Chapter 412 Suddenly Tongue-Tied

Amos, that cunning fox, has been on the run for five days now. Neither the police nor Alexander's people have found him and Brenda. No one knows where the two of them are hiding.

Joseph's heart was found to have signs of a heart attack, so he couldn't be discharged and needed surgery. Elodie, being timid and fearful, was scared that something might happen to her husband, so she went home to rest.

Evelyn was running back and forth between the company, the hospital, and home every day. No matter how tired she was, she had to keep going. Seeing how exhausted she was, Caspian volunteered to help take care of Joseph at the hospital.

"Caspian, you haven't been home for days. I'm fine. You should go back and get some rest. Evelyn will be here soon."

Caspian lazily leaned on the sofa and said nonchalantly, "You can't be left alone right now, so don't say you're fine. I'm not tired. We snore at each other every night and get plenty of rest."

"Evelyn," Joseph sighed, "She let go of such a good kid like you and found herself a fraud. She must have suffered, right? She just doesn't have good judgment!"

Caspian looked up at Joseph and half-jokingly said, "Joseph, the doctor said not to talk too much. You should close your eyes and rest"

"You little rascal, if you don't want to listen, just say so. Don't try to stop me from talking" The old man laughed angrily and lightly scolded.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door outside the ward. Caspian said, "Come in."

It was Lillian and Angela coming to see Joseph. One was holding flowers, and the other a fruit basket. They were surprised to see Caspian there.

"Caspian, you're here too," Lillian asked.

Caspian took the flowers and fruit and said, "Evelyn is too busy, so I'm here to help take care of things."

It was Lillian's first time meeting Joseph, so she was very reserved. After introducing herself and Angela, she inquired about Joseph's condition. After chatting for a while, they were about to leave.

"Caspian, see Lillian out," Joseph said, as if they were family.

Leaving the ward, the three walked towards the elevator.

Lillian glanced sideways at Caspian and teased, "You're taking care of Joseph at the hospital. Are you and Evelyn getting back together?"

Caspian said, "Don't talk nonsense. There's nothing like that. I've moved on. I'm just taking care of Evelyn as a friend."

Lillian pouted, showing her disbelief.

Before getting into the elevator, Angela said to Caspian, "You don't know about Wendy, do you? She's your friend too. If you have time, you should check on her."

"What happened to Wendy?" Caspian asked urgently, unable to hide his concern.

Angela said, "You can see for yourself. She's dating a celebrity. Just check online." With that, the elevator doors slowly closed.

"Angela, who do you think Caspian will care more about now that both Evelyn and Wendy are in trouble?"

Angela thought for a moment and said, "Probably Evelyn. He hasn't known Wendy for long. How could that compare to his history with Evelyn?"

"Really?" Lillian said, "Wendy needs someone with her right now. If Caspian could spend a few days with her and cheer her up, I think she'd get over it quickly."

"We can do that too!" Angela said. "Let's pick Wendy up after work tonight."

As they left the elevator, Lillian said wistfully, "But in my heart, I still hope Caspian cares more about Wendy."

Caspian returned to the ward and checked entertainment news on his phone. Although Aaron's incident had happened a few days ago, it was still a hot topic in the media.

He read through the details with a grim expression, shocked that Aaron had hurt his friend!

Furious, he was about to call Aaron, but before he could find his number in the contacts, he stopped, backed out, and went to Facebook instead.

Opening his chat with Wendy, he thought for a long time before carefully sending a message: [Wendy, are you okay?]

He got anxious after waiting so long for a reply.

He went online and read through Aaron's incident again, still not receiving a reply from Wendy.

After hesitating for a moment, he decided to call her.

"Hello, who is this?" Wendy answered in a hurry, with a lot of noise in the background, as if she was very busy.

Caspian was momentarily speechless at her question, not knowing what to say.

"Speak up," Wendy said, looking at her phone to see who was calling. Seeing the name that made her heart flutter, she was momentarily stunned.

Putting the phone back to her ear, she said, "It's you. I'm really busy here and didn't see who was calling. What's up?"

Caspian glanced at the sleeping Joseph and said softly, "You didn't see my message, did you? I just saw online that—"

"I broke up with Aaron. What's online is true," Wendy interrupted. "Is that why you called?"

"Not really," Caspian stammered, "I was just concerned about you. Breakups are tough. I thought we could grab a meal sometime."

"No need, I'm fine. You should take care of Ms. Phillips' father. She needs you more than I do," Wendy said decisively. "Caspian, I have to go. I'm really busy."

"Okay, you go ahead."

Caspian sighed as he looked at his phone, feeling a heavy weight on his chest. After a long silence, he made another call.

Wendy, busy with work, thought about the call and felt a mix of emotions. 'It had been almost a week, and he only just found out. Probably Lillian told him? No need for concern. I felt embarrassed about the whole thing.'

"Wendy, what are you daydreaming about? Hand me the documents," a colleague called, snapping her back to reality. She quickly got back to work.

After work, Angela and Lillian parked their car outside the studio, waiting to surprise Wendy. When Wendy came out, she was both surprised and delighted, running towards them.

"Why didn't you tell me in advance? You two are giving me a surprise," Wendy said, getting into the car with a smile.

Lillian said, "If we told you, it wouldn't be a surprise. We're taking you out for some good food. What do you want to eat?"

"Let's go to a bar and have some drinks," Wendy suggested."Alright!"

The bar was packed and lively.

The three girls found a table and sat down. Lillian ordered a lot of food.

As the waiter was about to leave, Wendy called out, "Miss, bring us five more bottles of beer!"
