Chapter 426 Jessica's Instructions

"Dad, why did Mom call him over?" Wendy asked in a hushed voice. "He's not family, and I've broken up with him. What's there to talk about with him?"

Patrick sighed and said, "Your mother feels like she might not get better, so she's making sure to talk to everyone she can."

"What could she possibly have to say to Caspian?" she asked, puzzled.

Caspian said, "I guess Jessica wants to tell me not to bother you anymore."

"Go on in, don't keep Jessica waiting," Patrick said.

Caspian entered the hospital room and gently closed the door behind him.

Wendy sighed and said, "Dad, I never thought Mom would break down like this. I always thought she was so strong and tough, that nothing could easily defeat her."

"Getting older is part of it; also, she really can't let go of you."

"Is it because I don't have a boyfriend, haven't gotten married, or had kids? Are those the regrets Mom has?" Wendy asked softly, looking down.

Patrick said, "Wendy, you need to understand your mother's feelings. As parents, we all want to see our children find a good partner. Of course, it's not just that; you're her daughter, and she wants the best for you in every way."

"It's just a simple surgery; Mom will be fine," Wendy said, turning her head away and blinking back tears.

In the hospital room, Caspian sat by the bed, waiting for Jessica to speak.

Jessica leaned against the bed, arms crossed, staring intently at Caspian.

"Let me ask you, have you and Wendy gotten back together?" she suddenly asked.

Caspian shook his head honestly and said, "No."

"Caspian, you know I was against you two dating from the start. Although it was a bit of a rocky road, you broke up, and I'm quite satisfied with that."

"Now I'm asking you, have you two rekindled your relationship? Are you sneaking around behind my back?" Jessica asked sternly.

Caspian said, "Jessica, nothing is going on. Wendy and I are just friends now."

"Just friends? Do you think I'm old and senile? If you two weren't back together, would you have flown all the way here? Taking care of me and Patrick? If you had no intentions, would you do all this?"

"Jessica, what exactly do you want to say to me? Do you want me to stay away from Wendy?"

Jessica sighed deeply and said, "I don't even know where I'll be tomorrow, so how can I control you two? What I want to say is, if you're with Wendy, treat her well. I know you rich folks like to play around, but Wendy is my precious daughter. If you mess with her, you won't get off easy!"

"Jessica, what are you talking about? You won't have any problems," Caspian said quickly.

Jessica said, "I know what I'm saying. But you, did you remember what I said?"

"Jessica, Wendy, and I aren't back together. If we do get back together in the future, I promise to treat her well and never do anything to hurt her!"

"Even now, you won't tell me the truth," Jessica said, waving her hand. "Forget it, call Wendy in."

Caspian got up and left.

"What did my mom say to you?" Wendy asked.

"Nothing much, it's your turn to go in," Caspian said, smiling as he patted her head, then sat down next to Patrick.

Wendy walked in. Jessica was looking out the window. Seeing Jessica's haggard and sorrowful face, she sat down by the bed.

"Mom," she called softly.

Jessica turned her gaze back and saw her daughter and a gentle smile appeared on her lips. She said softly, "Come, chat with me."

Wendy held Jessica's hand and said guiltily, "Mom, we haven't chatted in a long time."

"Yeah, you've grown up and have your things to do every day," Jessica said with a smile.

"This past year, you've been quite rebellious," Jessica continued. "But your dad and I have discussed it at home. We were too strict with you when you were young, which is why you're so rebellious now. In this regard, we didn't do well."

"Mom, don't say that. It's my fault for being immature," Wendy said softly, looking down at her mother's hand.

Jessica gently patted her head and said, "You're grown up now. We shouldn't interfere too much in your life. If you like Caspian, then be with him. I agree with you two, no more sneaking around."

"Mom, we're not back together," Wendy said, rubbing Jessica's hand. "We're just friends now, really, I'm not lying to you."

Jessica smiled and said, "You're innocent and kind. I'm always afraid you'll be bullied or deceived. If I'm not around, having someone to take care of you is better than no one. Although I don't like his family background, I've seen his character these past few days. I know you still like him."

Wendy said urgently, "You always say these unlucky things. The surgery will be fine! Don't worry about me. I don't like him anymore, and I don't need him to take care of me. I can take care of myself."

"Mom, I know that when people face illness, they feel helpless and scared. Don't be pessimistic. Dad and I are both here with you, waiting for you to come out of the operating room safely. Stop saying these things; I don't like hearing them."

Jessica said, "I'm getting old, and I can't handle things like I used to. I have to be prepared for everything. Even if you don't like hearing it, I have to tell you. You can't neglect your dad. Don't send him to a nursing home. If he wants to find another wife, don't oppose it. As long as he's happy, let him be."

"Okay, I understand," Wendy said helplessly.

Jessica pulled out a bank card from under her pillow and put it in Wendy's hand, saying, "This is the money I've saved for you. Your dad doesn't know about it. Take it and don't tell your dad. There's a considerable amount in there. Use it to do what you want, consider it my sponsorship."

"Mom," Wendy choked, unable to speak.

"Your well-being is my greatest wish," Jessica said. "Alright, go call the two outside in."

Wendy hugged Jessica and said tearfully, "Mom, you're so annoying, saying all these things. You'll be fine!"

Two days later, it was time for Jessica's surgery. The three of them kept encouraging her as she was wheeled in.

Outside the operating room, Wendy was restless and couldn't help but ask Caspian, "There shouldn't be any problems, right?"

Caspian always replied softly, "Don't worry, everything will be fine."
