Chapter 268 It's Because I Love You
Caspian quickly finished his shower, came out, sat on the sofa, and looked at the breakfast with disdain, asking, "Is this really what we're having?"
"What's wrong with it? Haven't you eaten this before?" Wendy asked sarcastically.
Caspian smiled and replied, "You're right. I haven't."
Wendy picked up a muffin, took a bite, and looked at him speechlessly, saying seriously, "If you haven't eaten it, try it. Or don't eat it at all. It's your choice."
Caspian had never had such a breakfast before; at home, breakfast was always prepared with high-end ingredients and well-balanced nutrition. He also picked up a muffin, held it up to the light, and asked, "What flavor is this muffin? Are the ingredients clean?"
"No, they're not." Wendy sneered. "There are lots of toxic substances. If you mind, don't eat it."
"However the muffin is delicious!" she added.
Caspian awkwardly put down the muffin and stopped after having some cereal.
After finishing their meal, they left the house.
Caspian said, "I can only drop you off at the subway station today."
"That's fine," Wendy said as she got into the car.
As Caspian drove towards the studio, he reminded her, "Try to avoid Roy as much as possible. He doesn't seem quite right, and I don't want you to get hurt."
Wendy said, "I know. I always avoid him like the plague whenever I can."
Caspian advised, "If he disturbs you again, don't waste time talking to him. Call me, and I'll deal with him."
"Got it," Wendy said with a cheerful smile.
Caspian glanced at her, raised his hand, and knocked on her head, saying, "Why are you grinning? Do you remember everything I told you? Don't come crying for help later."
"Got it!" Wendy rubbed her head, gave him a sidelong glance, and then looked away. He really did look quite charming with that commanding presence!
The sun was shining brightly today. After breakfast, Kelly took out her and Melvin's winter clothes and hung them in the backyard to the sun. She also hung Lucas's quilt on the line.
Lillian lay under the sunshade, drinking juice, and said to Kelly, "It's nice to have a front and back yard. When I was a kid living at Aunt Lisa's, the narrow balcony was cluttered and enclosed, leaving no place to hang a quilt. I love the smell of sun-dried quilts!"
Kelly smiled, using a hanger to beat the clothes and quilts, and said, "I'll ask Melvin to string up a few more lines so we can hang your quilts out, too."
She suddenly remembered something and said, "By the way, you and Alexander have many winter clothes in the closet. You could take them out and sun them, too."
"Since Alexander is home this morning, I'll go get them now," Lillian said energetically, smiling. "I've loved rummaging through closets since I was a kid. I'll be back soon."
Yesterday was Melvin's birthday, and Alexander had drunk quite a bit. After coming back, he and Melvin talked until the early hours. This morning, he was still a bit hungover, so Lillian let him take the morning off to rest and recharge for work.
She returned to her room and started rummaging through the closet. She loved the feeling of finding long-lost earrings in a corner or discovering a few bills in a winter coat pocket. It was delightful and surprising.
"Let's sun these," she said, throwing the clothes onto the bed, waking Alexander.
"Honey, what are you doing?" He asked in a hoarse voice.
Lillian turned and gave him an apologetic smile. He said, "I'm sorry for waking you. I saw Kelly sunning clothes, so I'd do the same."
She handed him a glass of water from the table and said, "If you're awake, don't go back to sleep. We should put our quilt out in the sun to warm it up."
Alexander drank the water, lay on the edge of the bed, and watched her bustle around, saying, "Take it easy, and don't tire yourself out."
Lillian said, "It's not hard work. Don't worry." She threw a wool coat onto the bed as she spoke.
Alexander looked at the gray wool coat, rubbed the collar, and smiled faintly. He said, "You wore this the first time we met."
"Really? Was it this one? I don't remember at all," Lillian asked.
Alexander gave her a reproachful look and asked, "Did you forget such an important event?"
Lillian chuckled and threw a few more coats onto the bed, saying, "I couldn't remember back then. If it were now, I definitely wouldn't forget."
Alexander looked at the newly thrown clothes, picked out a red turtleneck sweater, and said, "I remember you used to wear this a lot, with a white down jacket. It looked really beautiful."
Lillian sat down, held up the sweater, and said, "Honey, you're so good at complimenting. I love this sweater; I've worn it for three or four years. Leo gave it to me."
She realized she had said something wrong and looked at Alexander.
Alexander didn't mind at all and pulled out another piece of clothing, saying, "You wore this one a lot, too. I remember you wore it over your suit to work every day. In winter, you wore a hat and gloves, walked in the snow, and played with your footprints. Do you remember?"
Lillian exclaimed, "Honey, how do you remember the past so clearly? I haven't forgotten, but I don't remember these details. Did I play with footprints?"
Alexander changed his position, took her hand, and said sincerely, "At the beginning of our relationship, you probably didn't want to remember. You were bullied by me every day and couldn't fight back. What's worth remembering? Forgetting is fine; it's not important."
He smiled apologetically and continued, "As I fell deeper in love with you, I wanted to recall the past and see what we had been through. You know. When you love someone, you want to notice all the details and not miss a single one. That's how I am. In my memories, I try to recall your outfits, our conversations, and guess your feelings at the time."
Lillian listened in amazement, then clapped her hands and said admiringly, "Honey, your memory is amazing!"
He replied, "No! It's because I love you, so I remember!"
