Chapter 220 Adam's Obstruction
Lloyd felt something was off and asked, "Adam, do you know this person?"
Adam shot back, "Lloyd, who put you up to this? Do you even know who she is?"
"Isn't she just some pregnant mistress?" Lloyd chuckled.
Adam tossed the photo on the table. "Lloyd, if you don't know her, let me fill you in. You know Alexander from the Whale Group, right?"
"Yeah, I know him. Did some business with him a few years back," Lloyd said, frowning. "Are you saying this woman is his mistress? I haven't heard he's married. It's not in the news."
"Some people get married and keep it on the down-low," Adam said. "Alexander's been married for a while. His wife, Lillian, is my cousin."
"He's married?" Lloyd was shocked. "So, this woman is your cousin?" He pointed at the woman in the photo.
Adam nodded. "Alexander hasn't announced it, but Lillian is pregnant. Whoever hired you is probably jealous of her."
Lloyd cursed under his breath, looking deep in thought.
Adam continued, "Lloyd, it's good you came to me. If it were someone else, you'd be in big trouble. We all know Alexander's influence. If you messed with Lillian, he'd crush us. He only respects me because of Lillian."
Lloyd nodded repeatedly. "Is Lillian that impressive? How did she end up with Alexander?"
Adam understood the implication but didn't elaborate. He just gave a brief explanation.
Lloyd tossed an envelope from his bag to Adam. "Take this."
Adam took the envelope and pocketed it. "Lloyd, who hired you?"
Lloyd hesitated, then told him the truth.
That night, Lillian indulged in some Mexican food she had been craving. Alexander, worried she might feel uncomfortable, took her for a walk.
After putting Luke to bed, they were about to sleep when Alexander's phone rang. Lillian glanced at it. "Adam? Why is he calling so late?"
Alexander answered, and Adam said, "Find a place where Lillian can't hear you."
"Where are you?" Alexander asked, stepping out of the bedroom.
Lillian, not curious, thought, 'What does Adam want? Probably a job change or money.'
On the living room sofa, Alexander asked, "What's up? Speak."
Adam recounted the night's events. "Lillian's pregnancy hasn't been easy. You can't let anything happen to her."
Alexander's face darkened with anger. Taylor had some nerve messing with his people!
"I got it," Alexander said coldly. "If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up."
"Wait," Adam interrupted. "I gave you important info. Can you get me out of the warehouse? This job is killing me!"
"Everyone else manages. Why can't you?" Alexander snapped and hung up.
Adam glared at his phone, muttering, "Alexander, are you just using me? If it weren't for Lillian, I...I..."
He couldn't finish his sentence. Frustrated, he hailed a cab and went home.
Lola had just returned and was eating. Seeing Adam, she asked, "Have you eaten?"
"Why are you back so late again? What kind of job makes you work overtime every day?" Adam asked, sitting down. "Mom, get me some utensils too."
Lola angrily stabbed her food. "It's Shae. She uses her good relationship with the supervisor to dump all the work on me."
"Doesn't the supervisor have a boss? Why don't you report her?" Adam asked, annoyed.
"Shae is Alexander's ex-girlfriend's sister. Everyone knows that. She spreads rumors about her close relationship with Alexander, and the bosses don't want trouble," Lola explained.
Adam slammed his fork down. "And you're Alexander's wife's sister! Your relationship is even closer! Doesn't anyone know?"
"They don't know Alexander is married," Lola replied.
Talking about Alexander made Lola angry again, and she recounted how Lillian had looked at her today.
"Do you think Lillian doesn't want Alexander to help?" Lola asked.
Adam sighed. "Lola, Lillian has it tough too. Let's not make things harder for her."
"What's wrong with you?" Lola asked.
"I'm just speaking from the heart!" Adam said emotionally. "Isn't it just Shae making things difficult for you? I'll handle it! How dare she bully you. It's too much!"
"I can handle it myself; I don't need your help," Lola said, worried Adam might do something rash.
"Don't worry. I know what I'm doing!" Adam assured her.
Lloyd returned home to find Taylor sleeping on the sofa. He quickly pulled her up.
Taylor woke up in shock. "You're back."
Lloyd slapped her hard.
Taylor, stunned and holding her face, asked in fear, "What are you doing?"
"What am I doing? You almost got me killed!" Lloyd said, slapping her again.
"You wanted me to go after Alexander's wife. You have some nerve! Luckily, I was warned, or you'd have gotten me killed!" Lloyd put his hands on his hips, gritting his teeth. "Get out tonight! Get out!"
Taylor, realizing he knew, didn't hide it anymore and said defiantly, "If you don't want to make money, I'll find someone else. There are plenty of people willing to do it. You coward!"
