Chapter 198 Shae's Anger
The day zipped by, and Lillian had been counting down the minutes. Finally, Alexander was off the clock.
"About time you showed up. I was about to lose it," Lillian teased.
Alexander handed her a bag of goodies. "Got you something."
"What is it?" Lillian tore into the bag. It was dessert.
"How'd you know I love this? Thanks, babe." She called him "babe" without thinking, her cheeks turning pink.
She looked down, fiddling with her red ears, and stole a glance at Alexander, who was grinning.
"Mr. Sinclair, Lillian's stuff is all packed. We can handle the discharge now. We already talked to the doc," Kelly said.
"I'll handle it. Also, extend Oscar's stay," Alexander replied.
He quickly wrapped up the paperwork, and they left the room, heading to the elevator.
"I sent Melvin home and got a caregiver for Oscar. We'll check on him when we get back," Alexander told Lillian.
"Yeah, Melvin's getting up there. It's not fair to make him stay overnight," Lillian agreed, then turned to Kelly. "Thanks for all your hard work, Kelly."
"Lillian, it's my job," Kelly said firmly.
They got off the elevator and walked to the hospital entrance, where Kevin had the car ready. Just as they stepped out, they bumped into Beatrice and Blake.
"Alexander?" Beatrice smiled, then eyed Lillian. "Here to see your grandparents?"
"Oscar's also in here," Alexander said coolly.
Lillian felt a bit panicked seeing Beatrice, worried she'd find out about her pregnancy check-up.
"What’s wrong with Oscar?" Beatrice asked.
"Heart disease. He's got surgery this week," Lillian replied.
Alexander and Kelly both looked at Lillian, and Kelly gave her a little nudge from behind.
"Beatrice, we gotta go. You and Blake can head up," Alexander said, grabbing Lillian's hand and walking to the car.
In the car, Kevin apologized, "Mr. Sinclair, I'm sorry. I didn't see Blake and Beatrice."
"Just drive. You're not a robot," Alexander said.
Sitting in the car, Lillian thought about Kelly's nudge and asked, "Alexander, did I screw up by telling Beatrice about Oscar's surgery?"
Alexander reassured her, "Nah, it's cool. Even if she knows, it's not a big deal."
Lillian said, "I don't get the power plays in your family, but I know the more I talk, the more I mess up. I'll be more careful. She's our enemy, right?"
Alexander chuckled, and even Kelly smiled.
"I don't want to drag you into these power games, but it's kinda unavoidable. You're right, we shouldn't give them any ammo. Just be careful, but don't stress too much," Alexander said.
"I get it. I was too forward," she admitted.
Alexander pulled her close. "I'll do my best to keep you out of this mess."
"Too late for that," Lillian said, looking up at him. "In Aetherland, they're already gunning for me. Can't dodge it."
Alexander stayed quiet, his brows knitting together.
Lillian gently smoothed his brows. "Don't stress. Whatever comes our way, we'll handle it together."
Feeling a bit better, Alexander kissed her forehead.
Meanwhile, back at the hospital, Beatrice stepped into the elevator, sensing something was off.
"Blake, did you catch how nervous Lillian got when she saw us?" Beatrice asked.
Blake thought for a second. "Yeah, now that you mention it. They're definitely hiding something."
"Get someone to dig into Oscar and see if she's been coming to the hospital lately," Beatrice ordered.
"Sure, that's a piece of cake!" Blake said confidently.
Beatrice shot him an annoyed look. "You always talk big but never get it right. When you see your grandparents, say nice things to make them happy. You're not even doing as well as the family cook."
Justin often praised the cook's meals more than he mentioned Blake, so Beatrice's frustration was understandable.
At the bar, the vibe was chill, with a singer softly crooning a foreign tune. In a corner, Shae and Taylor were huddled together, staring at a phone.
After the video ended, Shae was stunned. "Did you seriously just send this to Lillian?"
"Yeah, it should totally mess with her!" Taylor's eyes gleamed with mischief. "Maybe it'll even make her miscarry!"
Shae looked at her like she was an idiot. "Taylor, are you out of your mind?"
Taylor, annoyed, snapped back, "Who are you calling stupid? What's wrong with what I did?"
Shae, fuming, explained, "You should've sent this to the media, not her. Put it online to stir up a public outcry." She was already exasperated.
"And the subtitles were unnecessary! Putting my name on it will obviously make Lillian suspicious!" she said through gritted teeth.
"You posted it on Facebook. What were you thinking? Are you brainless? Or do you just want to tell Alexander it was you who sent it?" Shae was beyond frustrated.
She took a big gulp from her glass and slammed it on the table. "I thought your plan was solid, but it's full of holes!"
Taylor, feeling both scolded and angry, retorted, "How do you know she'll tell Mr. Sinclair? Maybe they don't trust each other enough yet, and she'll investigate it herself. With Lillian's abilities, she won't find out much."
"Idiot!" Shae angrily poked her forehead. "Since she's married to Alexander and pregnant with his kid, money isn't an issue. She can just hire a private investigator, and you'll be exposed!"
Clearly, Shae was fuming.
