Chapter 417 This Apple Won't Do

Tom was grinning and saying a few more things on the phone, which only made Caspian more annoyed!

"Stop joking with me! Aaron's behavior was despicable, Wendy shouldn't have been hurt, you need to come back soon!" Caspian said irritably.

Wendy glanced at him, pursed her lips, and said nothing.

Caspian said more things before hanging up the phone.

"Tom will take some time to come back. When he does, I'll make him apologize to you!" Caspian said.

Wendy said softly, "He didn't do anything wrong, it was Aaron who was at fault. Caspian, you don't need to stand up for me."

"If it weren't for his introduction, would you have met Aaron? You might be too embarrassed to say anything, but I have to stand up for you!" Caspian said indignantly.

Wendy frowned slightly, looking at him with a complex expression, and said sincerely, "Caspian, you don't need to stand up for me, or people might misunderstand."

Caspian stared straight ahead, saying nothing, but his face showed displeasure. Wendy withdrew her gaze and turned to look out the window, remaining silent.

Wendy disliked Caspian's actions. If he didn't love her, he shouldn't do things that could easily be misunderstood. Keeping a distance would be better!

After that, they didn't speak again and drove to the studio.

"Thank you for the ride, drive safely, bye." Wendy gave him a slight smile, unbuckled her seatbelt, and got out of the car.

Coincidentally, Evelyn walked over from behind and saw her getting out of Caspian's car. She greeted her with a smile, "Wendy, good morning."

She peeked into the car and said, "Caspian brought you here."

"Yeah, we ran into each other on the way."

"Wait a moment, I need to say something to him." Evelyn bent down and said to Caspian, "I hired a caregiver for my dad. He feels sorry seeing you at the hospital every day. Besides, I feel bad for always troubling you. By the way, my mom made blueberry muffins for you this morning. You love her muffins the most. Since you're here, I'll go get them for you."

"It's no trouble at all, thank Elodie for me," Caspian said with a smile.

Wendy watched their interaction from the side, feeling envious. 'Family connections are great; they know each other well, and even if they part ways, there's a good chance they'll reconcile in the future.'

"Let's go, Wendy," Evelyn said to her. "I wanted to ask you, did you send the design plans for the Seine River Café before you left work yesterday? And did you make the revisions for the client who was unhappy with the design?"

Wendy nodded repeatedly, "I sent what needed to be sent and made the necessary revisions. Don't worry."

"Alright, I trust your ability." They chatted as they walked inside.

Just before going in, Wendy inexplicably turned to look at Caspian. To her surprise, Caspian was also looking at her. Their gazes met. Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly turned back and went inside.

Caspian smiled and noticed an apple on the dashboard. He picked it up, remembering that Wendy had been holding an apple outside the car and had probably placed it on the dashboard when she got in.

He played with the apple in his hand, looking at it from different angles, and then brought it to his nose to sniff. The fruity aroma filled his nostrils.

Evelyn returned with a lunchbox and handed it to him through the car window, "Here you go."

"Thanks, Elodie. Even when she is not feeling well, she still think of making muffins for me." Caspian took it and placed it on the passenger seat.

"You've helped solve most of the problems, so my mom is relieved and feeling better. These muffins are Elodie's way of thanking you."

"Alright, I'm off then. Call me if you need anything." Caspian made a move to start the car.

Evelyn was about to get up when she noticed the apple on the dashboard. She reached for it and said, "Give it to me!"

Caspian quickly snatched it away and said, "This apple is special. If you like apples, I'll buy you some another day."

Evelyn laughed, "What's so special about this apple? Is it made of gold?"

"It's worth more than gold, priceless," Caspian said smugly, driving away.

Evelyn was puzzled and scoffed, "What's so special about that apple!"

In a small house in Aetherland, Brenda was eating the takeout Amos had brought back and said irritably, "We eat this junk every day. When can we leave this place?"

"I told you to wait a bit longer. The police are still looking for us. What if we get caught? I don't want to get caught before spending any of the money we risked our lives for!" Amos said impatiently, lighting a cigarette.

Brenda couldn't argue and could only complain, "How long do we have to wait? We never had to do this before."

"Let me ask you, did we ever deal with such a large amount before? The people you scammed before just accepted it because the amounts were small. This time it's so much, it was on TV, do you think the Phillips family wouldn't report it and look for us?"

"Then we'll just hide." Brenda threw her takeout box on the table and lay down on the bed in frustration.

Amos smoked, squinting as he looked outside, planning their next escape route.

Two days later, Tom returned from out of town. The first thing he did when he got to Ridge was call Wendy to apologize.

"Wendy, I'm sorry about what happened. I apologize," Tom said. "Let me take you out to dinner as an apology."

It was almost the end of the workday, and Wendy was busy organizing her things. She said, "Tom, you don't have to do that. It wasn't your fault, you don't need to take me out to dinner."

"But I insist!" Tom said. "I had a part in this too. I introduced you to him without knowing his character. It's largely my responsibility. Please don't refuse, let me take you out to dinner, I'm begging you."

Wendy was surprised to hear this. She thought he was just being polite, but now it seemed he genuinely wanted to take her out.

"Alright then, I'm about to get off work. Where should we meet?"

Tom laughed and said, "I've already booked a place. I'll send you the address, and I'll wait for you at the restaurant."

"Okay, see you in a bit," Wendy said and hung up the phone.

Tom turned to Caspian, who was sitting at his desk, and asked, "Are you satisfied now?"

"Are you still reluctant? Wendy is lucky that Aaron was exposed by the media, avoiding a disaster. If they had gotten married, Wendy would have been in big trouble!"

Caspian scolded him angrily, "I knew something was off from the start, but you insisted on introducing her to someone. Why are you so concerned about whether Wendy has a boyfriend? What do you mean by that?"

"Bro, I should be asking you what you mean. Why are you so worried about Wendy? Could it be that you like her?" Tom asked casually.
