Chapter 345 There Was Joy in His Eyes
Angela and Lillian simultaneously glanced at Caspian, then looked back at Wendy.
Angela rested her chin on her hand, nodded slowly, and said, "Confessing isn't a bad idea; it's better to clarify things than to keep guessing on your own. If he doesn't have feelings for you, you can move on. I agree with confessing."
However, Lillian disagreed, "Wendy, I think you shouldn't act impulsively. After confessing, I'm afraid you might not even be friends anymore. Let's observe a bit more, and I'll also try to feel him out for you."
Angela retorted, "Why hesitate? Wendy, when you asked us, didn't you already have an answer in your heart? If you want to confess, then be brave and go for it."
Wendy lowered her head, picking at the tablecloth with her fingers. "I do want to confess, but I'm afraid of being rejected. That would be so awkward. I'm still not ready."
"If you're not ready, then perhaps it's best to wait a bit longer," Lillian said. "Spend more time together, and maybe he'll gradually start to like you."
Angela bluntly pointed out, "Stop fooling her. Everyone knows Caspian still likes Evelyn. Don't be fooled by his carefree appearance; he's very devoted." She then patted Wendy on the shoulder and added, "There's nothing awkward about being rejected. If you're not ready, then wait until you are. Besides being handsome, tall, and coming from a good family, Caspian isn't that exceptional. Think it over; he's not suitable for you."
Wendy was reluctant to acknowledge Angela's words. "Are he and I not suited for each other? I think we're quite alright," she murmured.
"Being friends is fine, but as lovers, you wouldn't fit into his social circle," Angela said with a cold smile. "Caspian looks like someone who indulges in his desires. Do you think you can accept that?"
"But he's so devoted to Evelyn. Would his private life be that chaotic?" Wendy asked, puzzled.
Angela smiled knowingly and explained, "Devotion and desire don't interfere with each other and have no direct correlation with loyalty either; sometimes it's socializing, sometimes it's just for fun. Given Evelyn's family background, she probably doesn't mind his behavior."
Hearing this, Wendy was stunned.
Also surprised by Angela's words, Lillian asked, "What about Alexander? Does he go to entertainment clubs behind my back when socializing?"
Angela gave her a sideways glance and knocked her on the head. "You're a married woman. Don't get involved in our conversation!"
Lillian rubbed her forehead, her eyes fixed on Alexander in the distance. "Angela, we had no idea until you mentioned it. Thank you for sharing with us. Tonight, I intend to thoroughly interrogate him."
"Lillian, what if it affects your relationship?" Wendy asked worriedly.
Angela teased, "Let her ask. I also want to know how Alexander will respond."
Wendy rested her chin on her hand and sighed. They were supposed to be discussing whether she should confess, but the topic had shifted. She couldn't help but look back at Caspian, who was chatting confidently with Theodore, wondering how he, so dashing, usually indulged himself.
Evelyn and Amos arrived, greeted everyone, and joined them. Lillian couldn't chat for long and, after a few words, went with Alexander to entertain the guests.
Angela, disliking Wendy's love-struck demeanor, also left. Suddenly, only Wendy was left with Evelyn.
"I'm late again," Evelyn said, taking a piece of bread from the snack tray. "I haven't eaten anything yet."
"Ms. Phillips, it's already 2 PM. Why haven't you eaten anything?" Wendy quickly poured her a cup of tea.
"Thank you." Evelyn quickly ate the bread and drank the tea. "Wendy, just call me Ms. Phillips at the company, but at gatherings like this, just call me Evelyn."
"Alright, Evelyn," Wendy obediently called her.
Evelyn smiled and continued, "This morning, I took Amos home to see my father. We talked business until noon. After that, we ran some errands and forgot to eat. Now that we have a moment to relax, I immediately feel hungry."
Hearing this, Wendy said, "I'll go to the kitchen and see if there's anything ready. I'll bring you something."
"No need. I'll just snack on something for now." Evelyn looked around and happened to catch Caspian's eye. They exchanged a slight smile.
From the side, Wendy saw the joy in Caspian's eyes; his smile, though faint, conveyed genuine happiness, as if he was trying to control it and not show it too obviously.
Feeling a pang of sadness, Wendy had hoped Caspian would look at her after seeing Evelyn, but he turned back to continue chatting with Theodore without giving her any glance. At that moment, she felt both envy and a bit of jealousy towards Evelyn.
Theodore chuckled and said to Caspian, "You've been distracted all this time, looking around. Is it because you saw Evelyn?"
Caspian didn't deny it and said unhappily, "She always arrives so late. I wonder what she's busy with."
"What else? Busy falling in love, I suppose," Theodore teased.
Caspian sneered, "How can Amos be worthy of Evelyn? They'll break up sooner or later!"
"Really?" Theodore raised an eyebrow in surprise but said no more.
After chatting with Alexander for a bit, Amos stood alone by the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the flowers on the trellis.
"Mr. Dalton, why are you standing here alone?" Caspian walked over with a feigned smile and stood beside him.
Amos smiled. "I was admiring the flowers. I thought of growing some for Evelyn. She would love them."
"Girls do love bright flowers," Caspian said, walking closer and casually plucking a flower, twirling it in his hand. "Not just Evelyn, Ms. Lawson would probably like them too, right?"
Amos's face changed dramatically, but he tried to stay calm. "Mr. Wade, I don't understand what you're saying."
"I'm just talking casually," Caspian said with a half-smile.
Feeling a surge of fear, Amos thought, 'How does Caspian know about my affairs? Has he investigated me? Will he tell Evelyn? I need to come up with a plan quickly. Even if Caspian tells Evelyn, I can't let her believe it.
