang the doorbell and politely asked Gina, "Has Oscar finished dinner? I'd like to go for a walk with him."
She spoke so sweetly, like a little schoolgirl.
Soon, Oscar came out in his sportswear, hands in his pockets. "You're pretty punctual every day," he said.
Emily smiled. "I set an alarm."
They walked slowly along the tree-lined path. Oscar didn't start any conversation, so Emily talked about school.
"Do you come back from school every day?" Oscar suddenly asked.
"Yeah, otherwise, how could I talk about so many school things? You're on a break and can't keep in touch with classmates, so I'll talk to you more to keep you company," Emily replied.
Oscar wasn't heartless. Her change surprised and touched him.
"Thank you," he said sincerely.
Emily exaggeratedly said, "What? You're thanking me? Oh my God, I finally heard those words. My hard work wasn't in vain."
She grabbed Oscar's arm excitedly and asked, "So, have you forgiven me? Are you no longer angry about what I did before?"
Oscar didn't like her touch and pulled his arm away. "You've taken care of me a lot recently and put up with my cold attitude. I'm not angry anymore."
Emily clasped her hands over her chest, closed her eyes, and pretended to cry. "You finally forgave me!"
Oscar found her amusing. "You don't need to come find me for walks or bring me supplements anymore. Go back to your own life."
Emily looked at him gratefully. "Oscar, you're a good person."
At that moment, someone walked by with his head down, brushing past Oscar. His arm moved slightly, and then he quickly walked away, disappearing into the woods.
Oscar felt a sharp pain in his abdomen, followed by a tingling sensation all over his body. A few seconds later, intense pain hit. He looked down and saw blood spreading, like a bright red flower.
He stared at the wound in a daze, then slowly looked up at Emily. His legs gave way, and he collapsed to the ground.
Emily screamed and quickly squatted down. "Oscar, Oscar!"
He could hear her calling, but his eyelids wouldn't open, and his body felt lighter and lighter.
In a van at the back gate of the community, the assailant took off his mask and said to Blake, "Perfect! I'm sure he won't make it!"
Blake smiled with satisfaction, handed him a card, and warned, "Take the money and hide out for a few years. Alexander won't let you off easily. Coming back early would be a death sentence, understand?"
"I know. No need to tell me," the man said, taking the card and quickly getting out of the van.
Blake looked into the vast night, sneering. "Alexander, your life is about to get a lot more interesting."
