Chapter 68 First Time of Driving
Theodore helped Caspian, who had been drunk, to leave first.
Alexander looked down at Luke, who had been awakened, and whispered to him, "Luke, you should go back with your mom and dad today and come to my house after Christmas."
Luke rubbed his eyes, glanced at his parents, and then at Alexander. He shook his head and said, "No, I want to go back and play with Oscar."
Lillian remained silent. She thought it was normal for Luke not to want to be with his irresponsible parents, and besides, Alexander was good to Luke!
Nico bent down and said to Luke, "Don't you want to live with us for a few days? We haven't been together for a while."
Luke shook his head.
Jackson said, "Okay, then you can stay at their house until Christmas and then come back."
Alexander patted Luke on the head and laughed, "Alright, let's go then. Let's go home and play with Oscar."
Lillian followed behind them. Suddenly, someone grabbed her wrist. She turned around and saw it was Nico.
"Anything else?" Lillian asked coldly.
Nico smiled and said, "Nothing. I just wanted to say thank you again. I saw how well you treated Luke. You took good care of him. I feel ashamed. Luke can be mischievous now, so if he makes you and Alexander angry, I hope you can be understanding."
She held Lillian's hand and looked at her, saying, "Lillian, thank you for your love for Luke."
Lillian looked at her with confusion. Nico's tone and expression at this moment were like that of a mother reluctant to let go of her child, completely different from before.
"Do you regret it? Then I'll have Luke come back now, and he'll listen to me," Lillian asked.
Nico shook her head with a smile, "No, Luke is happy with you. He would find it boring if he came home with us."
"Let's go, they're all downstairs now." Jackson hugged Nico's shoulder and said.
They left the hotel, and Lillian said goodbye to Nico and Jackson.
Luke rolled down the car window and shouted, "Goodbye, Mom and Dad."
Then he said to Lillian, "Lillian, you have to drive home tonight."
"What? Will I drive?" Lillian was surprised.
Tonight, Kevin didn't come with them. Alexander drove here. Since he had been drinking in the evening, he couldn't drive.
"Mr. Sinclair, how about we take a taxi back? Although I have a driver's license, I have never driven before," Lillian said worriedly.
Alexander glared at her and said, "Stop talking and get in the car!"
Lillian reluctantly opened the car door and got in. She exclaimed to herself, 'Wow! It really feels different sitting in a luxury car!'
"Mr. Sinclair, if I scratch your car, it's not my responsibility," Lillian reminded him as she looked at him through the rearview mirror.
"Just drive, no need for all this nonsense!" Alexander angrily replied.
Lillian tightly gripped the steering wheel and started the car. Perhaps due to her nervousness, she slammed on the brakes right after starting, causing all three of them to lurch forward.
"Lillian, what are you doing?" Luke rubbed his head and asked unhappily.
In a low voice, Alexander said, "Don't be nervous, relax."
"Sorry," Lillian wiped the sweat off her forehead and said, "I'm not nervous. I will relax."
The car started again and slowly moved onto the road. Because it was dark, Lillian drove carefully and slowly. Alexander didn't rush her and silently watched her from behind.
"Lillian, where are you taking us?" Alexander suddenly asked.
"Home," she nervously answered.
Lillian couldn't recognize the directions at night, and she felt embarrassed to mention it to Alexander earlier. She couldn't operate the navigation system, so she had to rely on her instincts to drive.
"Make a U-turn!" Alexander asked, "Don't you know the directions?"
Carefully, Lillian turned the car around and timidly said, "At night, I don't know the directions."
"Just keep going in this direction, and I will tell you when to turn," Alexander assured her.
"Okay." Nervously, Lillian swallowed her saliva and pursed her lips. She stared at the road ahead and drove slowly.
The one-hour journey took Lillian a full two hours to complete before they finally arrived home. When the car stopped in the yard, she let out a long sigh of relief. Her hands gripping the steering wheel were covered in sweat!
"Lillian, you did great!" Luke praised.
Lillian said wearily, "I guess I did great!"
After getting out of the car, Alexander said, "Practice driving more when you have the chance. Otherwise, your driver's license is no different from a blank piece of paper."
Lillian pouted with anger and thought to herself, 'Are you going to let me practice with your luxury car?'
Kelly and the others had already gone to rest before they returned. Alexander took Luke upstairs. Luke turned around and said to Lillian, "Lillian, remember to come find me later."
Lillian waved at him and said, "You go sleep first."
After going back into her room, Lillian took off her down jacket and realized that her back was soaked in sweat.
Christmas Day was approaching, and Lillian had not been to work since her injury. These past few days, she had been accompanying Kelly to buy decorations. Kelly and Melvin did not have children, and they had spent many Christmas Days at Sinclair Villa. This year, Oscar was joining them for Christmas Day, making it even more lively, so Kelly bought more things.
Time flew by, and it was Christmas Eve. It was also Leo's birthday. Every year, Lillian would spend Leo's birthday with him. But this year...
"Lillian, it's Leo's birthday today. Did you prepare a birthday gift for him?" Oscar had finished breakfast and came to her room to ask.
Lillian hesitated and said, "I have been busy buying things with Kelly lately. I didn't prepare a gift for Leo. And you?"
"Of course I did," Oscar proudly replied. "Lillian, let's stick to the tradition and celebrate Leo's birthday together tonight."
"Did he invite you? Did you agree?" Lillian asked.
"Yeah, he asked me to tell you," Oscar confirmed.
"But I don't really want to go," Lillian said with some difficulty.
"Are you afraid Alexander won't approve?" Oscar asked.
"After all, I am married now. It's not good to keep in touch with Leo often," Lillian explained.
"Leo is not a stranger, Alexander won't mind," Oscar reassured. After thinking for a moment, he added, "I can see that you're not brave enough to talk to Alexander about it, so I'll ask him later. If he agrees, you can go. Is that okay?"
Lillian nodded.
In fact, she didn't want to go, not only because of Alexander but also because of herself. Leo had confessed his feelings to her before, and she could have pretended not to know, but facing him again now would be awkward.
