Chapter 149 Alexander Working from Home
Alexander, while eating a chicken leg, teased, "Do you dislike me?"
"Not at all. I'm just worried you might dislike me," Lillian whispered, her face slightly blushing with embarrassment.
"If I disliked you, I wouldn't be eating this," he said calmly, taking out some loungewear from the wardrobe and heading to the bathroom.
Lillian patted her face, confirming she wasn't dreaming. Alexander's change in attitude was so sudden! She couldn't quite adapt to it.
She looked down at where he and she had bitten. She felt like they were lovers, chuckling.
Alexander came out of the shower, drying his hair, and said to her, "I bought you a large portion. Don't force yourself to finish. Otherwise, your stomach will feel uncomfortable."
"OK, I'll stop after finishing this piece," Lillian mumbled. She then suddenly turned to him and curiously asked, "Why did you come back so early today? Aren't you going to the office this afternoon?"
"I'm working from home today," Alexander replied.
He didn't tell her that he had been thinking about her all morning, wondering what she was doing at home, if his mother was being mean to her, and if she was sick. He was anxious and couldn't work. He hadn't felt this way about any woman since Amy's death, and now he was fixated on Lillian.
"Why are you working from home? It's so inconvenient," Lillian said as she finished the last piece and started cleaning up the bones.
"What are you going to do this afternoon?" Alexander asked.
Lillian smiled and said, "Sleep. After eating, I get very sleepy."
"Sleep. I won't disturb you," Alexander said and then left the room.
Lillian lay down on a comfy bed. Alexander's bed was cozy, and lying on it instantly put you to sleep. She relaxed and fell asleep.
Kelly followed Samantha back to Sinclair Villa. In the living room, Beatrice was chatting with Ethan, and they both burst into laughter over something.
Seeing Samantha come in, Beatrice stopped laughing and said, "You're back. Ethan told me that Lillian was pregnant. This is such wonderful news."
Ethan asked smilingly, "Where's Mom?"
Samantha said, "Mom can't bear to leave Lillian, so she's staying at Alexander's place for a few days. Kelly came back to get Mom's things."
Kelly stepped forward, bowed slightly, and respectfully greeted, "Mr. Ethan, Ms. Patton."
"Kelly, long time no see. You still look so spirited," Beatrice said.
"Ms. Patton, you look well-maintained, too," Kelly said with a faint smile.
Samantha said, "Kelly, go find Gina."
"Yes, Mrs. Sinclair," Kelly said, bowing her head and retreating.
Beatrice warmly asked, "Samantha, how is Lillian's health?"
"She's doing well, eating and sleeping well," Samantha said, trying to regain some pride for Lillian. "Although she's just pregnant, she's in great condition."
Beatrice said, "I think Lillian is OK. When Rena was first pregnant, she had terrible morning sickness. You must remember that. Later, Rena didn't even dare to come back to Sinclair Villa for meals, afraid of feeling nauseous." She covered her mouth and laughed after speaking.
Sitting beside her, Ethan said to Beatrice, "Samantha does have a lot of particularities."
Samantha shot Ethan a displeased look and said to Beatrice, "I don't quite remember that. Rena was so well-behaved and had a good relationship with me. Such a thing can't have happened. You must be mistaken."
Beatrice smiled and then looked at Ethan, teasing, "It is my fault. Samantha is upset."
Ethan took Beatrice's hand and said with a smile, "No, she's not mad at you."
Samantha, fearing she would get angrier, coldly said, "I'm going upstairs."
She acknowledged Beatrice's skill. Beatrice might make Ethan happy and forgive Blake despite his cruelty. Samantha grimaced, knowing this couldn't last. Otherwise, Alexander's efforts would be well-spent! No, she couldn't do anything.
As Samantha passed the second floor, she noticed the study. She then made coffee in the kitchen and took it upstairs.
She knocked on the study door and whispered, "Dad, it's me, Samantha."
"Come in," Justin said indifferently from inside.
Samantha entered the study with the coffee, smiling brightly. "Dad, have some coffee."
Justin was examining an ancient painting with a magnifying glass and said casually, "Just put it on the table."
Samantha obeyed. "Dad, Mom didn't come back with me and will stay at Alexander's place for a few days."
"Didn't she come back?" Justin looked up. "Lillian is pregnant. Why is she bothering the couple?"
Samantha chuckled and said, "Mom is just happy. She wants to spend more time with Lillian. Alexander anticipated this and had the guest room prepared early this morning."
Justin put down the magnifying glass, took a sip of the coffee, and couldn't help but laugh. "Age is making her confused. Her presence requires the staff and Alexander's wife to care for her, causing Alexander trouble. She acts recklessly at her age."
"It sounds like Mom often causes trouble," Samantha teased. "When I left, Mom asked me to tell you not to miss her tonight."
Justin laughed. "I won't."
"You and Mom are loving. The younger generation will learn from you," Samantha said enviously.
Justin picked up the cup again, lifted the lid, and suddenly asked, "What is Ethan doing? Did he go out?"
Samantha lowered her head, awkwardly smiling. "No. He's chatting with Beatrice in the living room."
"Did Beatrice come alone?" Justin asked.
"Yes, she came alone," Samantha replied.
Justin put the cup back on the table, slowly stood up, and walked towards the door, saying, "I've been in the study all morning. I should come out and take a break."
"Dad, let me help you," Samantha said, following him.
Hearing the laughter coming from the living room again, Samantha silently smiled.
