Chapter 262 The Power Outage at Wendy's House
Wendy was taken aback for a moment, then glared at him and said, "You're the one who looks like a black monkey."
Caspian couldn't help but laugh, and even Gina on the side couldn't hold back her laughter.
Angela saw Caspian teasing Wendy and gave a helpless smirk, saying to Wendy, "It's a joke. Why are you getting so mad? It's not a big deal."
"Dr. Turner is more magnanimous," Caspian said as he placed a steak in front of her.
"Mr. Wade, I'm not magnanimous," Angela pushed the steak back and said with a smile. "I've been on a diet recently. I don't eat meat."
Caspian responded with a playful tone, "No way? I heard from Theodore the other day that you guys went out for a barbecue. It's only been a few days, and now aren't you eating meat?"
Wendy looked at her in surprise and curiously asked, "When did you go out for dinner with Mr. Wellington? Why didn't you tell me?"
Angela rolled her eyes at Caspian and said, "It was a while ago. It's not a big deal. I forgot about it."
"What was the big deal? I want to hear it, too," Lillian walked in and asked with a smile.
Lucas, who had been quietly eating his steak on the side, heard her question and shouted, "Angela went on a barbecue date with Theodore and didn't tell anyone!"
"Yeah, Lillian. Did you know about this?" Wendy asked.
Lillian's eyes widened in disbelief and she asked, "Angela? This is a big deal. Why didn't you say anything?"
Angela was speechless and helplessly spread her hands, saying to them, "Mr. Wellington is your friend, as am I. Is it worth making such a fuss over friends having a meal together? Isn't it a bit exaggerated?"
"Then, why didn't you tell us? Your relationship must be special if you're hiding it from us." Wendy pouted unhappily.
"Exactly. If you two aren't dating, why didn't you mention it in the group chat with Wendy and me? I had to hear it from someone else. Do you know how we feel?" Lillian questioned.
Angela rubbed her forehead and asked, "Please, give me a break."
Alexander came to Angela's rescue and said to Lillian, "Honey, don't get worked up. I know about this. Mr. Wellington needed Dr. Turner's help with something, and he treated her to a meal as a thank you. It's a favor, not what you think."
"Really?" Lillian and Wendy exchanged glances, understanding each other without words.
"Come on. Let's eat," Alexander called everyone to eat.
This little episode was over.
Alexander was telling the truth. Angela had previously agreed to help Theodore find a patient who had sent her perfume. The patient wasn't local and only came to Rihegde at the end of the month. After introducing them, they somehow became friends, and Theodore treated her to a meal as a thank.
However, Caspian's comment made it seem ambiguous, and with the two of them pressing her, it made it look like she and Theodore were dating. She didn't want to talk about it because it involved Theodore's privacy, and it didn't feel right to bring it up.
"Lillian, has Evelyn visited you recently?" Caspian suddenly asked.
Lillian replied, "She came by once in the middle of last month."
Caspian asked, "Did she come alone?"
"No. She came with her boyfriend," she replied. Noticing Caspian's expressionless face, she added. "Evelyn has been quite busy. Lately, she didn't stay long."
After dinner, Angela received a call and had to leave early. Wendy, who had come with Angela, also had to go with her.
"Wendy, our destinations are in different directions, so you can't carpool with me. Either let Mr. Sinclair take you or let Mr. Wade take you," she said, waving to the others. "That's all. I'm leaving."
Wendy rarely got off work early today and wanted to go home early to rest. Between Alexander and Caspian, she resolutely chose the former.
"Come on. Don't bother Alexander. He needs to stay home with Lillian. I'm leaving, too. I'll take you," Caspian offered.
Wendy was reluctant to let him take her, but she didn't want to trouble Alexander either. After hesitating for a moment, she said, "Drop me off at the subway station."
Lillian asked Kelly to pack some food and instant meals for her. She said, "Although your parents aren't home, you need to eat regularly and healthily. If you're scared to stay home alone, stay with me."
"I leave the light on when I sleep, so I'm not scared. It's fine," Wendy took the food and said to Kelly. "Thanks, Kelly!"
She and Caspian got in the car and left.
"Did your parents go on a trip?" Caspian asked casually as the car drove slowly on the road.
Wendy replied, "No, they went on a study trip. Drop me off at the subway station ahead. There's no need to take me home."
"It's no trouble, and I have nothing else to do," Caspian said as he stepped on the gas and drove past the subway station.
Wendy looked on helplessly and sighed. She thought, 'Well, since he's kind enough to take me, I shouldn't be picky. Getting home early is the main thing.'
The car drove to the entrance of Wendy's apartment complex.
"Thanks for taking me home. Drive safely," she said.
Caspian nodded slightly. "Go on."
Watching Wendy get out of the car and enter the building, Caspian also got out, leaned against the car, lit a cigarette, and slowly smoked. He looked at the distant park.
Suddenly, the brightly lit high-rise buildings around them went dark. From a window on the first floor, someone let out a scream.
Caspian recognized the scream as Wendy's. He immediately put out his cigarette and walked quickly towards the building. At that moment, Wendy ran out of the building in a panic, wearing pajamas and disheveled hair, and bumped right into him.
"You scared me to death! It's too dark!" In a panic, Wendy hugged Caspian's waist, buried her head in his chest, and shouted in fear. "The power went out. It's too dark inside!"
Caspian raised his hands slightly, letting her hug him, and said helplessly, "Wendy, it's a power outage. Do you need to be this scared?"
"I can't help it. I'm too scared," Wendy said, her voice trembling as she closed her eyes.
Caspian said, "We're outside now. There's the car's light, and you can let go of me."
Hearing this, Wendy opened her eyes and realized she was still hugging him tightly. She immediately let go, coughed lightly in embarrassment, and said, "I'm sorry."
Feeling a bit more at ease with the car's light outside, she clutched her chest, took a deep breath, and said angrily, "Why did the power go out all of a sudden? They didn't even put up a notice."
With that, she looked at Caspian and asked, "Why haven't you left yet?"
