Chapter 169 Shae, you've changed a lot
Evelyn frowned. "Shae, Alexander's married now. You need to move on. If he liked you, he wouldn't have waited this long."
Shae shot back, "Alexander and I aren't together because of Amy. I doubt he even likes Lillian. Has he forgotten Amy? They were crazy in love. I can't believe he'd fall for Lillian after Amy's death."
Evelyn sighed, "Shae, you're being too extreme. We all saw how long it took Alexander to recover from Amy's death. Don't you want him to move on? Amy's gone. Do you want him to stay single forever because of her?"
Shae, with a stern face, replied, "Even if you're right, why did he marry Lillian? What does she have? She doesn't deserve him! It makes me so mad!"
"You think you deserve him, don't you?" Evelyn said, annoyed. "You're too close to see clearly. Alexander has always seen you as a sister. Why can't you get that? Lillian may not be perfect, but Alexander likes her, and they're married. What's the point of being angry? Why not accept it and give them your blessing?"
"No, it's not fair!" Shae snapped. "Evelyn, we're good friends. Why are you always defending Lillian? Are you two close now?"
"I'm just stating the facts. Alexander's found his happiness. Why do you want to ruin it?" Evelyn said, slowing down the car. "Shae, if you keep this up, maybe I should take you back. We came here to have a good time. I don't want you ruining everyone's mood, especially Lillian's."
Shae, unhappy but quick to smile, grabbed Evelyn's arm and pleaded, "Evelyn, I'm not here to cause trouble. I just got carried away. I'll behave and not bother Lillian, okay?"
Evelyn looked at her seriously, "Shae, I hope you don't do anything inappropriate with Alexander. We're adults now. You should know waht to do."
"Okay, I won't do anything inappropriate!" Shae promised.
Evelyn couldn't stay mad at her and stepped on the gas, driving forward.
"Shae, can I say something without you getting mad?" Evelyn asked cautiously. "After that car accident a few years ago, you've seemed different."
"Really?" Shae smiled awkwardly. "Maybe the accident was too much of a shock, and with Amy's death, it's natural for my personality to change."
"Is that so?" Evelyn looked puzzled. "Shae, you used to be kind, gentle, and timid. I always protected you. But now, you're more assertive?"
Shae looked out the window, sadness in her eyes. "Maybe it's because I've been abroad these past few years. When you're alone in a foreign place, even the gentlest person can become assertive."
Seeing Shae wouldn't admit it, Evelyn decided to drop it. "Maybe. You were young when you went abroad, right after the accident. You had to rely on yourself. You had to be strong to survive."
Shae just gave a bitter smile.
After about twenty more minutes of driving, they reached the villa.
As Shae unbuckled her seatbelt, she sighed. "I miss this place. It's been years."
"Me too. Since Amy passed, Alexander hasn't come here either," Evelyn said, getting out of the car.
On the distant beach, Lillian, Angela, and Wendy were playing beach volleyball with Luke. Evelyn shaded her eyes with her hand and shouted, "Lillian! We're back!"
Lillian heard and looked over, waving vigorously. "We'll come back after a bit!"
Angela asked, "Who are those two?"
"Evelyn and Shae," Lillian replied, wondering why Shae was there too.
Wendy picked up the ball. "What are you guys talking about? Come on, let's play!"
Evelyn and Shae entered the villa. In the living room, Theodore was sitting alone on the sofa, playing with his phone.
"Why are you alone? Where are the others?" Evelyn asked.
Theodore looked up and smiled. "They're in the game room. Shae, long time no see."
"Theodore, long time no see," Shae greeted him.
Theodore smiled at Evelyn and said, "Shae, you've become even more beautiful."
The two headed to the game room upstairs.
As they opened the door, Caspian saw Evelyn and stood up angrily. "Why are you back so late? Why didn't you reply to my Facebook messages?"
"Because I didn't want to. What's it to you?" Evelyn brushed past him and walked over to Jackson. "Is Nico here?"
"Yeah, she's not feeling well and is resting in the guest room," Jackson said, playing a card.
Seeing that Alexander hadn't played yet, he looked up and said, "Alexander, it's your turn."
Alexander was staring at Shae in shock, his eyes red and filled with complex emotions. His hand holding the cards was trembling slightly.
"Alexander, what's wrong?" Evelyn noticed his odd behavior and asked worriedly.
Alexander's throat moved, his eyes still fixed on Shae. In a hoarse voice, he asked slowly, "Who told you to come here and imitate Amy?"
"What are you talking about?" Evelyn asked, confused. The others also looked at Alexander in surprise, then at Shae.
Shae, sitting across from him, smiled faintly and asked, "Alexander, do I look like Amy?"
Yes! When she walked in with Evelyn earlier, his heart felt like it had been hit by a hammer. He thought he was seeing things, or that Amy had really come back. All sorts of emotions surged in his heart, leaving him staring at her in shock, not knowing what to do.
