Chapter 160 Lisa's Goal Achieved
"Do you want me to help her?" Alexander leaned against the bathroom door, smiling as he asked.
Lillian pondered for a moment and said, "No matter how much you help Adam, he won't achieve anything. You decide for yourself; I won't interfere."
Alexander chuckled, touched her chin, and then rubbed her cheek. "Got it. I know what to do."
"Okay." Lillian met his eyes but didn't move.
Alexander laughed. "What are you staring at? Wanna join me in the shower?" He pretended to pull her in by the wrist.
Lillian yelped, "Don't! I'm scared!"
Alexander let go, thinking about what happened in Aetherland. He pulled her close and whispered, "Sorry, just messing with you."
Lillian inhaled the pleasant scent of his shirt, feeling calmer. "Alexander, your shirt smells amazing. What cologne is that?"
"I don't use cologne," he teased, releasing her. "It's all natural charm."
Lillian giggled. "Go shower. I'm heading out."
As she left, she pondered Alexander's words. It seemed like he might agree to Lisa's request. "Let him decide," she muttered.
In the dining room, Linda and the others were already seated. Lillian sat next to Luke. Alexander arrived soon after. Seeing him, Lola straightened up, trying to look dignified.
"Let's eat," Linda said with a smile.
Kelly had prepared a feast. Lisa, in front of Linda and Alexander, ate quietly, trying to behave.
Lola, eager to impress, offered Alexander a dish. "Alexander, try this."
Alexander looked up, nodded slightly, but said nothing.
The steak Kelly made was especially good, and Lillian couldn't get enough. Alexander noticed and cut some for her, placing it on her plate.
"Mr. Sinclair Senior, look how sweet they are," Lisa praised.
Linda beamed. "I'm not bragging, but Alexander treats Lillian like a queen. She's in good hands."
"I'm relieved. With Lillian pregnant, I know she'll be well cared for with Alexander and Kelly around. Thank you," Lisa said.
"Lisa, try this. It's Kelly's specialty," Lillian offered, hoping to keep Lisa from saying anything awkward.
Lola kept glancing at Alexander, who didn't acknowledge Lillian. His food sat untouched. Lola fumed silently.
Dinner finally ended. Kelly went upstairs with Linda, and Lisa eagerly sought out Alexander to talk. In the living room, Lillian and Lola were both absorbed in their phones.
"Have you talked to Leo lately?" Lola suddenly asked. "Adam mentioned the other day that Debra's really sick and has been in and out of the hospital."
Lillian was taken aback. Since their last meeting at the hospital, she hadn't contacted Leo. She had only sent a greeting on Facebook during Christmas. Ever since he confessed his feelings, the brotherly affection she had for him had vanished, and she didn't want to keep in touch, fearing he might think he still had a chance.
But hearing about Debra's illness distressed her. Debra had always been kind, often inviting her over for meals when she was young.
"If I tell you this, you'll get upset again. Debra and Leo have always been good to you. Now that you're married, you don't talk to them? Adam said Leo's been struggling," Lola said.
"What happened to him?" Lillian asked, confused.
"Since leaving Whale Group, he hasn't found a job and has been staying home," Lola replied.
"That can't be. Last time I saw Leo, he said his new job was great," Lillian said, surprised.
"He lied. He didn't want you to worry," Lola said, glancing at her. "Leo's liked you for years, and you never noticed."
Lillian didn't respond, just looked away.
In the study, Lisa sat across from Alexander, smiling nervously. "Alexander, can you do us this favor?"
Alexander leaned back, chuckling but saying nothing.
Seeing his silence, Lisa continued, "I feel awkward asking. But with Lillian pregnant with the Sinclair family's child, I don't want to upset her. So, I came to you."
Alexander looked at her and slowly said, "Lola wants to join Whale Group. Fine. Finding a job is tough now. Let her intern first."
"Will you help Adam?" Lisa asked eagerly.
"Adam only knows how to spend money. If I'm not mistaken, the $120,000 I gave you is already gone. Now you're asking for more. That's not right," Alexander said.
"Alexander, we're in a tough spot. Adam partnered with a friend in a business venture and lost money. He was trying to help the family," Lisa said.
"Don't lie to me. I know everything about your situation," Alexander said with a cold smile. "Adam gambled all that money away, didn't he?"
Lisa looked shocked, her face stiffening. She pleaded, "Alexander, I didn't mean to deceive you. Please help us one last time. I don't want to see Adam achieve nothing.".
"You know he lacks ability. So, if I give you money, what will you do with it?" Alexander asked. "If you really want him to have a job, let him come see me tomorrow."
"Are you going to let him work at your company too?" Lisa asked, surprised.
Alexander looked at her quietly, his eyes full of mockery.
Lisa understood and forced a smile. "Alright, I'll leave him to you."
"If there's nothing else, leave. I'll have the driver take you," Alexander said.
Seeing Lisa come downstairs with a smile, Lillian knew she had achieved her goal.
"Lola, say goodbye to Linda and Alexander. We're leaving," Lisa said, pulling Lola back upstairs.
