Chapter 199 Lillian, you're Really Understanding
Taylor scrunched up her face and dodged the hand aiming for her forehead. "If you wanna talk, just talk. Keep your hands to yourself!"
"And what if I don't? I'll poke you if I feel like it!" Shae, even more ticked off, tried to jab her forehead again.
"Back off!" Taylor swatted her hand away. "It's not as big a deal as you're making it!"
Shae scoffed. "Not a big deal? The video doesn't have your name on it, so of course, it's not a big deal for you!"
Taylor shot her a glare. "I posted on Facebook, so yeah, I gotta deal with it!" She chugged her drink.
"So, what's the plan now?" Taylor asked.
Shae, clearly annoyed, shot back, "How should I know?"
She sighed. "Lillian's not working right now, so we can't do anything. Just wait for my update."
Taylor threw out an idea, "I know a guy who knows some sketchy people. What if we, like, kidnap her?"
"Terrible idea," Shae said. "Alex's got his own crew. If we kidnap her, it'll blow up in our faces, and we'll be screwed."
"Alex?" Taylor asked, dripping with sarcasm. "You call him that like you're all buddy-buddy? You two aren't even a thing."
"If you've got time to be jealous, use it to figure out how to mess with them," Shae rolled her eyes. "Don't do anything stupid. Run everything by me first. Kidnapping is off the table."
Taylor didn't like her tone but couldn't come up with anything better. "Fine, whatever."
Shae left. Taylor watched her go and muttered, "Who do you think you are, acting all superior? You think you can boss me around?"
She took another sip of her drink, grabbed her phone, and dialed a number. Moments later, she giggled, "It's been ages since you called me. I miss you."
When Lillian got home, Luke ran over and hugged her. "Lillian, you're finally back."
"Home sweet home," Lillian said with a smug smile.
Alexander told Kelly, "You and Melvin have been busting your butts these past two days. Get some rest."
Kelly replied, "Sure thing, Mr. Sinclair. Holler if you need anything."
Lillian, sandwiched between the two guys, headed back to her room. She flopped onto the bed and asked Luke, "While I was gone, did you sleep by yourself at night?"
"Yep! I'm not scared at all now!" Luke said, trying to sound brave.
"Atta boy!" She praised him.
When it was bedtime, Luke wanted Lillian to tuck him in, so he asked Alexander. Seeing Luke's hopeful eyes, Alexander smiled and agreed.
Lillian happily went to Luke's room. After reading him a few lines from a story, she heard his light snores. She tucked him in and went back to her room.
They turned off the lights and settled in. Alexander pulled the blanket over her and wrapped her in his arms.
"Why do you always snuggle up to me when we sleep?" Alexander's deep voice whispered in her ear.
Lillian felt his warm breath, making her ear tingle and turn red. Her heart raced as she softly asked, "Why are we sharing one blanket?"
"Another blanket just takes up space," Alexander chuckled. "Plus, it's way more convenient to hold you like this."
Lillian giggled softly, feeling a bit shy, and stayed quiet.
He took her hand and gently placed it on her belly. "Hey, little one, be good in there and come out healthy. Later, I'll teach you to swim, ride horses, and even fly planes."
"Fly planes?" Lillian turned her head slightly, surprised. "You can fly planes? That's pretty awesome."
"Yeah, I picked it up a while back," Alexander said. "Once the baby’s here, I'll take you flying."
Lillian laughed heartily. "That sounds like a blast."
"Did you go to college abroad?" she asked.
"Lindell University," Alexander replied.
"I went to Rihegde University," Lillian said, feeling a bit self-conscious. "There's a pretty big gap between us!"
Alexander gently kissed the top of her head. "Don't say that. There's no gap between us. We just come from different backgrounds. We're both just chasing our dreams."
"You're really good at making people feel better," Lillian said, playfully scratching his palm. "When we first met, you weren't like this."
Alexander, with a hint of guilt, said, "Back then, we weren't this close."
Lillian thought for a moment, then turned to him, looking into his bright eyes. "Do you like me because of the baby?"
Alexander pondered. "Maybe. Maybe I liked you before you got pregnant and just didn't realize it. Otherwise, why would it bug me to see you with other guys?"
"That's just your male possessiveness, right? You think I'm your property. It's not really love," Lillian analyzed.
Alexander blinked and thought for a moment. "You're wrong. There is possessiveness, but it's more about jealousy. Seeing you smile at Michael makes me mad. If I didn't like you, I'd probably be indifferent and just warn you to stay away from him."
Lillian loved hearing Alexander share his thoughts and smiled mischievously.
"Why are you smiling?" Alexander smiled too, relieved. "I thought you'd be mad."
"Mad that you like me because of the baby?" Lillian asked. "I'm not that petty. We didn't fall in love at first sight, and you didn't secretly love me. How could you fall in love with me right after we started living together? That's impossible. I'm already happy you had feelings for me before."
Alexander was surprised by her thoughts, his eyes showing amazement. "Lily, you're really understanding."
Lillian remarked, "Good that you know."
He inquired, "I have a question. Can you tell me when you started liking me? It wasn't love at first sight, was it?"
She remarked, "I'm tired. I want to sleep. Goodnight."
Alexander said, "Don't turn away. Answer me before you sleep."
They kept talking, drawing closer to each other's hearts.
