Chapter 189 Don't be Afraid, I'm here with you!
Kelly and Melvin were strolling with Lillian towards Swan Lake when they heard Luke bawling from a distance. Lillian's heart skipped a beat, and she bolted ahead.
"Lillian!" Kelly shouted, trying to slow her down, but it was useless. She was freaked out.
Melvin chimed in, "Hurry up. Luke's crying sounds serious."
Even though they were in their sixties, they pushed themselves to run.
Lillian spotted Oscar and dropped to her knees beside him, tears streaming down her face. Her hands were shaking, and she just kept calling his name, "Oscar! Oscar!"
Kelly rushed over, hugged Luke, and then noticed Emily standing nearby. She demanded, "What happened? Spill it!"
Emily, looking scared and guilty, stammered, "I don't know."
Just then, the ambulance showed up. The medics quickly worked on Oscar, got him on a stretcher, and loaded him into the ambulance. Lillian, still crying, climbed in with him.
Kelly said, "Melvin, take Luke home. I'll head to the hospital with her."
Luke, wiping his tears, said, "Kelly, it was her. She pushed Oscar!"
Kelly, fuming, asked, "Why did you push Oscar? What were you thinking?"
"I didn't," Emily cried, terrified by Kelly's anger.
Kelly grabbed her wrist, "Cut the tears. You're coming to the hospital. If anything happens to Oscar, it's on you!"
In the ambulance, Oscar was given an oxygen mask. After some emergency treatment, he was temporarily stable. Lillian, heartbroken and scared, kept crying. The nurse tried to comfort her, but it didn't help.
"Oscar," she sobbed, clutching his hand tightly.
Terrified that Oscar might die, Lillian called Alexander.
He picked up quickly, and it sounded noisy on his end, like he was at dinner. "Lily."
"Alexander!" Lillian cried out.
"What's wrong? What happened?" Alexander's heart sank hearing her cries. He asked anxiously.
"Alexander, Oscar, he..." Lillian could barely speak through her tears.
Relieved that Lillian wasn't hurt, Alexander tried to calm her, "Don't cry. Tell me slowly. What happened to Oscar?"
"Oscar had a heart attack! We're in the ambulance now!" Lillian cried. "What should I do? I'm so scared. Will Oscar die?"
Shocked but composed, Alexander said, "Lily, listen. Don't cry. If Oscar hears you, he'll worry. End the call and tell the driver to go to Whispering Hospital. I'll meet you there."
"Okay, I got it," Lillian sobbed.
Alexander reassured her, "Don't be scared. You'll see me soon, okay?"
Lillian ended the call and told the doctor, "Can we go to Whispering Hospital?"
The doctor agreed and informed the driver.
After calling Alexander, Lillian calmed down a bit, her loud crying turning into soft sobs.
The nurse asked, "Feeling better after calling your boyfriend?"
Lillian kept her eyes on Oscar and nodded absentmindedly.
When the ambulance arrived at the hospital, Lillian got out and immediately saw Alexander. Her eyes welled up, and she started crying again.
Alexander wrapped his arm around her shoulder, giving her a comforting pat. "It's okay. I'm here with you."
He had already set everything up at the hospital. Oscar was whisked straight into the operating room. Outside, Alexander stayed glued to Lillian's side, holding her hand tight.
"Don't worry. Oscar's gonna be fine," Alexander reassured her.
Lillian's eyes were all teary. "I feel so guilty. Oscar never had a happy life and was always so sensible. If I could, I'd give him my heart."
Alexander comforted her, "Don't beat yourself up. Things are getting better. I'll get the surgery sorted ASAP."
Lillian looked at him, her tear-filled eyes full of emotion. "It's all thanks to you that he's getting better."
Alexander smiled, wiping away her tears. "It's fate."
Lillian felt a stir in her heart, leaning on his shoulder. "Do you think Oscar will make it? Will he be okay?"
Alexander held her shoulder, comforting her, "Trust me. Oscar's gonna be fine!"
Hearing that, Lillian felt more at ease. "I trust you and Oscar."
Kelly and Emily hurried over, with Emily crying, probably after getting an earful from Kelly on the way.
"Mr. Sinclair," Kelly called out.
Alexander looked at Emily and asked, "What's up with her?"
Kelly replied, "She said she ran into Oscar in the neighborhood, and they had an argument. She got mad and pushed Oscar, which triggered his heart attack. We've notified Mr. Roberts."
Lillian stood up angrily and asked loudly, "What's your beef with him? Why are you doing this to him? Is it because of what happened last time in the suburbs? Was it necessary? He has a serious heart condition. That push could have killed him!"
Having been scolded repeatedly, Emily couldn't hold it in anymore and angrily said, "But I didn't know he was sick! You all keep blaming me. I'm wrong! Since it's already happened, what can I do? I regret it too!"
With that, she squatted down, hugged her knees, and cried again.
"Emily." Michael arrived and saw Emily crying on the ground. He quickly walked over.
Emily saw Michael and threw herself into his arms, feeling wronged.
Michael gently patted her back. "Don't cry. I'm here now."
Emily cried. "They're all ganging up on me."
Michael had Emily sit aside to rest and then asked, "What's going on?"
Alexander repeated what Kelly had said. After listening, Michael went to ask Emily. She hesitated for a moment, then nodded and admitted, "I did push him."
Michael said to Alexander, "Emily was indeed wrong. We are willing to take full responsibility. Whatever Mr. Sinclair demands, just tell me."
Alexander said, "Lillian will decide this matter."
Michael nodded and looked at Lillian, asking, "Mrs. Sinclair, what compensation do you require?"
Lillian, still fuming, said, "We don't want compensation. We just want her to apologize and stay far away from Oscar in the future, with no further contact!"
