Chapter 334 Knowledge Was Power
Though Jessica could be quite sharp-tongued, she genuinely didn't want to upset Wendy. Ever since Wendy moved out, she had felt a bit empty inside.
Caspian chatted with Patrick about everything—news, housing prices, stocks, literature. They got along well, and their views often coincided, which made Patrick so happy that he drank a lot and talked more and more, quickly closing the gap between them.
"Look at your father. His stance is so indecisive; tell him what he wants to hear, and his stern face softens, breaking into a joyful smile." Jessica snorted.
Wendy cheerfully watched them chat and said, "Mom, look how happy Dad is. It shows he and Caspian hit it off. Can you believe Caspian has read so many literary works? He's truly impressive."
"Wendy, are you getting used to sharing an apartment with your colleagues?" Jessica changed the topic and asked with concern.
"It's fine; we usually just stay in our rooms," Wendy replied.
"Don't have sex with Caspian! In the end, it's the girl who suffers. If you don't listen to me on this, you'll regret it if you break up!" Jessica said sternly.
Wendy seriously promised Jessica, "Mom, I have my principles on this matter. I will protect myself. Don't worry!"
Seeing Wendy's firm promise, Jessica felt a bit relieved and said, "Then I'll trust you."
After dinner, Patrick took Caspian to his room and brought out a painting to appreciate together. Wendy found it quite puzzling. She had never noticed Caspian's artistic sensibilities before, and now he seemed like a completely different person.
Patrick came out of the room, patting Caspian on the shoulder, and couldn't help but praise him, "You're really good. It's rare for someone your age to know these things."
"Mr. Lewis, I've just scratched the surface, unlike you, who have dug deep into it. I'll get a lot to learn from you." Caspian humbly replied.
His words made Patrick laugh heartily. "It's good to see young folks eager to learn. Come back with Wendy on the weekends, and I'll show you the ropes."
Jessica and Wendy exchanged glances, wondering if things were progressing a bit too quickly.
Wendy clung to Patrick's arm and playfully asked, "Dad, what are you going to teach him? I want to learn too."
"You should learn how not to make your mother and me angry first!" Patrick tapped her forehead with his finger.
Jessica said, "It's getting late, Wendy. You should head back."
Caspian said to them, "We'll come visit you again this weekend."
"Alright," Patrick said seriously.
Wendy took the food Jessica had packed and left with Caspian. Jessica and Patrick watched them get into the car from the balcony, their eyes welling up with emotion.
In the car, Wendy glanced sideways at Caspian and said leisurely, "I didn't expect Mr. Wade to have read so much literature."
Caspian chuckled, "Cut the condescending attitude, will you? When I was diving into literary works, you were still playing in the sandbox."
Wendy said, "It's not that I look down on you; reading a few classic literary works is pretty standard. But ever since I met you, you've had this devil-may-care attitude. Who would've thought you had another side to you, switching gears so effortlessly?"
"Never judge a book by its cover!" Caspian said arrogantly, shaking his leg with pride. "This is the power of knowledge; it's already succeeded in winning your father's approval."
"Don't try so hard to please them next time. If my mom changes her mind and agrees to us being together, what will you do then?" Wendy said jokingly, expressing her concern.
"Alright, I'll be more careful. Next time, I'll go against your mom and make her dislike me," Caspian said seriously.
When they reached Wendy's place, she said, "Alright, you can go back now."
Caspian nodded but didn't move.
"Is there something else?" she asked, puzzled.
The sensor light in the corridor suddenly went out. He cleared his throat and said to her, "If you ever have any trouble or bad news, just come to me. Don't hesitate, and don't hold back, alright?"
Wendy blinked and said, "I'm fine now.."
Caspian looked at her, then raised his hand to ruffle her hair and said with a smile, "It's best if you are fine. Go inside, goodnight."
After leaving Wendy's place, Caspian took out his phone and dialed a number as he walked.
Wendy watched him from upstairs, certain that there was something unusual about him earlier; he seemed hesitant as if he had something more to say. She wondered what he meant by "trouble".
A few days later, Samantha was discharged from the hospital. As soon as she got home, she changed clothes, packed her bags, and went on a trip with some friends.
Leah was left alone at home, so she drove straight to Alexander's place. She wanted to see Kevin more often.
Seeing her standing at the door with several suitcases, Lillian took a moment to compose herself and then smiled. "Leah, come on in. Alexander just called me and told me everything. Feel free to stay here as long as you need. If you need anything, just let Kelly know."
"I'm going to pick a room on the third floor." Before entering the elevator, Leah turned back and asked, "Are there any empty rooms on the third floor?"
"The third floor is where Oscar and Lucas live, and there are still some vacant rooms. You can stay on that floor, and you can even play games together." Lillian replied.
"Who wants to play with Lucas? I'm not familiar with Oscar!" Leah said arrogantly, lifting her head as she entered the elevator.
Lillian smiled wryly, thinking this house was getting more crowded and lively.
In a private room at a coffee shop, Amy tightly gripped her coffee cup, looking down and seemingly trying hard to hold something back.
Jared, sitting next to her, comforted her and then looked up at Paula and Colin across the table. "Please don't bring up the past anymore. No more talk of car accidents or plastic surgery. Amy can't take it!"
Colin and Paula quickly said, "Okay, we won't mention it."
Paula, with tears in her eyes, grabbed Amy's hand and asked with concern, "How has it been only a few months since we last saw each other, and yet you seem to be in such poor spirits? I still remember how lively and energetic you were when you first came back. What happened?"
Amy forcefully pulled her hand away and said with a trembling voice, "You should go. I have nothing to talk about with you!"
