Chapter 376 Wendy and Caspian's Night Talk
Lillian squatted down to hug Wendy and asked with concern, "What happened? How did you end up in a wheelchair?"
"This is a bit complicated to explain." Wendy held onto Lillian's arm, trying to stand up and move to the sofa.
Caspian quickly walked over and helped Wendy to the sofa.
"You two chat slowly, I'll head out." Caspian didn't want to interrupt their reunion and left them some space to talk.
Lillian teased, "Thanks, Mr. Wade!"
Caspian chuckled and went to his room to change clothes.
At that moment, Lillian received a call from Patricia at home, saying, "Lillian, William has a fever. You should come back now."
"A fever?" Lillian was shocked. "He was fine when I left!"
"Yes, but just now when I was feeding William, he didn't want to eat and kept crying. I just took his temperature, and it's a low fever."
"I'll be right back!" Lillian hurriedly hung up the phone.
"What happened?" Wendy asked, "Is the baby sick?"
Lillian anxiously said, "William has a fever. I need to go back and see if he needs to go to the hospital for an injection." As she spoke, she pushed the food box she brought in front of Wendy and said, "These dishes are made by Kelly, all your favorites. You and Caspian can have them for lunch. I have to go."
Caspian came out of the room after changing clothes. He had heard the phone call and asked, "Is the baby sick?"
"Yes, I need to go back. You stay home and keep Wendy company. The food is ready; just heat it. Bye." Lillian gave a bunch of instructions and hurriedly left.
Lillian's quick departure left Wendy a bit down. Wendy worked from home every day and didn't have much gossip to share with Caspian. She was looking forward to Lillian's visit, but now she was gone.
Wendy rested her chin on her hand and sighed heavily.
"Caspian, are you hungry? It's already noon. How about we eat now?" Wendy couldn't help but swallow and asked him, pretending to be casual.
She hadn't eaten much for breakfast, and now with delicious food made by Kelly, how could she not want to eat?
Seeing her expression, Caspian smiled helplessly and said, "If you're hungry, let's eat now. I'll get the utensils."
Wendy took out the food box. The dishes were freshly made by Kelly and still warm. When she opened it, they were all her favorites.
"Kelly is so nice," Wendy said, touched.
Caspian nodded and said, "Indeed, she treats you like her own children."
He added with self-awareness, "Everything else is fine here, but the food is not up to par. Eat more. I really can't cook."
Wendy glanced at the messy living room and said bluntly, "You're not very good at housework either."
Caspian smiled wryly, "You're teasing me? If the doctor hadn't said you shouldn't see strangers recently, I would have called a cleaner long ago."
"Call one tomorrow. After Celeste's counseling, I'm much better and not as scared anymore," Wendy said.
"And you need to get your forehead wound dressed next week," Caspian reminded her.
He got up and went to the kitchen to get a few cans of beer.
"What? Now that I'm not afraid of strangers, you're planning to retire and hire a caregiver for me?" Wendy asked sarcastically.
Caspian took a sip and smiled, "You know me well. It would be more suitable to have a woman take care of you."
Wendy ate her lunch in big bites, not saying.
These past few days, she had gotten along well with him. She had gotten used to his presence, used to him appearing immediately whenever she called his name, used to him carrying her to the bathroom every night and then back to bed.
She thought they might develop feelings for each other. But now, it seemed her thoughts were naive. He could calmly remind her about changing her dress and suggest hiring a woman to take care of her, showing he still didn't like her. Meanwhile, her feelings for him had deepened.
"What are you thinking? Eat," Caspian couldn't help but ask when he saw her in a daze.
Wendy snapped back to reality, remained silent for a moment, and suddenly asked, "Caspian, have you thought about the future?"
He was puzzled, "What do you mean by the future?"
She thought and said, "I mean your future life, career, marriage. Do you have any plans?"
"Why ask this all of a sudden?" Caspian took a sip of beer and said, "I come from a wealthy family. For career, unless there's a special interest like Theodore, most of us just play around until we go back to inherit the family business. As for marriage, we can't escape arranged marriages. But Evelyn and I are an exception; she doesn't want to marry me!" He laughed self-deprecatingly.
"I'm just curious. Seeing you idle all day feels like a waste of time."
Wendy didn't dare to speak her mind. Asking about his plans was just to see if she could be part of his future, not wanting to give up on him!
"Am I?" Caspian didn't think he was idle. "I manage my family's chain of supermarkets. The daily reports are sent to my email by my secretary. Wendy, you can't just look at the surface. I work hard too."
His words surprised her. Living together these days, she only saw him playing games and nothing else. When did he look at the reports?
Maybe he did it at night without her knowing.
She said, "Then I misunderstood you. Sorry."
Caspian didn't mind and smiled, handing Wendy a can of beer, "Here, drink a little. It's okay. I understand your feelings the most right now. Drinking will make you feel better."
Wendy took the beer and scoffed, "You understand!"
"Of course I do. Unrequited love is like the brightest star in the sky, making you happy just to look at it, but you can never reach it." Caspian sighed and advised her, "Wendy, listen to me. Shift your focus. Look at the moonlight on the ground; it's also beautiful and heart-stirring."
Wendy took a sip of beer and teased, "Caspian, have you seen the moonlight on the ground? Hasn't the star in the sky already become the most beautiful moonlight in your heart?"
"Yes, she has become the most beautiful moonlight in my heart, and no one will surpass her." Caspian looked at Wendy with deep eyes, meaningfully.
