Chapter 275 Alexander, Are You Still Mad at Me?
Lillian laughed and pointed to her swollen belly, teasingly saying, "I'm pregnant, what plans could I have? Let's celebrate the birthday at home and just invite Angela and Wendy over and keep me company."
"But this way, I feel like I'm wronging you," Alexander said. "This is the first birthday we are celebrating together."
"It's also the first birthday for our family of four, so I don't feel wronged at all." Lillian took advantage of the red light, leaned over, and kissed his cheek gently. "Thank you, honey."
Alexander looked at her with a smile in his eyes. "How about we go stay at the seaside villa for a few days and celebrate your birthday there?"
"Sure, Lucas mentioned to me a couple of days ago that he wants to go there. Once his after-school classes are done this week, let's go stay there." Lillian's eyes squinted with joy as she hooked her arm around his and leaned her head on his shoulder, acting coquettishly.
Although Alexander didn't have any surprises for Lillian's birthday, he couldn't skip the gift. He wanted to give her a diamond ring. When they got married, he had prepared nothing for Lillian, so he always felt he owed her something.
That day, he didn't have any social engagements that afternoon, so he drove alone to a high-end jewelry store. At the jewelry counter, he carefully selected but didn't find anything he particularly liked.
As he was casually browsing, Leah called him.
"Alexander, are you on your lunch break? Do you have time now?" Leah asked sweetly over the phone.
Alexander said, "I don't have time to have lunch with you today. Find someone else."
"No, it's something else," Leah hesitated for a moment and then slowly said, "I want to buy some jewelry for myself. But I've almost spent all my money recently. Can you lend me some?"
Alexander laughed, "Do you want to buy jewelry too? Which store are you at?"
"Harmony Jewelry," Leah asked excitedly, "Are you coming over?"
"Wait for me there," Alexander hung up the phone.
Behind the jewelry counter, Shae, with white gloves on, gracefully took out a velvet tray and smiled warmly at Leah, "Leah, take a look at these. They're all the latest styles."
Leah picked a diamond ring that caught her eye, put it on her finger, and looked at it carefully, exclaiming with admiration., "This one is beautiful too."
"Have you decided which one you want?" Shae asked.
Leah hesitated, "I'll wait for Alexander to come and help me decide. It mainly depends on what price range Alexander is willing to buy for me."
"He cares about you so much, of course, he'll buy whichever one you like."
Leah pouted, "Shae, Alexander isn't endlessly good to me. I think he treats Lillian much better than me now. He's always been cold and distant, not particularly close to me or Bernice. Sometimes, I'm quite afraid of him. Every time I ask him for money, I have to mentally prepare myself."
Shae laughed, "Really? I notice that every time Alexander is with you, he treats you very well."
"You're wrong. He used to care about Amy, and now he cares about Lillian. He doesn't care about me," Leah said self-deprecatingly, then looked at the time. "Alexander should be here soon. I'll go check at the door."
Just as she finished speaking, she glanced at the door and saw Alexander walking in. She waved, "Alexander, over here."
Alexander hadn't realized "Harmony Jewelry" was Beatrice's store, he hadn't paid attention to the store's name before.
He walked to the counter, sat on a high stool, and asked, "Do you want to buy a diamond ring?"
"Alexander, look at this one, this one, and this one. Which one do you think is the prettiest?" Leah asked excitedly.
Alexander glanced at them, "They're all quite average.. Pick the one you like."
Shae stood there, feeling ignored by him. She introduced one of the rings to Alexander, saying softly, "Mr. Sinclair, I think this one suits Leah quite well. What do you think?"
Alexander looked at the ring she was holding for a few seconds without saying anything.
"There's also this one, not too expensive, but very beautiful," she introduced another ring.
Alexander still didn't respond, just looked at it expressionlessly.
Suddenly, Leah received a call from someone and excitedly ran to the side to answer it.
Shae looked at Alexander, thought for a moment, and cautiously asked, "Alexander, are you still mad at me?"
Alexander looked down at the various pieces of jewelry on the counter and said, "Let's not talk about the past."
Shae nodded obediently, "Actually, I don't want to bring up the past either. I was immature and stubborn before, and I hurt you."
Alexander said, "I wasn't hurt. It's good that you can settle down."
Shae lowered her eyes and said softly, "Alexander, I've been thinking a lot lately. I accept that you don't like me. I'll never be as good as Amy and will never earn your love because I'm not good enough."
"There will be someone who will love you. Just keep striving and try to live well," Alexander said, looking at the diamond rings. "Pack up these three. I'll go pay."
Shae was stunned for a moment, then smiled, "Leah will be very happy."
As she wrote the receipt, she said, "Paula asked me to go to her house the other day to sort out some of Amy's things. I found a lot of plane and train tickets, and postcards, probably from your trips abroad. I brought them back. I'll bring them to your office on my day off."
Alexander thought for a moment and said, "There's no need to trouble yourself, I'll ask Kevin to pick them up."
"That works too," Shae handed him the receipt and asked with a smile, "Alexander, we're still friends, right?"
Alexander looked at her face, which resembled Amy's, and thought of their childhood days together. With so many years of friendship, he couldn't refuse her, but he wouldn't get any closer either. He responded indifferently.
"Thank you, Alexander," Shae said sincerely.
After paying, Alexander saw that Leah was still on the phone, so he left without waiting.
Shae walked him out of the store and watched him leave.
"Alexander, I must be with you," she said with a determined and somewhat ruthless look as if making a vow.
A week later, after Lucas finished all his classes, they packed up and went to the beachfront villa. Lillian didn't bring Kelly and Melvin, preferring that they take some time to rest at home during this time, and only brought Gina.
The summer breeze carried the scent of flowers. Lucas and Lillian were especially happy, singing songs in the car. Alexander, sitting next to them, couldn't focus on work, his eyes full of affection as he looked at the people he loved most.
