Chapter 353 You Were Not Allowed to Speak Ill of Him
Caspian gave a self-deprecating smile and said to her slowly, "I just wanted to tell you that when you look for a boyfriend in the future, be careful and don't get deceived. If you meet someone like me, don't fall for them. Find someone who shares your values and understands you."
Wendy kept a cold face and didn't speak, taking bite after bite of her food. His words were clear; even a fool could understand what he meant.
"You're still young and naive, and you see relationships in an idealistic way. Once you meet more guys, you'll realize that I'm pretty lousy." Caspian repeated.
Wendy angrily slammed her fork on the table, looked at him with deep eyes, and said through gritted teeth, "Whether I meet more guys or not is my business. I know what you want to say, and I appreciate you being so tactful and considering my dignity. I'm sorry for the trouble I caused you with my drunken words yesterday. That's all; I'm leaving." With that, she grabbed her bag and turned to leave with her head down, tears falling as she turned around.
'Rejection is rejection, why say those things about meeting more guys? It makes me feel even worse! You think you're not good enough, but I think you are, so why say that!' Wendy cried silently, cursing him in her heart.
Caspian watched Wendy leave the restaurant with her head down, feeling guilty. But he couldn't deceive her just to make her happy.
Wendy didn't go back to her apartment; she took a cab to Angela's house.
"What happened? Did you cry?" Angela asked as she opened the door and quickly pulled the disheveled Wendy inside.
Wendy pouted, sobbing, and finally burst into tears. "I confessed to Caspian, and he gently rejected me!"
"Don't cry; this was expected," Angela said, pulling out two bags of snacks from under the coffee table and handing them to her. "It's good that he rejected you; now you can move on. I'll introduce you to someone better than Caspian."
Wendy ate the snacks and sobbed. "I don't want anyone else. I just want Caspian."
"But he rejected you," Angela said, handing her a tissue to wipe her tears.
Wendy started crying again at her words.
Angela sighed, feeling bad for Wendy, and couldn't help but curse Caspian, "Caspian is the root of all this. If he hadn't used you to make Evelyn jealous, you wouldn't have gotten so close. It's all his fault! He has no taste; you're so great, and he doesn't like you. Serves him right for being single!"
Wendy looked at her with tearful eyes and pouted, "You are not allowed to speak ill of him!"
Angela smiled helplessly. "He rejected you, and you're still defending him."
"I like him," Wendy said, starting to cry again.
Seeing it was getting late, Angela got up to tidy the guest room and said to her, "Even if you've been rejected, life goes on. Stop crying, take a shower, and go to bed."
"Will my eyes be swollen tomorrow?" Wendy asked worriedly.
"They're already swollen now," Angela said. "I'll get you an ice pack to reduce the swelling."
Wendy nodded obediently and pitifully said, "Angela, I want some dessert. Can you get me some?"
Knowing Wendy always had desserts to cheer herself up when she was feeling down, Angela said, "Okay, I'll order some delivery. You go take a shower first."
Angela sat on the couch, looking for a dessert shop. She didn't eat sweets often and didn't know which ones were good. Just as she was hesitating, the doorbell rang. She was surprised, wondering who it could be at this hour. "Who is it?"
"It's me, Theodore," a gentle voice came from outside.
Angela went to open the door, wondering what he wanted.
Theodore smiled and said, "I have two boxes of sweets that were given to me, but I don't care for sugary things. I thought I'd bring them to you, so I hope you don't mind."
Angela took the boxes and thanked him, "Thank you, I'll take them."
"Then I won't disturb your rest. Good night." Theodore said politely.
"Good night," Angela said before closing the door. She turned and went to the bathroom, standing at the door, and said to Wendy, "Look how lucky you are. Just as you were craving desserts, someone brought them over. Eat them after your shower."
"Who is so nice? Why would someone bring you desserts?" Wendy asked, still curious despite her sadness.
Angela said, "Mr. Wellington from upstairs."
Theodore went home and sent a voice message to Caspian: [I delivered the desserts, but I didn't see Wendy.]
Caspian replied quickly: [Thank you.]
Theodore: [Are you sure she's at Angela's place?]
Caspian: [I'm sure. As long as the desserts are delivered, it's fine.]
Theodore didn't reply, chuckling to himself, "You've rejected Wendy, but you're still secretly caring for her."
Wendy ate the desserts and asked Angela, "Why did Mr. Wellington bring you desserts? Is he pursuing you?"
"Someone gave them to him, and he doesn't like sweets, so he brought them to me. We're neighbors; it's normal," Angela said indifferently.
Wendy said, "Really? I don't think so."
"You're eating this stuff at night, aren't you afraid of gaining weight? One is enough." Angela teased.
"I'll eat them all; it'll make me feel better," Wendy said, taking another big bite of a dessert.
The next morning, Angela went to wake Wendy up.
"Angela," Wendy said, lying in bed and pointing to her throat, her voice hoarse. "I think there's something wrong with my throat."
Angela felt her forehead and looked inside her mouth, saying, "You ate so many sweets last night and your mood was unstable, so now your throat is inflamed. Let's focus on bringing down the fever first."
"I have to go to work," Wendy said, only making faint sounds that were hard to hear.
"Take a couple of days off," Angela sighed. "In this state, you're still thinking about work. I'll call in sick for you. Do you want to take medicine or get a shot?"
Feeling too unwell to go to work, Wendy pointed to the back of her hand, indicating she wanted a shot.
"I'll get you some breakfast first," Angela said before turning to leave.
"Alright," Wendy's faint voice was drowned out by the sound of Angela closing the door.
Angela fed her some food and then took her to the hospital for a shot. After a lot of hassle, they were done by noon.
"Angela, take me home," Wendy said.
Angela said, "You're sick now; don't go back to your apartment. I'll take you to your parents' house."
