Chapter 283 Let's Go to the Beach Together
When it was dinner time, after a lively meal, Caspian picked his teeth and casually said to Wendy, "Black Monkey, want to go beachcombing with me?"
Wendy replied unhappily, "How many times have I told you, don't call me Black Monkey!"
"Are you coming or not, Black Monkey?" Caspian asked again with a mischievous smile.
With no other option, Wendy said, "Alright, let's go. Lucas, are you coming?"
"I'm not going. I've been playing all day, and Uncle Alexander wants me to do my homework tonight," Lucas shrugged, looking helpless.
Wendy grabbed Lucas's bucket and a small shovel and followed Caspian to the beach.
By evening, the beach had emptied, and the afterglow of the sunset painted the sand in shades of orange and red.
Wendy, donning a sunhat and carrying a bucket, asked Caspian, "I heard that after the tide goes out, there will be a lot of fish and shrimp. Where should we catch them?"
Caspian turned his head and looked at her as if she were an idiot, laughing, "The sun has set, why are you still wearing a hat? Is it new?"
"The wind is strong, and I don't want my hair to get messed up, okay?" Wendy rolled her eyes at him, adjusting her hat.
After speaking, she inadvertently looked down and noticed some shellfish on the beach. Exclaiming in surprise, she squatted down to pick one up, and asked, "Caspian, what kind of seafood is this?"
"Clam!" Caspian replied, "Don't you recognize it? Haven't you seen it at the seafood market?"
Wendy pouted, put the clam in the bucket, and said, "My mother is allergic to seafood, so we don't even eat seaweed at home. That's why I don't recognize it."
"Do you recognize shrimp?" Caspian picked up a shrimp and held it in front of her, saying seriously, "This is a shrimp. It turns red when cooked."
"Caspian, you're ridiculous," Wendy laughed uncontrollably at his serious expression, "Of course I know what shrimp are. Are you making fun of me?"
"I'm not kidding you. I'm teaching you about seafood," he said, unable to hold back his laughter.
The sea breeze blew gently as the two of them squatted by the beach, digging in the sand like curious children. To be precise, It was Wendy who was extremely serious. Every time she found something, she would eagerly show it to Caspian and ask him what it was.
After Caspian answered her questions, she would generously praise him, "Mr. Wade, you're amazing. You know everything." Although he knew it was flattery, it still stroked his ego.
"Caspian, look at this stone's pattern. Doesn't it look like you?" Wendy picked up a stone that immediately reminded her of him and showed it to him, laughing, "A cartoon version of you."
Caspian took it and seriously examined it, touching his chin, and said with a smile, "You know, it does look a bit like me."
Wendy took the stone back, saying, "I'll keep this one separately and show it to Lillian and the others when we get back."
Caspian, his legs numb from squatting, stood up and asked, "Have you had enough fun? Are you ready to head back?"
Wendy said, "Let's play a little longer. I'm not done yet."
"Then you keep playing," he said, standing nearby, lighting a cigarette, and gazing into the distance as he smoked.
A moment later, Wendy looked up at him and asked, "What are you thinking about? You look so deep in thought."
Caspian took a drag of his cigarette and said wistfully, "Last summer, Evelyn was here, just like you, squatting in front of me and playing with the sand. In just one year, everything has changed."
"So you're thinking about Ms. Phillips," Wendy said sympathetically, "Don't dwell on it. You can always like someone else."
Caspian laughed, "That's easy for you to say."
Wendy picked up a shell, examined it, and said to him, "She doesn't like you. She doesn't even realize you're upset."
"The first person to say they don't like you shouldn't be me, right? It should be Ms. Phillips!" Wendy said, suddenly realizing.
Caspian glanced down at her, releasing a frustrated breath, and said, "How can Evelyn be compared to other women? She is the most special."
"How is she different?" Wendy threw the shell into the bucket and stood up shakily. Her legs were numb from squatting for too long.
She bent over, not daring to move, as the strange sensation of numbness spread through her body. Holding onto Caspian's arm, she looked up at him and asked, "So you think I'm just like the women who flatter you? Am I the first person to tell you they don't like you?"
Caspian looked at her and said frankly, "Yes!"
Wendy rolled her eyes at him, looking exasperated.
Caspian asked, "Are you feeling better? Ready to go back?"
Wendy moved her legs, feeling better, and stood up straight, saying, "Alright. Let's go."
This beachcombing trip was quite successful, yielding half a bucket of assorted seafood.
"Can we ask the chef to cook this? Will it be enough for a dish?" she joked.
Caspian glanced at the bucket and said, "Of course not."
They returned to the villa, and Wendy excitedly showed Lillian. Then she took the bucket to the chef, asking him to cook it.
The sky was completely dark, and the courtyard was illuminated with warm yellow lights. In the center of the courtyard stood a square table with fruits and snacks, while the chef brought out the seafood.
Caspian, having taken a shower and changed clothes, sat in a chair and said with a smile, "They made a dish. Come on, let's eat, Wendy's hard-earned results."
He took a bite and asked, "Where's the diligent Wendy?"
Lillian said, "She went to her room and hasn't come down yet."
Just then, Wendy came out, talking on the phone, "Yes, Ms. Phillips, I'll go to the studio tomorrow and revise the plan. Okay, bye."
"What's up? Do you have to work tomorrow?" Lillian asked.
Wendy sat next to Caspian, sighed, and said, "I have to work overtime tomorrow. Should I leave tonight or early tomorrow morning?"
She had come with Caspian, so naturally, he would be the driver when she went back. She looked at him.
Caspian said, "Let's go tomorrow morning."
Wendy said, a bit disappointed, "I haven't had enough time here. I wanted to relax for the weekend, but now I have to work overtime."
"Come back next week. My birthday is coming up, and we can have a great time then," Lillian said, trying to cheer her up.
Early the next morning, Wendy was woken up by her alarm clock. She quickly got ready and went to knock on Caspian's door. Her phone suddenly received a Facebook message.
"Black Monkey, I'm waiting for you in the dining room."
