Chapter 423 Don't Want to Misunderstand, But Still Hold Hope

Wendy was sobbing in her sleep, and Caspian squatted beside her, waking her up.

"Wendy, wake up, did you have a nightmare?" he gently patted her and asked with concern.

Wendy opened her eyes to look at him, her eyes filled with tears, staring at him without speaking.

Caspian smiled at her and asked again, "Did you have a nightmare?"

Wendy's big eyes, with tears still hanging on her long eyelashes, made anyone who saw her feel heartache.

Caspian suddenly felt a rush of attraction.

The two of them looked at each other, neither of them speaking. The sudden silence filled the air with a hint of ambiguity.

Caspian couldn't help but move forward a bit, "Wendy."

Wendy's phone suddenly rang, snapping her back to reality. She got up to get her phone. Perhaps she got up too quickly, causing her to feel dizzy, and she fell right onto Caspian.

Caspian caught her, slightly tilting his head, his voice low and alluring, "Take it easy."

A smile involuntarily tugged at the corners of his mouth.

Wendy got up from his arms, embarrassedly smoothing her hair, and went to get her phone with her head down.

"Wendy, are you okay now?" Angela asked anxiously on the phone, "I was at an academic conference and missed your call, I'm sorry. Are you and your parents okay?"

Wendy said, "We're all fine, not seriously injured, don't worry."

Angela let out a long sigh of relief, "Hearing your message made me scared, but it's good that you're all okay. I'll call Ivan now and ask him to go to the hospital to check on you."

"Angela," Wendy said, "Don't trouble him, I can handle it."

Angela said, "Don't be stubborn, Ivan can help you with anything if he's there."

"It's not necessary, my parents are fine, and I'm just slightly injured, it's no big deal. If he comes, we'll feel constrained."

Angela paused for a moment and suddenly asked, "Who's with you? Caspian?"

Wendy was taken aback by the question and admitted, "Yes, he took a flight to get here."

"Then why didn't you tell me?" Angela said nonchalantly, "It's fine if he's there, you're happy. Take good care of yourself and your parents, and try to get discharged soon. I'll be back in over half a month, see you then."

"Okay, bye."

Wendy hung up the phone, looked at Caspian, and asked, "Did you book a hotel?"

Caspian, sitting beside her, said, "I have a house here."

"That's good, no need to stay in a hotel." She laughed awkwardly, feeling a bit uneasy.

He asked, "Do you need me to stay with you tonight?"

"There's nothing much tonight, you should go home and rest."

That night, Caspian left. Wendy saw him off to the hospital entrance, waiting for the housekeeper to pick him up.

The May evening felt a bit cool for early summer. The food stalls across the street were lined up one after another, with customers coming and going.

Wendy stared at them, suddenly craving the local delicacies of Rihegde.

"Do you want some?" Caspian asked, "I'll go get it for you." He started to cross the street.

Wendy quickly pulled him back, saying, "No, I was just looking at what's good to eat. I don't have an appetite now, maybe later."

Caspian said, "Alright, I'll get it for you next time."

Wendy found his words amusing and chuckled, "No need, I can buy it myself."

Caspian was about to say something when a luxury car stopped in front of them. The housekeeper got out of the car and respectfully said to him, "Mr. Wade, please get in the car."

Wendy stood by the roadside, waving with one hand, "Bye."

Caspian asked, "What do you want for breakfast tomorrow? I'll bring it over."

Wendy said, "Don't trouble yourself, I'll just get something from the cafeteria."

"I knew you'd say that asking you is pointless." Caspian said, "I'll bring whatever I decide tomorrow." Then he got in the car and left.

Wendy stood there, watching the car drive away until it was out of sight, then turned and left.

Caspian sat in the car, watching Wendy through the rearview mirror, seeing her figure getting smaller and smaller, but she was still standing there and looking him. He felt very happy.

The housekeeper looked at Caspian's smile and asked, "Mr. Wade, is this lady your girlfriend? Mrs. Wade would be delighted to know!"

Caspian smiled and said, "Not yet, don't go spreading rumors."

"Yes, sir," the housekeeper replied with a smile.

At midnight, the hospital corridor occasionally had faint voices. Wendy turned over, unable to sleep.

Closing her eyes, all she could see was Caspian. 'His arrival today had truly shaken me. Everything he did, was it just out of friendship? If so, comforting me over the phone would have sufficed, there was no need to fly over.'

She placed her arm over her forehead, sighed, and softly murmured, "Caspian, what do you mean by all this?"

"I don't want to misunderstand, but I still have hope..."

The next day, Caspian came over early, bringing breakfast.

Wendy had just finished helping her parents wash up. Seeing him, she said, "You've come again, my parents feel embarrassed."

Caspian put the breakfast on the table and smiled, "Jessica, Patrick, don't feel burdened. Wendy and I are friends, it's only right to take care of you."

Jessica said slowly, "You're a very loyal friend, Caspian. Patrick and I are grateful, but you have your things to do. We don't need much now, you don't have to come tomorrow."

Caspian placed the milk on their table and said, "Jessica, you know me, I'm a free man, nothing much to do. Keeping you company makes time pass faster."

Wendy came over and nudged him secretly, asking, "Have you eaten?"

"I ate before coming," Caspian said, "You all take your time eating." He then went to the outer room.

Jessica looked at Wendy with a scrutinizing gaze, chuckled coldly, and asked, "Are you two secretly dating?"

"No, we're just friends," Wendy said in a low voice, "Mom, why don't you believe me?"

Jessica snorted and sighed sarcastically.

Caspian's phone rang from the outer room. He answered, "Hello, Evelyn."

Wendy, drinking her milk, perked up her ears curiously.

"I'm in Atlanta now, can't come back for a while. I'll handle it when I return," Caspian said a few words and then hung up.
