Chapter 54 Alexander Went on a Business Trip
Passing by Lillian, Alexander carried a faint scent of cologne. "I cooked ravioli this morning, the ones Kelly made," Lillian announced as she followed Alexander.
Acknowledging her, Alexander spoke, "Kevin has already spoken to the head of the marketing department; during my business trip, your working hours will be from nine in the morning to three in the afternoon. A chauffeur will take care of you and Lucas."
"Understood," Lillian responded, standing near the dining table as Alexander continued with his instructions.
"I didn't realize your cooking was so terrible. I'll have one of the staff from Sinclair old mansion come over and cook for you until Kelly returns," Alexander said after sampling the ravioli. He added, "Also, you need to send me daily videos of Lucas's studies. He must study hard in each and every subject."
"Mr. Sinclair, I have a question," Lillian inquired, "How long will you be away on your trip?"
"What are you so happy about, knowing I'm not at home? How do you plan to celebrate?" Alexander glanced at Lillian and asked with a cold voice.
Lillian bit her lip, "I was just asking. You've scheduled our lives so precisely, you'll probably be gone for a while on your trip, right?"
Alexander didn't answer Lillian's question but continued, "I'm leaving Lucas in your care. Take good care of him. If anything happens, be prepared to be punished."
"You can count on me. Without you mentioning it, I would still take good care of Lucas."
Alexander looked up, displeased, and glanced at Lillian.
"I've left four bodyguards in the yard, so you don't have to worry about safety at night."
It was clear how thorough Alexander was. A woman and a child alone in a large house might naturally feel scared, but he had arranged everything. This made Lillian's regard for him grow a little.
After giving his instructions, Alexander put down his fork and stopped eating.
"Alright, I need to head to the airport. Don't cause any trouble at home, and take good care of Lucas. Those are the only two things I ask of you. Got it?" Alexander asked Lillian as he walked out of the dining room.
"Got it!" Lillian answered sincerely.
Watching Alexander's car leave, Lillian couldn't contain her excitement. As soon as she got inside, she swung her arms joyfully. Though this wasn't Lillian's home, and the homeowner had just left on a business trip, her reaction wasn't the best. However, staying here had felt so oppressive that feeling happy was her instinctual response.
"Lucas, time to get up!" Lillian bounded up the stairs cheerfully.
She could go to work an hour later and had a driver to take her to the office, saving her time and much more pleasant than taking the subway.
"I'm living so comfortably lately and I'm afraid I won't be able to readjust once Alexander gets back," Lillian muttered as she looked out the window.
"What did you say, Lillian?" Lucas asked, poking his head around.
"Ah, nothing. I was just worried you might not be used to Alexander being away and that you'd miss him," Lillian deflectingly replied.
Hugging Lillian's arm affectionately, Lucas said, "I have you with me! We can video call Alexander every day so I won't miss him too much."
"He'd be sad if he heard that."
"Not at all. Alexander is the strongest and bravest person ever."
In Lucas's heart, Alexander held a much more significant place than his own father.
"Lucas, do you miss mom and dad?"
A flash of pain crossed Lucas's eyes, but then he feigned nonchalance to mask his sadness. Pretending not to care, Lucas replied, "Not really, they don't miss me either."
Lillian raised her eyebrows, feeling a twinge of regret for having asked Lucas the question.
Quickly changing the subject, Lillian said to Lucas, "Oh, by the way, Alexander called a housekeeper from the Sincliair old mansion, and she should be arriving soon. What would you like for dinner tonight? I'll give her a call and let her know."
"Is it Alice, right? She knows what I like; you don't need to tell her," Lucas confirmed with certainty.
"I don't know if it's Alice for sure, but Alexander knows you so well, it's probably her that he sent," Lillian countered.
The car pulled up in front of the school, and Lillian said to Lucas, "I'll pick you up after class tonight. Bye."
"Bye, Lillian." Lucas stepped forward, wrapped his arms around Lillian's neck, and kissed her cheek.
Lillian felt a warm glow inside as she watched Lucas enter the school.
Back at the marketing department, everyone was anxiously working away. After Lillian arrived, she silently took her seat. Everything that needed her attention was already laid out on her desk. Lillian immediately got busy.
At three o'clock, Eric sent Lillian a message on Telegram, telling her it was time to clock out.
Lillian checked the time, surprised that it was already time to leave. She had to pick up Lucas, so she quickly tidied her desk and headed out.
The new housekeeper at home was indeed Alice. Alice appeared to be in her forties, quite beautiful, and Lucas liked her too. Alice was in charge of household matters, and that meant Lillian only needed to focus on Lucas's education. She sent a video of Lucas's studies to Kevin, taking no chances with carelessness.
Lillian and Lucas lived a very routine life. Three days later, the weekend arrived.
Lillian and Lucas slept in. Alice had prepared breakfast but didn't wake them, letting them rise naturally.
While having breakfast, Doris dropped by.
"Lillian, I came to see how you both are doing. With Alexander away, there's no one to watch over you. You must be really enjoying yourselves, huh?" she remarked.
Lillian couldn't hide her smile but tried to sound nonchalant: "It's not much different from usual, just one less person around."
"It's so early and you haven't eaten, have you? Come join us for breakfast," Lillian offered.
"I ate on the way over. What are you doing today? Let's go shopping," Doris suggested.
"Shopping huh..." Lillian hesitated, "Well, Lucas doesn't have school today, but he has homework to do, and I need to send a video to Mr. Sinclair."
"Doesn't it amount to the same thing in the evening?" Doris said assertively. "You've been busy all week and you need to really relax."
"Actually, I was thinking of visiting Quentin today."
"I want to go too!" Lucas said grumpily to Doris. "You have to take me with you!"
"Whether we take you or not, I'll have the final say!" Doris said haughtily. "Someone might want to go to the amusement park today, but that will depend on how well he behaves."
"Hmph!" Lucas snorted with pride, and the next second, he kissed Doris's cheek, which she had tilted up slightly.
"That's more like it!" Doris revealed a victorious smile.
Lillian spoke up, "Okay, let's plan our day like this. We'll visit Quentin at the hospital first, then head to the mall, have a great meal, and end the evening with a movie. How does that sound?"
"Awesome!"
Everyone, adults and kids alike, loved the itinerary Lillian had put together.
Lillian first went to the hospital to see Quentin. Kelly was delighted to see Lillian with Lucas. Kelly inquired about the family back home and mentioned how staying in the hospital was stress-free and she wasn't tired at all. Lillian was reassured by this. After chatting for about twenty minutes more, Lillian and Lucas left the hospital.
"Doris, can we go to the amusement park now?" Lucas asked woefully.
Doris started the car and said, "When we're at the recreation area, you play nicely on your own while Lillian and I shop at the mall, okay?"
"Yes!" Lucas shouted with serious enthusiasm, nearly saluting Doris.
